Acclaimed French DJ, producer and electronic music stalwart OXIA continues the roll-out of his much-anticipated new album Aelle with the release of Silk & Fur – the third single to be revealed ahead of the LP’s arrival in October. Following the warmly received Presence and the euphoric Colors of Life, this latest oﬀering sees OXIA reconnect with long-time friend and collaborator Yannick Baudino, alongside an evocative vocal performance from fellow Grenoble-based artist Hacène.

Co-produced with Baudino – with whom OXIA has previously released material on esteemed labels such as All Day I Dream, Saved and Gruuv – Silk & Fur is a finely crafted, slow-burning journey through rich melodic textures and hypnotic grooves. Making his debut under this name, Hacène’s emotive vocal weaves eﬀortlessly through the track’s intricate layers, adding depth to its refined, atmospheric sound.

Where Presence established an energy that was both introspective and danceable, and Colors of Life expanded the sonic horizon with luminous optimism, Silk & Fur introduces a mood that is at once sensual and contemplative – blending warm melodies with subtle dub-infused rhythms and a deep, rolling bassline that anchors the track’s hypnotic flow. It’s a piece that flows with elegance and complexity, equally at home in moments of quiet listening or on a dimly lit dancefloor.

As the release of Aelle draws closer, Silk & Fur serves as another testament to OXIA’s mastery in fusing emotional resonance with club-ready sophistication. With over two decades at the forefront of electronic music – from iconic releases on Bedrock and Knee Deep In Sound to remixes for Moby, Agoria, and John Digweed – OXIA continues to push his artistry into new territory, reaﬃrming his enduring influence on the global scene.

Oxia, Yannick Baudino feat. Hacène - Silk & Fur [Diversions]

Belgian pair GoldFFinch are releasing a brand new 12" at the start of December on FUSE Music, which is a new label set up by noted Brussels Techno instituation Fuse (the nightclub has been in operation for over two decades now, one of the longest running in Europe). Previously, the imprint released their first 12" by Psyk and now they are following it up with homegrown talent. The record comes at the end of a big year for GoldFFinch, which saw releases on the likes of Souvenir, Valence, Get Physical and Turbo Recordings. Today, you can enjoy a taste of 'Nova', the lead from the new release, only on When We Dip.

Fledgling label @envelope-audio are only two releases deep yet already seem to be working on an interesting conceit. The double header isn't a brand new concept by any stretch, with this release seeing fellow compatriots Omar Santis and the ever reliable veteran Håkan Lidbo on the billing.

Nathan Jonson returns for his second outing on 20/20 Vision with ‘Business’ featuring an outstanding remix from Mathew Jonson. 

The Jonson brothers have been synonymous with cutting edge electronic music ever since their arrival in the scene in the early 2000s, both heavily contributing to the renowned Canadian labels 'It Is What It Is’ and ‘Wagon Repair’. Nathan is the man behind HRDVSION, and represented on imprints with a solid catalogue of genre spanning releases. Nathan has performed worldwide as HRDVSION, it’s definitely worth checking out his Boiler Room session and Zur Wilden Renate set from the capital of club culture, Berlin. 

For his recent output Nathan has returned to his family name to produce new releases including last years excellent ‘Cross Colours’ with Luke Vibert on remix duties. Here he unleashes the strongest track in his current style ‘Business', a very fresh slice of edgy electro funk served up with analogue squelch and tight drum programming. But don’t miss out on ‘Let Your Body’ which is a top class dance floor secret weapon to drop peak time.  

Mathew Jonson steps up next with his remix of ‘Business’ which is a glorious long workout of the main theme, recorded with all the finesse we’ve come to expect. It sounds like classic 20/20 Vision brought right up to date with Detroit strings and warm pads layered over intricate keyboard sequences in a live style arrangement. Rewind to 88/89: the heady haze of two culture-accelerating summers commence and music, youth culture, fashion, and society are changed forever. All change: A paradigm shifting gift from our original dancefloor forefathers, a new fire of unity, musical togetherness and sense of creative adventure was lit. And it’s our duty – whether you’re old enough to have been there at the start, or joined the movement at any point in between – to keep those fires burning.

Fast forward to 2018: Silicone Soul’s Darkroom Dubs take the torch and tend the flames in their own unique way with this timely seasonal dispatch. Building on the foundations dug 30 years ago, ‘Darkroom Dubs Presents Summer Love’ eschews any sense of nostalgia in favour of a celebration of the original principals that have shaken club walls ever since. And it does so with a spirited sense of unity as five firm label friends return bearing timeless gems that are fine-tuned to complement any summer selection scenario from 88 to 2048...

Long-time label brothers-in-arms, Of Norway light the embers with the poetically titled, ‘She Never Lost A Passenger’. Unrelenting kicks, slinky filtered bass, a powerful one-word vocal, subtle rolling breaks and a sudden drop into a classic M1 hook all wrapped up in a Balearic bundle of bliss; it’s the perfect start to a unifying storm.

Freska follows with another farsighted slice of freedom. ‘R.U.N’ continues the rich vein of Darkroom Dubs form he’s been building for over six years with a shimmering piano riff, hip-slinking conga hypnosis and all manner of trippy textures. Meanwhile, more psychedelic wonders can be found in ‘Infinite Interchange’, courtesy of seasoned summer lover Justin Robertson. Denting the Deadstock 33s dials for an ageless 808-melting acid house workout, it’s a sweet taste of what’s to come as the label prepares for his forthcoming vinyl release, ‘Music Is Madness (To Those Who Cannot Hear It)’ due at the end of August.

Skinnerbox are also on tease duty as they set us up for their own forthcoming Darkroom Dubs release, ‘Music For The Sad & Rainy Open Air’ that’s due in late July. Embodying the Balearic spirit with birdsong and Kenyan chorus, ‘Nyeusi’ squeezes their soul machines with class, subversion and a spirit that would sit just as well in a field off the M25 30 years ago or Ushuaïa today.

Finally, we’re whisked away in a fog of Argentinian cosmicity as venerable Buenos Aires selector Mariano Mellino allures us into a deep, extensive progressive trip. Introversion levels set to stun, ‘A Little Cloud Walker’ reminds us of the fine art of restraint, patience and guaranteed higher levels.

Authentic not nostalgic; ‘Darkroom Dubs Presents Summer Love’ celebrates our shared dancefloor inheritance. A bottomless melting pot, a sense of adventure, a love for the unknown and, most importantly, a feeling that everyone around you understands that too. Feel rooted, move forward together... We need to keep these fires burning.

Culprit’s August release is an all-American package that continues the label’s groove-laden, classic House-influenced theme for the summer season. “Laura Palmer Was Here” is the much-welcomed return of Culprit’s most steady contributor throughout the years – Chris Manik aka MANIK - for whom this is the sixth (!) EP on the label.

On the remix duties is another New Yorker – The Juan Maclean - who has been one of the artistic cornerstones of the famed DFA label for a decade and a half and has been gracing the likes of Classic, No. 19 and Rebirth with his music lately. His remix of “Basement” toughens things up a bit, while keeping the essential feel-good factor of the original.
