This eighth foray into the otherworld is helmed by another resident of the UK’s North - Sheffield based Meridian.r. Curator of the excellent Cycle podcast - formally an event series bringing some top tier deep techno talent to an intimate warehouse in the Steel City - it is currently a series of mixes that shines a light on the northern adjacent left-field electronics scene.

No stranger to helming the decks himself, having been pushing the deep grooves at the likes of the iconic Groundwork and Magnetic North as well as his own events, we had the fine selections of Meridian.r on showcase at one of our recent monthly gatherings - wandering through a delightful garden of sounds that fit very well with our own tastes here at Portal.

Another entry into the series composed entirely on a pair of 1210s, Meridian.r’s mix weaves from the depths of ambient oceans through dub techno infused breaks and chuggers, the energy building tacitly until equilibrium is found in a heady concoction of hypnotic techno that rides the interplay between drive and groove in style. See you on the other side.

Exhibiting an intelligent mix of sweet melodies and powerfull rhythms, this hybrid structure contains some weird and special instruments such as binaural guitars, ambiguous asmr, silly pokemons, retro synthesizers and non-flying UFO... Straight out of Bristol (UK) Fred Rowell (Gurtrude) is completely obsessive compulsive about everything dark progressive and psy techno. Having first been introduced to the genre through the likes of Grouch, Sensient and Hypogeo he quickly found this was the sound for him. He started to DJ this music in 2015 and from there he has become a firm favourite with many of the UK's psy promoters. Being a keen traveler he's started bringing this sound with him to parties around the world, sometimes playing alongside some of the acts that first inspired him.  

Having co organised the first Zenon Records label party in Goa and also organising dark progressive events in the UK his mission of promoting the sound has never changed. Also being heavily involved in the organisation of Triplicity festival he is firmly entrenched in the UK psychedelic music scene.

His sets are often a blend of dark progressive and psy techno mixed together over a multi channel setup while constantly aiming to present the music in a different way. This keeps it exciting and unexpected even for the most seasoned fan.

Originally from Alsace, MATT-E has been immersed in German club and rave culture since his teens, and with this inspiration he has built up an electronic universe behind the decks, from deep house to incisive techno and drum n' bass.
From 2021 to 2023 he had his monthly show "Techno Force" 100% vinyl 100% Techno on Jim's Prophecy Radio. He played in clubs, bars, private and underground parties, always cultivating this underground spirit.
