3 QUESTIONS to GROJ:

Q: Talking about your roots. A lot of german Synthi-Pop/New Wave tracks are inside your mix. How did you get in touch with this kind of music and how would you describe your roots?

A: Thanks for having me on this project, great concept and I loved to work on it. These are big names in my family - Kosmische Musik was always around the house and readily inculcated to anyone flipping through album covers in the living room. But children rarely like the music their parents listen to and why would these names stand out from all of the musical action of the 70-80 and 90s? My attachment is conceptual. I think German Rock had it's own mission and a different vision than what was happening at the time elsewhere. It isn’t too pushy or too snob and still very elegant and refined. The music is grounded in a feeling of home and belonging, of being back at the castle. At the same time it is very transporting, rhythmic subtleties and repetition is central to it. I learnt a lot about making techno from these guys and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

Q: You´re from Grenoble, living now in Montreal/Canada (is that right?). How would you describe your development in electronic music between Europe and North America?

A: That is correct. I go back and forth a lot. I love Montreal and where I come from in France. I think both continents feed off each other. While there has always been some strong artistic rivalries and misunderstandings in the past, I think both schools hold a lot of admiration for one another. Being in Montreal is great because there is a flow from both sides and you don’t need to pick a side. I think this comes through in my music as well - I try to be free-spirited, raw and open to serendipity like a North-American, and at the same time I see the value in not pissing on everything that has been done before, in preserving heritage and order like a good European artist. So the course of my development as an artist in a sense is also to unite and re-concile these two worlds.

Q: Which future Groj projects are on the way?

A: At the moment I’m working on an album, which is something I haven’t done for several years now. It is both a great and terrifying feeling. There will soon be a single release on microCastle which is a club cover I made of Transmission by Joy Division. A new EP on fryhide is coming soon as well.

Do it with passion and always take care, that you don't confound your students with the ravers of the weekend and never confound a white board with your dj-setup. The key to sucess is always to seperate your schedule and be happy with who and what you love.

After starting out as a DJ in Leeds, UK, @tina-v has played in clubs, festivals and underground parties. She soon got into production, and has had a string of releases on labels like Night Light Records, Stick, In’deep’n’dance, Dynamo, Definitive, and many more. Gaining support from many of the big players in the scene, Tina’s music has made it onto the BBC Radio 1 Essential mix, and been charted and played by DJs like Richie Hawtin and Bart Skils.

Her groovy take on techno has brought her all around Europe, with gigs in cities like London, Barcelona and Berlin. Besides playing in top clubs in Scandinavia such as The Villa, Jaeger and Culture Box, she currently runs the night “Kinetics” - booking both local and international DJs with her partner Plain Jane.

Er war Mitveranstalter der legendären EASTSIDE Partys (1993-2001) und leitete von 2003 bis 2006 den kleinen, sehr feinen Club Molendyk. Im Jahr 2003 gewann er völlig verdient den MDR Sputnik Turntable Days DJ Contest vor 49 weiteren DJ´s. Er beherrscht es wie kaum ein Zweiter, immer das gewisse Etwas in seine Sets einzubauen. Am brillanten Mixing und der Track-Auswahl erkennt man, dass da 30 Jahre Erfahrung hinter den Decks stehen. After a break of almost 7 years, Micha actively took to the decks again in 2017. In the 90s, the veteran of the Leipzig techno scene, “Ditte”, made a name for himself not only in Germany. He was co-organizer of the legendary EASTSIDE parties (1993-2001) and ran the small, very fine club Molendyk from 2003 to 2006. In 2003 he deservedly won the MDR Sputnik Turntable Days DJ Contest ahead of 49 other DJs. He knows how to always incorporate that certain something into his sets like no other. The brilliant mixing and track selection shows that there are 30 years of experience behind the decks. He makes music with the heart for the hearts and souls, which he captures with his “age-appropriate techno”.
