Born and raised in LA on KDAY, The Beat, and Funkmosphere, The Alaia is attracted to music that has a feeling of perpetual summer and heat: soulful boogie funk, sexy disco, smooth g-funk, hard gangsta rap. She aspires to play music to make you bounce, to get you off your ass, to makes you want to cry, to make you wanna go home with a stranger, to makes you feel tuff enough to catch an attitude. 

Always discovering and rediscovering, she collects and selects vinyl and cassettes mostly, with some CDs here and there. She’s graced the Dublab and NTS airwaves, contributed a guest mix on Dash Radio, holds down a casual monthly residency on local online radio station VPN Radio, and has contributed guest dj mixes to an array of music selector series’ worldwide.

Volume 7 of our ongoing Luv N’Haight Edit Series is our first on a 7 inch and features heavyweight digger, edit-master and producer Kon with his take on Twilight’s Modern Soul and Boogie classic “You’re In Love”. He stays true to the original but packs a bit more punch into the groove while keeping the focus on the catchy vocals and chorus on the A-side, and doing it Dub-style with minimal vocals and plenty of echo on the flip.

He pro actively does this whilst gathering insight directly from the artists and shares behind the scenes information related to the release. On the show, Aswad and Mr Big happy talk about why it’s important to him, and what drives his passion for collecting and sharing these relics of great music. Together they recorded nearly 2 hours of conversation — so let’s just say it’s been a long time coming for them to have a good chat. Bio:  Well, first off "Randy Watson" is not my real name....this alias comes from one of Eddie Murphy's characters in "Coming to America." All my fellow children of the '80s probably already picked up on that....and if you don't know, check out the movie-- it's a classic!

I got my start in 2006 when Dam-Funk gave me the opportunity to be part of his weekly residency (along with Laroj, Billy Goods, Matt Respect & Eddy Funkster). We held down a weekly residency in L.A. called Funkmosphere for 11 years-- nothin' but top-shelf '80s funk/boogie and modern soul. If you ever rolled through one of these parties between 2006 and 2017, you'll know what I'm talking about!

These days, I'm one half of MIDNITE DISCO-- spinnin' at various spots in L.A. with the homie Kung-Fu Chris (Computa Games, Close Corners). The concept of “MidNite Disco” is a throwback to the late 70s and early 80’s music scene, where dancing would bring people together from all walks of life to express themselves in a shared celebration of life.
