DRAGONFLY - TUMBLEWEED HOUSE & PRAIRIE BLUES

The Kootenay Yoga Festival was held on the unceded, traditional and ancestral territory of the Sinixt people in September, 2022. It was a beautiful gathering that brought together a diversity of local talent and skill for 2 days of learning and growing. It was an honour to be part of the festival and contribute in various ways. I played two sets over the weekend. One was an ecstatic dance and the other was an impromptu yoga class with my dear friend Shideh. This is the recording of the yoga set, which ended up being one of my favourite sets I played all summer. I rarely get to play all the slow and sultry music I love, let alone get to play it out as their makers intended. I loved playing Shideh's yoga class because of the laughter, playfulness, and non-judgment that she consistently invites into whatever space she holds. I also knew that she would be into the music I would play for her, so that made this experience that much more special. Thank you Shideh for inviting me to play for your class. <3

Never Stop Dancing is a mix series focused on amplifying house, disco, and techno. Through the mix series I aim to highlight the creative  expressions of the talented up and coming as well as established DJs and producers in the Kootenays and the surrounding areas of BC. The mix series is dedicated to the four to the floor lovers who may often find themselves the first or last two-steppin' on the dance floor. To those who find that movement is an essential expression of life, love, and joy. To those who find that connecting with others through movement is a process of liberation and a building block of our community. To those who get moved by the music, a language that we speak that emanates from the depths in our hearts and souls. Sunny Acres is musician, producer and Dj, Chris Francis. From an eclectic mix of wonderfully crafted original rhythms, basslines and melodies to great tracks from around the world, Sunny Acres weaves a sonic fabric of acoustic and electronic music. He is a local Kootenay producer and DJ, all-around stand-up guy, most humble DJ, and my brother from another mother. I don't remember when I first met Chris, but I know his distinctive style of deep and chugging house is what drew me to him. Since knowing him, I've had the pleasure of having him play at my events and we've danced many nights away. Keep your eyes on his Soundcloud as he'll be releasing his first LP this spring. This mix is a colourful tapestry of tasteful selections thoughtfully weaved together. I appreciate the deep basslines and heartfelt vocals that pull me into the story he tells. With change in the air and much anticipated wellness on the way it seemed like the right time to create a memento of this recent chapter of life... 

The music woven together in this homebrew is quite sentimental, the exact medicine I never knew I needed until it landed in my body at the right time and interestingly the right pace with most being a similar tempo and tone. 

Each of the tracks were recognised from within as a remedy long before I came to understand their meaning or relevance let alone marinade in their melodies. 

It is only now when I listen back that I come to appreciate the inner intelligence at work here and in turn start to rebuild some trust in my body and it’s ability to heal.

My 12th year performing at Priceless was the most fun I've had yet. Thank you to all of the planners, volunteers, and attendees that make Priceless happen. Deep gratitude to the musicians who made the music in this set, especially previous Priceless guests El Búho (@el-buho), David Last (@davidlast), and Rumpistol (@rumpistol). 

Special shout out to my forever inspirations for Forest vibes - Ganucheau (@ganucheau) and Dr. Toast (@drtoast). It still feels like everything I do with music is trying to do for others what they have done for me.

Setting the tone for the day ahead at the Boombox Stage on Sunday at Earth Frequency Festival was an absolute deeeeelight!

Morning Mojo, a much anticipated maiden voyage collaboration for The Shady Lady and Blossom Medusa merging their shared love and devotion to Meditation, Yoga, Music, Dance and Tea giving the people what they so desperately need by day three...a cuppa, a spangle informed stretch sesh and a thoughtfully designed soundscape to ease everyone into their day.

We were also so so spoilt on the day to have Cecilia Caleandro join us for the last portion of the set winding everything down to an eventual Sivasana Serenade with ethereal vocals, harp and flute leaving us all in the floatiest of moods. Alas this was not captured and stored as a recording on the day but the memory will stay with all who were there to behold.

The first and last chunk of this set is best enjoyed taking it easy in a cosy, comfortable position with soft or even closed eyes if that’s something that feels good for you then allow the music to be the guide. The pace rises and falls again with many worthwhile messages to be absorbed throughout and a Hare Krishna/Coolio remix you probably didn't know you needed!

Mainly played at private parties, low pressure gigs in the early career preferring slow house. Since then always interested in the music of her geography and the rich music culture of ethnic and spiritual sounds. 

Re#Sister takes us on a multicultural journey through east ritual's sounds including rich Anatolian tunes, Organic - Melodic -  Ethnic - Deep House & Progressive Ethno Electronic from all around the world.
