Being a young "Music Head" growing up in Detroit in the 1980's, my favorite DJ like so many of my peers was The Electrifying Mojo aka "Mojo." I always credit Mojo for my love for so many different types of music: From The B52's to Eddie Grant, from Genesis to Parliament Funkadelic just to name a few.  But Mojo's biggest flex back then was not only breaking Prince but playing the B-sides and all of the Prince tunes that radio stations weren't and didn't have the freedom to play. Mojo might play an entire side of the "Dirty Mind" album and then run it right back. (LOL) Mojo was just different. That being said, I became a huge Prince fan and whenever the purple one was in town, which was quite often in the beginning, me and my crew were always front and center... This Set is just a homage to one of my all time favorite musical artists. Definitely one of the G.O.A.T's. Enjoy...

If you have listen to some of my mixes over the years, you have probably heard me playing an Anita Baker remix here and there. I absolutely love her sultry voice and her being from my hometown of Detroit sure doesn't hurt either. I have been a fan of hers since hearing her early stuff with her band "Chapter 8" way back in 1979. The other day I was flipping through some old vinyl records and found her masterpiece "Rapture" and just couldn't stop playing it. It brought back so many good memories! So you know me, I wanted to put my 4am touch on "Mystery" and try to get this amazing song played on somebody's mellowed out Dance Floor! (Enjoy)

I was staying down on South Beach (Miami) during "THME" weekend a couple of weeks ago and woke up that Saturday at the crack of dawn like I always do. I decided to go for an early morning walk on the beach and I snapped this incredible view of the sunrise. (I don't care what we might have going on in our lives, God always has a way of showing up and showing out with some Amazing wonders). Immediately I thought about a mix I did way back in 2012. I looked for it on YouTube and I don't think I was posting on here yet? Definitely not on the regular. I looked on Soundcloud and it was my first ever mix on that platform. I specifically wanted to hear "Cascades of Colour" by Ananda Project on my walk. (Woo, what a mood shifter) I was just going to post the original 'Sunrise' but I said Hey: "A new Sunrise deserves a new batch of tunes!" Except for "Cascades of Colour" I had to throw that one back on here just to set the table... Enjoy!!!  \o/

I mean what more can you say about the amazing Chaka Khan that hasn't already been said. Chaka has one of the strongest singing voices ever in my opinion and I always love her style. In 1980 (The year I first fell in love with Dance Music) Chaka Khan released her now classic album "Naughty." And what an album it has become. Her song "Papillon" is still one of my all time fav's from her, but its this Ashford & Simpson gem that gets me every single time I hear it. Straight Fire! Besides Chaka's incredible energy on this song, the drums played by Steve Ferrone totally stood out to me. I didn't want to add too many extra sounds because I really wanted Steve's drums to stand out even more. I really hope you guys enjoy this Chaka Khan reboot and play it loud and often in 2023... Let's Dance!!!

Yasiin Bey formally known as Mos Def released this amazing song "Umi Says" almost 25 years ago on his debut album Black on Both Sides. This song is still so very smooth and it creates such an incredible vibe every time its played, as well as having such a positive meaning. It's still an all time personal favorite of mine. Hopefully we will hear this "Sage" version bumping on somebody's dance floor sooner than later... Enjoy!!!

I probably never told you guys how much of a "Museum Junkie" I am. I absolutely love venturing down to different Museums and smaller Art Galleries around town and of course when I'm somewhere visiting. This set was totally inspired by my latest visits to the High Museum in Atlanta and The Pérez Art Museum right here in Miami where I snapped this photo of Glenn Ligon's artistic "Notes of a Poem on The Third World" (Electric Hands). It seems whenever I'm viewing the exhibits I always "hear" certain songs or beats that I would love to pair with those particular pieces of art. This mix features a few of those tunes that just immediately popped into my head: "Jazz Funk Freedom" by Ron Trent, "Coltrane" by Marc Tilley and "Track 9" by Atjazz were some. By 1985 I was very familiar with the brilliant singer, songwriter, composer Mr. Luther Vandross and he slowly but surely, song by song simply turning into "Luther!" (One Name) This beautiful song was released on his second solo album "Forever, For Always, For Love" in 1982 but I always paired his voice in my mind to the dance floor. maybe it was his early songs "Searching" and "The Glow of Love" with the group Change (1980). Never the less Luther was here to stay... Enjoy!!!

Musical Bliss

Masters at Work have performed many nine hour sets at Soul Heaven and this cd by Little Louis Vega is an accurate reflection of those nights.

The first cd which is titled 'London' has a predominant focus towards vocal tracks and is highly melodic. It is a 74 minute house feast featuring 5 out of 5 stars for the best ever use of Accapela's, not to mention superb mixing and track selection.

The second cd is titled 'Ibiza' and has fewer vocal tracks than the 'London' cd. It has a distinct Afro-Latin vibe and is heavily percussion based. Including an awesome remix of 'Elle' by DJ Gregory which was one of the most popular house tracks of that year, it's a 79 minute mix that will be appreciated by fans of Deep, Afro-Latin influenced house.

The first suSU comp to hit the ground is without doubt, one of the very best. This cd comes highly recommended. Heaven – we say true class

ON MY WAY TO HARLEM (UMOJA EDIT 4)

It was 1980 in Detroit Michigan where I first fell in Love with this Music. I was 13 years old and the Music of Choice for Me and my Friends was Progressive Dance Music. We didn't know it at the time but We were actually creating a Musical Lifestyle of sorts that would follow many of us the rest of our lives.

Sure there would be periods when no music was bought and no new mixes were produced, but time would go by and before you knew it This Music Thing would just Grab hold to Me again...

In 2012 My Musical Journey started again! This dance music would prompt me to start mixing on the web via my YouTube Channel with over 45K followers, and Soundcloud with over 5K and counting... This music would even take me around the U.S and as far away as Beijing China to DJ (Twice). I'm  really excited now more than ever because I am are currently living in Miami and DJing at my residency at N'Namdi Contemporary Gallery.
