This was my closing set at Nowadays on October 13 with Yumi and Call Super. I believe this mix represents the direction I'm headed as an artist, and furthermore is perhaps the best set I've played thus far in my career, in my own opinion. Huge thanks to DJ Voices for selecting me to close out her residency night with two of my favorite DJs. It was an absolute dream.

Grey Spring is a collection of previously unreleased compositions that have been reworked for basic_sounds. Shying away from the more recent dancefloor material he’s known for, these compositions explore Nordic Soul’s love of hip hop, dub and ambient music. Recorded and reworked during the extended winter and spring months in the Pacific Northwest, “Grey Spring” is a somber and introspective soundtrack that should resonate well with fans of Boards of Canada, Ulrich Schnauss and Lusine.

DJ Stephen R. is a Los Angeles-based DJ and music producer. He’s the founder of Architects and Heroes, a record label and digital content provider. He is the founder of the Hot Flash Party. He has releases on Under the Radar Records, Alectric Records, Sounds Are Active, and Architects and Heroes. He is the founder of The “Under the Radar” music and video events in San Francisco, and has performed with some of underground music’s most well-known names, including Kool Keith, Jeff Parker of Tortoise, Peaches, Kid606, Richard Devine and Gold Chains. Stephen R. is also the founding member of the left-of-center instrumental band The Summer of Flux.
