From memory i did this one on 2 x Technics 1200's, a dodgy 2 channel mixer, crap amp and recorded it to Soundforge on a Celeron laptop. I still own all these tracks on good old vinyl to this day. (I have remastered this mix).

Well where do i start ? Commonly known as “The Godfather of Breaks” Rennie Pilgrem’s contribution to the early Nuskool Breaks scene is outstanding and given this title is often considered responsible for the creation of the Nuskool Breaks genre. Before moving into breaks Rennie produced techno and acid house and was part of the influential rave group Rhythm Section along with Ellis Dee. Rennie is also the boss of Thursday Club Recordings aka TCR a label which he founded in 1993 which was a major force in the Nuskool Breaks scene. Now concentrating more on his talented art skills Rennie has stepped back from the dance scene and continues to produce some great works of art.

This mix is part 1 of a celebratory mix for his label Thursday Club Recordings aka TCR from 2008, enjoy.

Both Ellis D & Rennie Pilgrem have been in the EDM scene since the beginning of time (haha) and both were a part of an act called Rhythm Section along with Richie T & Nick Newton. Rhythm Section were an electronic rave act before Ellis D & Rennie Pilgrem moved onto their own careers as an artist. This mix from 2010 was recorded LIVE at Rough Tempo Radio a place at that time that had guest mixes from top breakbeat acts. The mix itself starts out with some old school breaks sounds as Rhythm Section then moves on to individual mixes from Rennie Pilgrem & Ellis D.

Slyde were a UK DJ/producer duo Robin Twelftree and Jason Laidback both with a well established musical background. The duo started the Slyde project back in 2002 and soon caught the eye of Finger Lickin Records a label which they called home for quite a few years and a place where they released their uniquie sound of Funky Breaks including the well known "Slipperty Slide". Deekline is that rare figure in dance music, the seminal producer who balances the cutting edge and the mainstream with effortless flair. Head of the London to Brighton-spanning Hot Cakes collective of producers, promoters and DJs, this bass music icon recently released new album Bounce 'n' Shake with studio partner in crime Ed Solo, an eclectic tour de force sent down with the kind of assurance one might expect from DJs who have sent bodies flying round the room at club venues across the globe for more than a decade.

A hero of the underground from the days of his Platinum-selling UK garage anthem I Don't Smoke Da Reefer, Deekline oversees a range of Hot Cakes imprints (Hot Cakes, Sludge, Jungle Cakes and the legendary Rat Records) all of which work tirelessly to propel street level artists into the forefront of the electronic music scene.

On a live tip, the Hot Cakes parties have achieved the rare feat of blowing up clubs on both sides of the Atlantic, in Miami, Spain and London, where his flagship night sits pretty at the heart of Brixton at iconic underground nightclub Jamm. He's also known to put on a rump-shaking boat party or two on the river Thames.

In the studio, Deekline is a bonafide musical shapeshifter, his impressive diversity having seen him rework the likes of Armand Van Helden, Old Dirty Bastard and The Prodigy. He is currently remixing the new Laidback Luke new single and earlier in 2013 his 2-step-flavoured reworking of Lethal Bizzle & Donae'o's Not A Saint anthem proved he's still in touch with his UK garage roots at a time when the sound has never been hotter.
Fittingly for a producer whose Hot Cakes brand has become a byword for bassbin-shaking bravado, this is one artist who's cooking up a storm right now.

Advent Day 11: Digital Gangsters - Acid Elements Mix (acid / breaks mashup)

Steve Thorpe started mixing tunes at home when he was 18 and first started DJingin Manchesters bars and clubs in 1996. Playing an eclectic mix of broken beats. In 1997, Steve joined Manchester clubnight - Tangled and turned the upstairs chillout room of a house and trance night into the longest running breakbeat night in the UK...if not the world - Tangled Breaks. Running weekly, then twice monthly and then quarterly for over 15 years and then returning 3 times a year until it ended on Tangleds 21st Birthday in 2014. Steve has warmed up and played alongside all the best breaks DJs and producers in the UK. After Tangled stopped regular events in 2008 he started his own night - Carry On which after 14 months then changed into Lowdown and Dirty... which now after 6 was voted the best breaks clubnight in Manchester and the world as it has won the 'best small event' at the Breakspoll International awards for 3 years running and Lowdown won the coveted City Life 'best clubnight in Manchester' award for 2014. Lowdown has now come to an end but Steve has been DJing at various events and festivals around the UK and helping out with other clubnights, continuing producing mixes and live streams. Steve will also be bringing Tangled back one the UK is back to normal after Covid for a special one-off party!
