There’s very little information out there on èvia, which is part of their allure. What is known about them is that they’re based in New Zealand, they quietly release music via their Bandcamp subscription service and over the last few months they’ve caught the attention of some of the most respected names in ambient music, from Space Afrika to Special Guest DJ. 

It’s not surprising. The elusive producer may be from New Zealand but their music isn’t conceptually attached to any specific place. Like the videos they post on their YouTube channel, their songs are shrouded in a hazy fog of ambient electronics and amorphous, organic textures, similar in spirit to the nebulous sounds of artists on labels like Motion Ward, Experiences Ltd and sferic.

If you’re unfamiliar with èvia, this mix is a pretty perfect introduction to their world. The tracks suggest “the haziness of a distant memory” and evoke the same dreamlike quality as their music and videos. The recording moves through a heady blend of aquatic burblings, glistening textures and synth blips from the likes of perila, YABUJIN and Pontiac Streator. It also includes two particularly great forthcoming tracks by TIBSLC and èvia themselves.

q. pls introduce yourself

> My name is Gary Hunter. I run a small music website called Low End Theorists and the Theory Therapy mix series, plus co-host a couple of radio shows with Daniel Patrin.

q. is there a story behind the mix? how did it come together?

> I recorded it after a long walk in Sydney. It’s the middle of winter just now but we tend to get really clear crisp days. I moved here about 4 years ago from Scotland and I’ll never take for granted how nice it is to wake up to sun most days. I wanted the mix to provide a snapshot of that feeling. Really calming, almost quasi-religious tracks.

q. what would be the ideal circumstances to enjoy your mix?

> Maybe in one of those floatation tanks. Or as you fall asleep.

q. describe a favourite object in your living room...

> My TV or my old, but still great CDJ-350s.

q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?

> We’re turning Theory Therapy into a label. We’ll be announcing our first release in the next week or so.

Ginger Vag is the production alias of Panagiotopoulou Evagelia, born & raised in Greece in the late 70s. 
Being a passionated music lover in her whole life, she has a large variety of music influence and a music culture in depth.
Addicted to electronic music, she started mixing for the experience & to discover all the emotional intelligence behind a mix. 
Being hard for her to reach an end in this endless love, that's how she started producing and she's finally proceed in her first release 'Teaser' in July of 2014, 
as an independent name-your-price track in BandCamp platform.
Ginger Vag's debut 'Diamonds' EP was out in March of 2015 by Werkstatt Recordings Label, characterized as an eccentric compilation of quality electronica, 
with smooth bass, deep tech, dub and tribal drops, bonded all together in an experimental atmospheric and electrified cloud.

Every podcast compiled & mixed by Ginger Vag has a story to tell. 'Warriors' podcast idea was conceived after a long trip she had in Scandinavia from South to North.
Fjords, glaciers, Baltic Sea & Vikings were her main inspiration to compile a mix to represent mostly artists originating in North.
Her desire was when someone comes to listen to it to be encircled by eternal mountains, unmelted snows & frozen waters.
Apart from the ambience of the selected tracks, she also searched for natural & wild percussions within the tracks that would put listeners in a war mood.
One of the main artists she came across is Swedish Ulf Soderberg, whose unique productions talks about sunken cities, fallen towers, overgrown ruins & forbidden Gods. 
His one of a kind dark eerie soundscapes and ritualistic drums, are combined with his own field recordings from places like Iceland, gloomy Nordic forests & deep forgotten catacombs.
Podcast was mixed in her home studio using Traktor. After that, 'Warriors' intro durated about 10 minutes was built upon the mix with Ableton Live by her brother, sound designer & producer Endov Lane
and finally, the mix had a bit of a mastering process with Sound Forge.

These are her words to every listener :

Quando Claudio mi ha chiesto di scrivere un'introduzione per il suo "Ambient Mix 2" la mia prima reazione è stata quella di farlo desistere da questa sua intenzione. Ho cercato di fargli capire che in fondo non ero la persona adatta a scrivere commenti su di un set da studio.
Però, alla fine, spiegandomi di cosa si trattava e quindi coinvolgendomi su un tema del quale abbiamo avuto modo di confrontarci, ho detto si.
La grande intuizione di Claudio è quella di scegliere lo spazio come luogo dove mettere in scena il suo viaggio: quale luogo migliore dell'infinito per gustarci la sua selezione musicale ispirata all'universo: quarantuno minuti di dischi in vinile originali, cerniti con saggia attenzione per ricordarci quanto spesso si è inseriti in una società senza radici, dove gli individui accettano passivamente il cambiamento per il semplice fatto che è tutto quello che conoscono.
Conoscere e amare quelle che sono le proprie origini, fino a smarrirsi in un'esplorazione impossibile per poi recuperare tutto: forse bisogna perdersi per ritrovarsi, ritrovarsi per perdersi.
Da qui nasce "Ambient Mix 2" di Claudio Fabrianesi: un podcast di cui vado davvero felice, e condividerlo con voi attraverso "Deep Consequences" è il regalo più bello che potessi farmi.

When claudio asked me to write the introduction for his "Ambient Mix 2", my first reaction was trying to talk him out of it. I tried to get him to realize that, I, in fact wasn't the right person to comment on a studio set.
But in the end, after he had explained to me what it was about and had had me taken in by the topic we talked about with a lot of passion, I said yes.
Claudio had a great intuition to make the space the place for his odyssey. And there's nowhere better than infinity to enjoy his musical selection: 41 minutes of original vinyl records, wisely chosen with the aim to make us remember just how much we are immersed in the society with no roots, where people passively accept the change for the mere reason it is the only thing they perceive.
Knowing and loving our very own origins, to the point of losing it in an impossible exploration then to get it all back; maybe it takes getting lost only to find your way, finding your way only to get lost. 
It is how "Ambient Mix 2" was born, a podcast that had made me very happy, and being able to share it with you through "Deep Consequences" is the greatest gift for me.

Repose is an ambient experiment created with the intention of aiding sleep and meditation. The music is meant to replace the space in our mind taken up by thoughts anxiety and worry. 

I calibrated my instrument’s tuning to 432hz, which has indeed given it a different feel. However, I cannot say with scientific or historical confidence that tuning in that way is truly more beneficial to mind body or spirit. I can say that the long-form music contained in this album easily disappears into the background along with the over active mind. 

A field recording from the forest has also been buried within to subtly keep the listener grounded as not to float too far away. 

For those like me who have trouble with sleep or meditation, this album could prove to be a beneficial tool and an artful listening experience for other fans of the genre.

Known primarily for his contributions to the underground dub techno scene as Textural Being or aspect., Parallelism is the name of Portland, OR-area artist Sage Taylor's explorations of ambient sound. Fascinated by texture and drone, it is through this alias that he attempts to capture and extend moments of purity and euphoria hiding behind the bustle of traditional song structure. Using primarily collected samples and sounds captured via field recorder he crafts elegant, intimate and warm soundscapes for the listener to dissolve into and become a part of. Works as Parallelism have been released by labels such as Shimmering Moods Records, Moody Drones, Recycled Plastics and Tehnofonika Records.

We are proud and excited to share this exclusive mix from the Macedonian based duo Private Mountain, Dimitar Dodovski and Toni Dimitrov. A special journey through the beautiful Macedonian ambient music.

Private Mountain is audio and visual project of Dimitar Dodovski (https://soundcloud.com/dimitardodovski) and Toni Dimitrov (https://soundcloud.com/tonidimitrov) releasing their debut album 'Blue Mountain' on UK label Neotantra (curated by Lee Anthony Norris). It is a project about their shared fascination with nature, art, philosophy and discussions about the past and future of ambient music, that resulted with a beautiful introspective album that entered the bandcamp chart of ambient bestsellers and received many great reviews.
The album 'Dark Political Stratum' by Private Mountain is the third release on the Macedonian experimental label Élan Vital Recordings, and second for the duo of Toni Dimitrov and Dimitar Dodovski. The album refers to the global geopolitical changes and turbulence at the beginning of the 21 century. Produced in Macedonia, a center of the global geostrategic clashes of the superpowers, it is a sound statement to these global political shifts, observed through the local prism. Macedonia in the recent years and under the pressure of the neighboring countries and the superpowers, using all methods of the hybrid war, passed through very harsh historical times and major changes, that unfortunately resulted with disintegration of the nation as we know it. 'Dark political stratum' is slightly noisier and experimental release, which development came out as an outtake of the material for the upcoming album 'СТРАТУМИ', coming up as their third release on Silent Season label.

"The week prior to creating this set, I decorated my space and placed my mind inside the powerful and quite honestly life-changing memories I hold of No Way Back; the curiosity, the cavern-like environment, the audio experimentation and boundary crossing evoking responses that vary from wandering honestly and freely inside one's thoughts to the complete obliteration of said thoughts and letting the wisdom of the body perform its work on us.  My intention with this ambient set (all of my sets..) was to create currents, gradually, with just enough whispers and fragments to be subtle guides and invitations for you to imbue the sounds with your own meaning, to add your own messages and experience to the currents.  If there was ever any lesson to myself about how incomplete my work feels without this crucial element, it was the necessity this year to communicate from a distance, via video instead of a real-time space.  And how it felt most complete again when we gathered together virtually in the live stream, being curious, being supportive and present, sharing psychedelic gifs, chatting, laughing and crying!  So there it was - it happened, we connected and transcended the medium.  I will always hold this year's event dear to me for reminding us of what we still have.   Infinite gratitude towards Interdimensional Transmissions and The Bunker New York for being such enablers, to the dedication and brilliance of the artists (and the humbleness in their brilliance) and you!"
