DKAPZ returns with his fourth release ‘4. Rule by Monsters’ meshing together a wide span of genre influences working between deconstructed club, techno IDM, drum n bass and drone, underpinned by propulsive, finely-tuned beat programming. From its track titles that call out the embedded absurdity in our systems of power to heightened production values and levelled up rhythmic intensity (and often, BPM), this is a heated and emotionally charged long player.

‘Another Big Pack of Fucking Lies’ opens the EP with snatches of snare rushes and layers of polyrhythmic drum work, driven by a charged four four beat. ‘The #ADL has Flagged this Track as Antisemitic’ is built on off-kilter smattering of glitched and tripped out beats, driven forward by a booming and haunting bass. ‘Unsubscribe Unsuccessful’ draws the BPMs down into a mechanical grind, with simmering synths and whirring machining waves.

‘Who Will Read the Last Eulogy?’ brings about a pensive moment on the EP, evoking a deep sense of tension and changing the instrumental palette to drones of FM metallics, terrifying subbass, and manipulated soprano saxophones. ‘Accelerated Dissent closes the EP with heady layered broken-beat drums, midway unfurling into a tight breakbeat riff and transforms once more into an ethereal shoegaze feeling to close the LP with a state of possible optimism after working through its demons.

4. Rules By Monsters is dedicated to the people of Palestine and to James Self, a friend of DKAPZ who he lost recently. All proceeds from the release will be split between Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF) and Refuge.

This is an audio essay I put together primarily over the course of 2 days at an artist residency with Kode9 at camp.fr, 04/24. It's a simple juxtaposition of the fear and dread that comes through in various found audio clips on the genocide in Palestine, with the extreme pride expressed in several Israeli weapons manufacturers' promotional videos, set on top of a variety of drone recordings (thank you Discrepant https://soundcloud.com/discrepant/sets/aereal-drone-sounds ) and my piece Who Will Read the Last Eulogy? and ending with the poem Languaging Memory written and read by Leena Aboutaleb (https://poetry.onl/read/leena-a )

"Wicked selection of mad as fuck rhythm and texture. Vibes." An attempt at walking the line between the visceral and the cerebral. Embracing both minimalism and a disregard for the formalities of technological boundaries, at times it's a brutal gut-punch of sound, at others it's a playful exploration of the oddities of rhythm. Call it what you like; it's pretty much batshit crazy.
