While Iner's Dobro label has released a number of full-length projects, the majority have been compilations. This, then - a debut LP from Russian producer Stogov, known primarily for blending deep house and jazz in different ways - is a significant release for DOBRO. It's also rather good. Stogov begins by peppering a thickset deep house groove with attractive female vocalisations and fluid jazz guitars ('Imagine'), before opting for loose-limbed jazz breaks, bouncy house beats and Todd Edwards style sample cut-ups on 'Smooth Turn'. Deeper, drowsier and more garage-house leaning vibes are the order of the day on 'Everybody', 'Y're Free' is a classic-sounding slab of thickset US deep house headiness, 'Comeback' is woozy, skippy and delightful, and closing cut 'Shine' sounds like a tooled-up take on 'Boulevard'-era St Germain.

Lord Of The Isles is the alias of British born producer Neil McDonald. Since 2011 the man delivered a steady amount of quality releases on labels like Mule, Permanent Vacation, Phonica and Unthank. Having just released his debut album “In Waves” on the acclaimed Californian ESP Institute label, run by Lovefingers, his contribution to our series comes at the right time. For his mix, Lord Of The Isles comes up with an hour long live set consisting of own tracks, which gives us a coherent insight into his musical mind.
