Stööki Sound - FABRICLIVE x Legacy III Mix

In the first week of September we’re heading to the beautiful scenery of Tisno, Croatia, to celebrate the first edition of Dekmantel Selectors. In the run up to the festival, we’ve launched a new temporary podcast-series where we invite ten of our selectors from the festival to dig deep in their unique collections. The idea behind the mix is to create a Time Document, focusing on a specific period of time with the artist being free in choosing this period. This period could in fact entail anything: a certain decennia, the time he or she fell in love, The Cold War, November ’92 – March ’93, or the rise of Nigerian music. It’s up to the Selectors to choose and tell us a story based on their music collection.

What has been a beautiful ride through many record bags, now comes to an end with the final Selectors Podcast by Manchester-based Andrew Lyster. The NTS-radio host provided us with a finger licking good mix, touching on many electronic gems that have a special connection to him.  "I wanted to stay true to the theme of the mix series, hopefully offering something different to the other selectors whilst also presenting something that’s true to myself."

Lyster is known as the co-founder and designer of the meandyou collective. Over the past years, Lyster has established himself as a DJ in his own right, through hosting the collective's monthly radio show with a string of world class guests and making regular DJ-appearances everywhere. "This corner of my record collection really excites me, so much interesting stuff was happening at this time, many of these tracks are what I’d now consider to be classics of that time. Quite a few older Manchester related things in here too, which are some of my personal favourites. For me this mix was more about recording a segment of my collection as opposed to a proper DJ mix. A lot of this stuff I picked up in the basement of Vinyl Exchange in Manchester; this era and that shop feel very connected to me."

Matrixxman has been a Dekmantel regular for a couple of years now. The San Francisco producer continues to impress with a new triptych for Dekmantel Records. Over the course of three EP’s (Rhythm, Acid, Polyphony), Charles McCloud Duff displays his versatile and original take on house and techno. The concept of the triptych is to explore the range within the confines of a particular limitation.

The first scheduled EP is called “Sector I: Rhythm” and is, obviously, an exercise in rhythm. Just because a track is entirely composed of drums does not mean it has to be lifeless or devoid of feeling. Given the right approach, drums can be symphonic and even tell an exciting tale in their own right. The four-tracker serves up classic rhythms tracks and is a party from the crust to the run-out, checking off Plastikmanesque styles with ‘Process’ and proper Spartan rhythmic patterns on ‘Mainframes 2.0’. Matrixxman never overstuffs his tracks, ‘Glyph’ being the perfect example of a flanging and spacious rhythmic rundown. ‘Instigator’ rounds things of in style, melting layers of drum effects and bone-rattling
machine rhythm.

For all the emphasis on good times and euphoria in clubland there’s always been a dark side to electronic music, a side that 23 year old DJ/producer and one of Belgium’s most exciting new talents Charlotte de Witte has readily embraced.

Having played some of the biggest festivals and venues around the world, the Robots have cemented their name in the deep house / techno scene. It's been a while since we posted our last podcast, nonetheless the wait has been more than worthwile. This time we asked the two German deejays/producers to provide some elevating beats for our series. Bodin and Jacob played themselves in the spotlight through recent mixes and productions and as such very much earned a spot for themselves right here.

The guys don't go for half work either. For the podcast they dug out an 80's analog mixer for juicing up the recording to the fullest. Respect! So get your head ready for some crate diggers delight and contemporary funk from these two talented german players. We're looking forward to seing them develop the coming years.

Since 2006 the French label InFiné released 21 albums and 49 EPs. A large discography in a short period of time that is crammed with music that does not follow one stylistic guideline. From Techno to Classic, from House to Electronica, and Pop: each new release enters a new path in sound. Their artists roster consists of hailed musicians like the Luxembourg pianist and composer Francesco Tristano, the Austrian Minimal Pop lady Clara Moto, the experimental Techno maverick Rone, mysterious Arandel, the Classic meets Techno trio Aufgang, and the French club music legends Agoria and Oxia. For Carhartt Radio the Mexican producer Cubenx, who released his debut longplayer On Your Own Again on InFiné in 2012, mixed a label showcase that underlines the multicolored publication policy of InFiné and documents that the record company lives the global dream with catchy but hard to pigeonhole music from all around the planet.
