Patchwork is an unusual compilation featuring experimental compositions written by SubConsciousMind (Raphael H) and a diverse assortment of musical collaborators. These free-flowing tunes are the result of creative encounters over an eleven year time span, from 1999 through to 2010. No plans were adhered to when the friends met in the studio and no attempts were made to conform to any particular style. This is a journey through time where electronic music meets voice, violin, guitar, cello, and more. Friends featured here include Shmau (Andrea Widmer-Pfeifer), Yade (Linda Hertl), Human (Human Sahebi), Psylence (Christian Rupp), Flowair (Florian Weber), Andi Luchsinger, Judith Zimmermann, and Luca Preite. Mastering and cover design by Raphael H.

Every time you think you've pinned down what Document One do, they show off one more facet to their style and confound your expectations. Since they signed to Technique Recordings, they've hit raves, airwaves, and rarefied DnB chart altitude with music influenced by all kinds of source material. Jazz, funk, soul, hip-hop, and techno have all been blended into something that could almost be neurofunk, but has a character all of its own.

We're soon going to be bearing witness to Document One's most expansive project to date, a five track EP to which “Haunted Spaces” is the title piece. And, if this sample is anything to go by, we're in for something dangerous.

As the bass plucks and psychotic monologue rap of the intro set the tone, it's clear that, along with that familiar laid-back jazzy Doc One vibe, there's an edge of darkness too. And then the drop takes us down the rabbit-hole even further.

A warped hybrid bassline, part natural, part machine, leads the way, while sharp lashes of drum keep things rolling. It's an irresistible funk-infused groove, but that shadow of tech paranoia is never far away. When the breakdown brings back that almost horrorcore verse, that feeling is confirmed and cemented.

This is Document One pushing the boundaries of the sound they've established for themselves. It's still aimed directly at the dancefloor, but has a more evil glint in its eye than you might be expecting. If this is the type of thing we can expect from the rest of the EP, we'd better brace for impact. It's going to be an intense ride.

[A] CELO - Critical:
Opening the 2 track release from CELO is Critical, a heavy hitting Drum & Bass roller fusing hard drums, with a bass line fuelled by ripping FM synths and an effortlessly melodic hook. The intro draws you in through the use of eerie pads and a pitched up break, before introducing the subtle melodic touches. During the break down and emerging from the background come hints of that ripping bass line before a powerful drop with the straight up and forceful tech step beat. The track progresses with a series of twisted bass lines supported by an intense synth, so make sure you expect a generous helping of real intensity, with this high energy track.

[B] CELO - Fall 
Fall was inspired by it's Transatlantic counter part autumn, where the darkness begins to slowly settle in, but is still reminiscent of the light and warmth of summer. A Liquid Drum & Bass track allowing CELO to demonstrate his love for bass lines that are full of warm rich tones, but still have an edge of darkness, coming together to produce his characteristic sound. Beginning with simple yet delicate piano notes and floating pads to enhance the atmospheric backdrop, with the beats dictating the tempo of the track and the complimentary warm and expansive bass line, expertly adding to the overriding emotions. As the track progresses as does the intensity with a wave of rolling stuttering amen breaks, to cement this track as a true Liquid DnB roller.
