A year after TINNITVS, our double anniversary compilation, we’re happy to present TINNITVS : RELAPSE, an extension of the original edition with remixes by members of the Global URL Nation.

In this edition, GUN affiliates /pulsr_ , Cosmic Caz, Désiré,  indigoblue, RougeHotel, SNKLS, Talita Otović & Yaka offer their own take on the original tracks and expand its sonic palette with a wide spectrum of noises, pitches, and textures. Buzzing, hissing, humming, clicking or sizzling, it’s still ringing!

As we enter into the 2018th Sequence of the modern earth time, so too does the Nostro Hood System advance forward, the system itself generating a gravitational pull marginally similar to that of the solar system nestled against it. Within the vast confines of the Nostro Hood, a vessel floats proudly – a beacon for the myriad of living spheres that surround it from every angle. The Waystation; a point of congregation for unimaginable beings who seek refuge, resources or even knowledge regarding the various species that occupy nearby worlds. 

At this time, at the beginning of a new year, the vessel lends its halls to the beings of the Nostro Hood. A celebration to the glowing star that lights the terrain for so many beings as it ages yet another lifetime. Providing the aural selections for this momentous occasion are ten artists, each hailing from their own homeworld, each offering a piece of auditory culture to represent the people of their planet. This multicultural experience truly defines the nature of the Nostro Hood – a celebration of difference both sonically and culturally.

BFTT is an artist who takes great care over his work. Through his DJ sets, his involvement with the Mutualism collective and his time running the Leeds-based clubnight Leftovers, BFTT has garnered a reputation for having an impeccable ear when it comes to future-forward techno. Meanwhile the producer’s releases for labels like Cong Burn (Cong Burn 02) and Whities (Blue 03) have been characterised by detailed drum programming and finely-sculpted synth textures.

The producer continues to hone his craft on the Versioning EP, his first release through Mr. Mitch’s Gobstopper Records. The EP’s title signposts that this is another set of carefully-calibrated club tackle. ‘Versioning,’ BFTT says, ‘refers to the lengthy process of building these tracks. Each has existed in many different iterations, with changes being made based on hearing them in different contexts such as in mixes or in the club, and having new ideas from those occasions.’

It is apparent from opening cut ‘Like’ that the time BFTT has put into Versioning has been well spent. Once again this track sees him precision-engineering each percussion part for maximum dancefloor impact. Across the course of ‘Like’ the individual drum lines coalesce into a polyrhythmic whirl reminiscent of Metrist or Batu. The tune is periodically interrupted by chunky ‘Pulse X’ bass hits, an Eski influence that links BFTT up with the grime-adjacent aesthetic of fellow Gobstopper artists Tarquin and Iglew. 

Versioning’s other tracks also feature strange synthetic sounds moving in and out of BFTT’s propulsive beat work. The undulating whistle lead of ‘I’ makes it come across like a supercharged version of Ciara’s ‘Goodies’. On closer ‘Ofusc’ we are reminded of Sophie’s early productions by the whooshes of bass and looped vocal snippets. While their focus is still on rhythm and movement, ‘I’ and ‘Ofusc’ also find BFTT introducing some thick keyboard pads into the mix. These warm tones have a human sensitivity to them which nicely offsets the more calculated and machinic elements of his style.

Intricate, weighty and welcoming, the Versioning EP should further BFTT’s reputation as one of UK techno’s freshest new voices.

We're delighted to be premiering a track from 'Out Of Fashion Boys Vol.1', the debut compilation from the newly-minted, Beijing-based "more than music" label of the same name (@oofb).

Previously Out Of Fashion Boys founders Luxixi  and TsingLung helmed party and label THUVDR. Through their new outlet, the pair hope to "practice creativity in more diverse domains" and offer more than just club music.

The compilation – which features an all-star cast of experimenters and previous party guests like Air Max '97, GORO, Merca Bae, False Witness, Ase Manual and more – sees all involved drawing inspiration from the city as well as wider Chinese regions. On 'Tongue Twister', Shanghai's @zeanmusic paints a vivid sonic picture of the Chinese capital.

"Oppressed, submerged, but packed with tremendous energy — that is how Out of Fashion Boys feels about Beijing as a city," says the label, "as well as the way it defines itself."
