Very nicely put together and played. It feels a lot like real players. Maybe not as much as Xsample libraries; but then these have a very nice tone of their own - especially the Bell violin!

Some sunday morning vintage mood playing with my 1979 GB10 on lead and rhythm. The lovely Jamey Aebersold play-a-long is from '79 too and this is my today's tribute to the guys from back then.

Smoothie

I recorded this in december 2020 and for a change this is a little idea I am actually quite fond of and want to elaborate on and turn in a complete piece. Some day I guess.

Instruments used on this one:

1. The piano is the felt one from Spitfire's SA Recordings series, the library is called OPW - after Oliver Patrice Weder and it is the first one in that series. It contains samples taken from his debut album I believe - including this really intimate upright

2. The strings are Spitfire's Originals! Intimate Strings, which really are brilliant value for $29. I regularly use them for chord sequences like this. When paired with Spitfire's Apassionata (to add fantastic legato sustains) I think many people would't really need much more in terms of string libraries with this type of sonic character

3. The solo violin bits near the end are Embertone's excellent Joshua Bell violin. It's the Essential edition (I don't own the full library) and it is just the most expressive VI for these types of lyrical expressive solo lines.

Blueprint for track that became 'Sandycove Milk'.

Inspired by wondrous music by Conin, whose track 'Kitty's Wake' reminded of the rich clay of Joyce's 'Finnegan's Wake'. This track, about the opening pages of Joyce's Ulysses, borrows coffee spoons, forever those of T.S. Eliot, in an effort to add sweet milk...drawn from the milk-well of honeyed Sandycove.  The lyric speaker is, notionally, Stephen Daedalus. For practical purposes, the lyric speaker is James Joyce himself. His aim? To hit Haines for a guinea [a pre-decimal unit of currency] before heading to France on a ferry. Whilst Haines still feels guilty (sheepish) about having fired his pistol at an imaginary cat he thought he saw in the fireplace in the Martello tower in Sandycove (now the Joyce Museum....a sacred...magical place, whose attendant Joyce scholars told me about the Haines' imaginary cat episode....it is all true...yet also dovetails eerily with the first chapter of Ulysses).

The reference to Haines having consumed Absinthe is a narrative fiction, invented to offer an explanation for his dangerous behaviour. No peer reviewed evidence capable of demonstrating Absinthe has hallucinogenic properties, exists, to my knowledge.

AI experiment - what would happen if I asked Udio AI to extend one of my tracks.  

From 0:00 - 1:22 is my original track.  

From 1:22 onwards is the AI.  You can make out the switch.  It learned from my track and decently nailed the style of the composition and the tone of the instruments.  The stereo image is narrower and instrument placement is a little different though.

But overall its honestly astonishing.  Its also a better piano player than me.
