For the 94th entry in the Honcho Podcast Series, we welcome Ouissam(@ouissamhk)! As the founder of Hong Kong’s Cliche Records, he was one of the first in that city to cultivate a disco-house-techno synthesis that shifted the understanding of what could be danced to there. 

He went on to create the magnetic Homesick and Fragrant Harbour labels, before suddenly setting his sights on Hanoi in Vietnam, where he has established the dance mecca Savage where he runs the monthly queer night Snug.  This hour long mix is a perfect example of his ability to move effortlessly between disco, house and techno. Enjoy!

After piquing our dance-floor interest with his amazing productions over the last few months, we had to ask him to remix Timothy Clerkin's 'Hatred' in November, which he turned into a club-destroying monster!

Always using a podcast as a platform for new voices, this mix showcases the communities I am lucky to be a part of. The tracklisting includes mainly women, non-binary and queer producers and their pandemic creations. It spans from Barcelona cyborg and transpecies artist Manel de Aguas who created ambient from the weather variations captured by his head antennas, to the strong sisterhood of women-led queer techno activists of Berlin, Paris and Warsaw. At the heart of this hour going from 127 to 140bpm, is my love for the diversity of technoES, plural, carrying a punk energy.

“Al een goed aantal jaren ben ik altijd springend, joelend en juichend in de club te vinden. Sinds ik naar Deventer verhuisde heb ik m’n aansluiting gevonden bij de Nachtparlement-familie en hebben ze mij omarmd als vaste gast, danser en vriend. Ook bij Nachtparlement kon ik in de clubnachten de opgekropte energie van de week er helemaal uitgooien.

Een andere manier om m’n energie en enthousiasme te uiten is door muziek te draaien. Dit doe ik al ongeveer 4 jaar en sinds een jaartje ben ik het wat serieuzer gaan nemen, wat dieper in de geschiedenis van verschillende subgenres gedoken en m’n muzikale kennis verbreed. Muziek draaien is voor mij de leukste manier om tracks die ik zelf heel vet vind te delen met anderen. In deze podcast heb ik geprobeerd een mix in elkaar te zetten die groovy en energieke tracks bevat van de genres die ik zelf het vetst vind. 

In deze podcast zit een mix van garage, breakbeat, electro, jungle, en alles wat daar tussen in zit. Toen ik hem opnam waren de clubs nog gesloten dus ik heb geprobeerd het club-gevoel na te bootsen met de muziek die in de mix zit. Hopelijk zien we elkaar allemaal zo snel mogelijk terug op de eerstvolgende Nachtparlement fissa!”

Maker of the dopest tracks, Glasgow's Fear-E is a definite fav around here. Ever since i got sent a batch of his new tracks i pretty much did not stop playing them, as they're all really inventive and effective all at once, with menacing melodies and twisted textures. We have a running joke that people only film me playing when one of his tracks is on! but the reality is i only play his music, nothing else muahahahaha
part of the dixon avenue basement jams crew, this bb is also a very good dj who hops between the best stuff in any dance genre with ease and intent, but for this mix we asked him for a very specific thing, an intense electro mix - after hearing through the grapevine that he'd like to do make people robot-dance to the sounds of fast electro music more often. and, tbh, listen to this naivetape and hear for yourself how prepared he is to legit electrify dancefloors no pun intended. also he's such a sound, lovely person and that's... the best. 
ps - we asked him and he does not Fear E btw, he thinks it's actually a gr8 time but these days he avoids it. so yeah, just to clear the air.
