Time Is Now

Australian music has long been somewhat of an ode to the everyman. Our culture has always been inclined to barrack for the underdog, the warrior, the survivor; and a long list of iconic musicians have served as a source of inspiration to us all. Dos XL is an artist who bears a striking resemblance to these influential people, but isn't quick to simply be cast into the same mould.

456 Entertainment's most experienced and seasoned addition, is an artist with a melodic sound and a personal story that yearns to be told. Being able to weave a tale of struggle and persistence is not only a rare ability, but one Dos can use easily to inspire.

Although not an atmosphere specific to Port Adelaide, growing up he had to face many of the adversities that a vast majority in the area had faced. Dealing with the effects of drugs, crime and low income living, Dos like many before him turned to hip hop as an outlet.

A true reflection of a lifestyle and success attained not by privilege, but by hard work and faith. It's this very faith and optimism that bleeds into the very soul of his music, creating a truly engaging and moving experience with each and every song.

Starting out his career with other local MC's, they formed the collective known as 'Verbal Knowledge'. Eventually moving on from this, he then went on to form another ensemble of rappers known as the 'Portside Gentlemen'. Though these ventures didn't last, the self-titled 'Portside Kid' always stays true to his Dockland origins, representing his heritage with pride.

Influenced greatly by the godfathers of American hip hop such as Snoop Dogg, Bone Thugs N Harmony and Outkast, it could be said that Dos’ more artistic muses lie with Australian pioneers such as Hilltop Hoods, Drapht, 360, Pez and Prime & Purpose. He also boasts an array of experience supporting international legends such as Obie Trice, Common and Talib Kweli.

A true representation of grass roots Australian hip hop, with a personal and modern twist, Dos XL is living proof that just because you come from the wrong side of the docks, it doesn't mean your ship has sailed before you get a chance to leave the Port.
