This week on There Is No Planet Earth Radio - I’m very excited to welcome guest DJ Tedd Patterson - For this week i’ll be airing a live recording  of his from Club USA 1993 

“Tedd Patterson is house music royalty. He has headlined with the top DJs in the world; he has released music on the most respected labels in the industry; and he has played a pivotal role in the spread of house music across the globe. Tedd’s boldly creative sets at the Magic Sessions (Miami WMC) inspired generations of clubbers and DJs, conferring on him legendary status alongside Tony Humphries and Louie Vega.

Tedd’s been spinning since the late 70’s with his ethos of “no musical boundaries—only musical journeys,” and his style owes as much to the past as to the present. His distinctive sound has earned him not only a huge, global fan base but also a career of impressive breadth and longevity. He has headlined Ministry of Sound in London, Pacha in Ibiza, and Panorama Bar in Berlin. Tedd has also brought his signature sound to Moscow, Tokyo, Montreal, and Naples.

Tedd gathered a following early on in the NYC music scene, with underground East Village parties at Sugar Babies and Save the Robots that have now evolved into regular gigs at destinations like Output, Flash Factory, and Le Bain. His Vibal party at uber-cool hotspot Cielo led to a 13- year residency and a whole new fan base. Tedd was chosen to play the first US Glitterbox at House of Yes with Simon Dunmore and also performed a ground-breaking seven-hour performance for visual artist Nick Cave at the Park Avenue Armory.

Tedd’s work in A&R and Promotion at Emotive Records during the heyday of New York dance music expanded his musical talents beyond the DJ booth and eventually led to his production debut. “Welcome to the Magic Session” was released on the iconic Strictly Rhythm label, and collaborations with heavyweights Eric Kupper, Pete Heller, and Chus & Ceballos followed soon after. His edits of Black Science Orchestra, Alicia Keyes, and Bjork, have gained cult status in the house underground.”

To ease you further  into the night is a mix from one of our all time favorite DJs- Will Automagic (@djwillautomagic) .  Raised in our native Austin, Texas but made a break for New York when he was 18, we’ve always had a kinship with Ms. Automagic. He has become one of the most revered DJs in New York as part of the Carry Nation but is a fierce DJ and producer in his own right.  Over the next hour he keeps the pacing slow but the energy level high.  Lather yourself in this lusty mix of heart quicking synths and stuttering percussion to prepare yourself for whatever may come your way.

“A very special thanks to the Honcho crew for this year’s Campout and for letting me share this set. This was the 4th Honcho Campout I attended and I can’t count the number of times a DJ or artist has made me lose it in the best way at Hemlock Hole. So getting a chance to play a daytime set there was really exciting but daunting. I played this set on day 314 of the genocide in Palestine. As a Palestinian in this current moment, trying to find a voice or create moods in music has felt beyond heavy. Is this a time for moments of joy? For dancing? What does it look like to participate in a dance floor when the world in this moment seems utterly unjust? 

I honestly wasn’t quite sure how to tackle this set. So after a lot of overthinking, I stepped back and poured over nearly all of my records over the course of 5 months. I picked ones that have kept me going this past year, many of which I had never played out before. These records, I hope, highlight the beauty of dance music, the resistance heard in the especially black, brown and queer artists who shape this music, and the importance of participating in a space that feels urgent and irrevocable to the queer community. As I played this set, I wore the words of Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, who reminds us: “And we love life if we find a way to it. We dance between the martyrs and raise a minaret for violet and palm trees.” Free Palestine.”
