A thought about crystals floating on ice floes in the Outer Seas of Arda
submission for Weekly Note Composing Jam #31 hosted by emscottish for Itch.IO August 2025
the prompt for the music jam was simply "Crystal Caverns"

But I morphed it into a character study of the frustrations of Ulmo after Gondolin falls and he goes to the other Valar.  Video sequence would be something like: he travels from this ice-floe thing with crystals on it (it being something like an alternate headquarters he seldom uses compared to lower Vaiya, but being floating crystals and ice, much easier to slide around than the isle of Balar had been) around to the west side of Valinor then walks across the fields of Oromë to Valmar and has his unsuccessful council and is just hopping mad mostly at Mandos that they still won't do anything.  Aulë and Manwë are sympathetic but everyone is like "not yet".

the Exilic Noldorin "Raxëlutta" can be meant either as "breaker who sails" to refer to the island-ship or "Ruin of the Free" in a darker, poetic sense of the tension of the moment of frustration.
