Just Warmin' Up (Extended Alpha)

Out in the wider world beyond itch this (release CCCLXXIX) is the first track of SebēšEšrā album that is not an Alpha Remix of an earlier piece from an earlier album.  

In the sense of having a lead-synth contrapuntally darting around (and doing so effectively, and on-the-beat for the most part with very little flaws) this track could be said to be a remote spiritual successor to Fat Bard Contortions (Track CII) way back in 2023.

The art square sources are two public domain images by Hans Holbein the Younger (1493-1543).

"Dies Irae" or Day of Wrath, is a 13th century Gregorian Chant and the goal of the Itch Music Jam was to build a derivative work using the base notes.

This was a challenge, I had to build sort of a guide MIDI and then remove the guide later after doing an impassioned manual performance against the one-instrument track, then afterward implement key changes, then after that play some symphonic violin sections to inter-cut between.

It merited more editing but as I frequently remind folks I juggle a 9-to-5 job at the same time.

The text prompt for the Itch music jam was "1000 Pigeon Army"
this led to thinking of Liszt's "St. Francis of Assisi Preaching to the Birds" (composed 1862-1865) for piano. inspired by the saint’s legendary sermon to a flock of birds, which often included doves or pigeons in art and lore.  The piece’s delicate, fluttering passages suggest a mass of pigeons taking flight.

The slower passages are inspired *very* loosely by "Le Chant des Oyseaux" ("The Song of the Birds") by Clément Janequin, a French composer from the early 16th century. Published around 1528-1530, it is a polyphonic choral piece.
