A Slumber Did My Spirit Seal is a short choir piece based on a poem of the same name by William Wordsworth.  The poem is from a set by Wordsworth known as the Lucy poems and is the only work in the collection not to mention her name.  The writing is meant to represent the death of Lucy and Wordsworth's depiction of this death.  He does this by paralleling her death to slumber.  The poem is not entirely gloomy, however, as Wordsworth comes to terms with Lucy's death by equating her spiritual existence to the beauty of the nature around him and by implying that he can still be with her through transcendental sleep.

This piece was written for and performed at my wedding reception.  The movement is designed to be a raw and unscathed version of love.

A Love Both Constant And Changing- I. Constant

This work involves a piano accompanied by stereo playback.  The harmonic material of the piano is in one whole-tone collection, while the processed sounds are in the other whole-tone collection.  The piece depicts the concept that every choice creates a number of universes based on the number of choices available.  In this case there are two options: the piano represents the dimension of choice, while the media represents the dimension of the unpicked option.

This work for band programmatically depicts a person's spiritual interaction with nature in an attempt to better understand and respect the earth.

The Elusive Forest Spirit

Subtitle: "a dance expressing the comic awkwardness of relationships." Shawna Pennock, soprano saxophone Brandon Quarles, baritone saxophone; and Quintin Malette, marimba.

This is the first tune I used with a new Soundtrack track-set that I made, for increased work-flow.
It stood between this title and "The Ancient Paradox".
I wanted to achieve a bigger and more epic feel in this track, with some specific emotions and possible activity reference, but I decided not to choose any extremely self-explaining title. To each their own...
Some possible dual symbolism, or different philosophical aspect in the musical detail references.
If you wanna get a big symbolism / hidden references challenge, then I highly recommend the "Broken Reality" and the "The Faires that stopped beat around the bush" tracks.
Hope you enjoy! There's still room for a few tweaks. Thanks for any comments and suggestions!

The Ancient Forces - Revisited (2012 version) Downloadable 48k 24bit wav-file!

This was my first composition once I got to college. It was composed as a woodwind quintet (flute, clarinet, oboe, Horn in F, & Bassoon) for the LaGrange College R.A.R.E. Ensemble.

I was inspired by a section of forest in a near-by state park that was naturally dwarfed, which I found to be quite unique. The area had a wonderful, playful atmosphere. I attempted to bring out this characteristic by taking advantage of the unique tone color that a woodwind quintet produces.

The Dwarven Forest

Nestled between two mountains and with a lake at it's exposed edge, Zagora is a city of lost wonders. Zagora was built on the ruins of an ancient civilization, with some of the original architecture still remaining. The most apparent oddity of this city are the lingering spirits wandering the streets and acting almost as normal citizens (among other strange folk, such as rat and yak people).

Getting By describes a 2 year process of finding our own voice as musicians and artists. Although we struggle(d) with a lot of closed doors as a new formed group, disbelief in our vision and money, we always came back to the pure joy of making music. Eventually we’re getting by and going for your own vision as an artist, no matter what, makes it all worth it. This is our first full body of work and we hope to continue our journey. The first variation of a track for Peter Lange's D&D campaign. The Iron Core is finally on the threshold of the enemy territory: the Shattered Lands. The landscape itself is more lush compared to the harsher and colder surrounding regions. This is a calm before the storm; an odd sense of peace while marching into the palms of the enemy.
