웃 In our episode five, we are thrilled to welcome the amazing artists @landhouse & @monika-zihler. This set was recorded during one of the last official nights at @lushplay . It was a night full of feelings, friendship and connection on the floor, and one Last Dance in a place that felt like ours for ever. The two waved through every emotion in the room — less a set, more a cleansing ritual; guided moments, a way to hold on and embrace the let go at the same time.

Just under a month after celebrating our (almost) tenth birthday and exactly 8 and a half years after releasing our first mix, we're looking ahead to another major highlight on our journey: episode number 100 of our down.cast series.

We’ve had Theo on our radar for quite a while and really love his way of putting music together, so we’re more than happy to finally have him as part of the series.

Today we’re featuring the known Berlin downtempo artist Rakäthe, who’s been on our watch list for quite some time. We’re just huge fans of her groovy downtempo “Ketapop” style. We’re all the more thrilled that she’s treating us to a special Set recorded during this year’s CoZy Festival—a fascinating journey through the world of deep and hypnotic downtempo. She skillfully maintains the balance between tension and relaxation throughout. Slow tempos and deep soundscapes blend seamlessly here. In a word: Fascinating.

✘What is your musical background?
R:// I listen to a lot of music by other artists and let my emotions guide me. In the past, I used to play the clarinet, and at some point I discovered electronic music, which had a completely new effect on me—something I hadn’t experienced before. Downtempo, in particular, really resonates with me because I’ve often felt in my life that I’m ticking to a different rhythm than the world around me.

✘ What makes good "afterhour"?
R:// Friendly people and everyone who’s already had some wonderful experiences the night before or in the days leading up to this—and who, because of that, can best enjoy the moment without expectations, taking plenty of time to savor good music (preferably slow) and the moment itself. I sometimes feel that vibe is like a simmered soup that’s had plenty of time to develop its flavor :)

✘ Any thoughts you'd like to share about your set?
R:// Get comfortable, whether you're alone or in good company, and just relax. Or groove along to the music—either way, make sure you have a good time.

✘ For gig recordings: How did you feel about the gig?
R:// It was a huge honor for me to play the after-hours set on Monday afternoon at CoSy—especially in front of the two after-hours icons, Ninze and Niju. Unfortunately, I was dealing with PMS3000 that day, which is why my day got off to a bit of a rocky start. But when I finally got to play my favorite music at 2 p.m. in warm summer weather for people who were really into downtempo, my day completely turned around. It was truly a special set for me because I dedicated a moment to the recently deceased musical genius Nico Stojan—a moment that moved me so deeply that I actually had to cry while DJing… But I felt so at ease with the crowd that it wasn’t even awkward; it was just such an incredibly moving and special moment. I want to thank all the sweethearts in the crowd for your commitment to taking a little ride with Rakäthe and really feeling it. The fact that you open yourselves up and let yourselves go means so much to me <3 Thank you for this wonderfully groovy, fun, and moving after-hour! 🚀
