My guest today is Dr Kris Magnusson 

Dr. Magnusson is the Senior Advisor to the VP Academic, and is responsible for preparing and implementing the business case for SFU’s proposed new School of Medicine. Concurrently, he is serving as the acting Associate Vice President Academic, Teaching and Learning. During his time as dean, he also served two terms as the Chair of the Association of BC Deans of Education, was co-chair of the BC Advisory Group on Provincial Assessment, led the development of the ACDE Accord on Internationalization in Education, and was co-chair of the SFU Aboriginal Reconciliation Council. 

Kris’ academic work is in the area of counselling psychology and career development. He was the recipient of the Province of Alberta Career Development Award of Excellence and the 2006 recipient of the Stu Conger Award for Leadership in Career Development. 

Kris is also a cofounder of the Canadian Research Working Group for Evidence-based Practice. Prior to joining SFU, Kris was a junior high school teacher, a college counsellor, and a faculty member in counselling psychology at the Universities of Calgary and Lethbridge

SB Rawz (she/her) is a coach for people who sense that the work of positive world change – whatever that means to each individual – starts inside, in the messy inner humanness, and with one’s relationship with themself. In her 10 years of coaching, this has looked like everything from exploring strategies to cope with procrastination to co-creating pathways down which folks find more of themselves, and more to appreciate (even love) about themselves. SB (or you can call her Rawz, if you prefer) is a lifelong lover of reading and writing, cooking and eating, and making all sorts of randomness from zines to silly faces to impromptu songs. She and her wife parent an adorable and stubborn pit bull mix because their human kids are all grown up.

My guest today, Brian Lambier, is the Founder and President of Career Vitality Services a Canadian career development organization based in Calgary, Alberta Canada that offers high-quality career counselling, career coaching, and retirement transition coaching, as well as workshops, seminars, and courses to individuals and organizations.

Brian is a Career Counsellor and Coach with over 30 years of experience in the human resources, career, and retirement coaching fields. He has a Social Work Diploma (Mohawk College), a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Communications from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo Ontario and is also a Career Development Professional and graduate of the Career Development Certificate Program at the University of Calgary. Brian is a member of the Career Development Association of Alberta as well as being Strong Interest Inventory Certified.

Brian is also a Certified Retirement Coach and is certified in both the Retirement Success Profile and the Life Options Retirement Assessment Tools. The Career Vitality Services team believes that the cornerstone of service is to help you discover your passion so you can live your dream.

Guest, Dr Michael Healy, is National Career Education Manager at myfuture, the Australian career information service, and adjunct Research Fellow at the University of Southern Queensland. He has over a decade of experience leading the delivery of a range of careers and employability learning services and programs, mostly in higher education contexts. He holds a PhD in careers and employability learning, publishing research in leading international journals and edited collections, and receiving several awards for excellence in career development research and education.

Guest, Dr Gill Frigerio is an Associate Professor in the Centre for Lifelong Learning at the University of Warwick who leads on the Centre's qualifications in Career Studies and Coaching.  Prior to moving into a teaching role, Gill worked in career development practice and management, and most recently was Head of Careers in the Centre for Student Careers and Skills at Warwick.

Gill's teaching interests cover theory and practice in career coaching; working with vocation and calling; as well as researching career development practice. She has research interests in intersectional approaches to women's career development, socially just careers work and supporting practitioners as researchers.

Gill is the Chair of NICEC, a learned society for those working in career development. She has recently completed a Doctorate in Education looking at a 'calling-informed' framework for career development practice and particularly focusing on women's experiences of work and faith.

Guest, Tom Staunton is a Senior Lecturer in Career Development at the International Centre for Guidance Studies which is based at the University of Derby in the UK. He mainly teaches on the MA Career Guidance and Development at the University and is also programme leader for this course. Tom’s research interests focus on the way that careers theory, politics and society interact. He is concerned with how people undertaking career development activities and how careers practitioners are affected by this development and could respond to them. He is currently involved in research projects related to career professionals' use of digital media, the experiences of recent graduates using social media as part of their career development and how information is used as part of career delivery.

Dorothy E. Siminovitch, PhD, Master Certified Coach, is founder and president of Gestalt Coaching Works, LLC. She is an international coach, consultant, speaker, and author. Dorothy is the founder and co-owner of the Gestalt Coaching Program in Istanbul, an ICF coach training program which she serves as Director of Training and as faculty. She is co‐founder of the Gestalt Center for Coaching, which delivers ICF accredited coach training workshops and extended programs internationally. She has recently joined Hudson Coaching Institute as faculty for a core coaching program. 

Dorothy earned her PhD through Case Western Reserve University’s prestigious Department of Organizational Behavior. She pioneered the application of Gestalt theory, concepts, and practices in the service of professional coaching. She began delivering Gestalt coach training in 1996 after earning her Master Certified Coach credentials from the International Coach Federation (ICF). Dorothy honed her rich coaching, teaching, and consulting skills while serving in leadership and primary educator roles at renowned Gestalt study centers, and she has expanded her knowledge and wisdom by co-presenting with fellow thought-leaders in the coaching field. She provides world‐class training in innovative and adaptive Gestalt-based coaching, resulting in transformative personal and professional development and learning for individuals, groups, and organizations.

Dorothy specializes in coaching for signature awareness of one’s presence, leadership peak performance, overcoming derailment, and working with high performance leaders, groups, and teams. She presents additional training and development opportunities to ICF conferences and chapters and by invitation to commercial and non-profit organizations worldwide. Her book, A Gestalt Coaching Primer: The Path Toward Awareness Intelligence (2nd Edition), is recognized as a profound introduction to professional coaching for those well-practiced and novices alike. She is co-developer and co-author of the Awareness 20/20™ leadership assessment instrument, a quantitative analysis of leaders’ awareness and the demonstrated ROI benefits of the self-aware leader.

Dorothy is best known by colleagues, clients, students, and presentation participants as someone whose inviting warmth inspires trust, hope, and intuitive wisdom. She was recently honored by the ICF-Toronto Chapter with the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award in Coaching. Engaging and observant, she practices a passionate commitment to being aware in the moment, to bringing her transformational presence to bear in every encounter, and to perceiving and offering new possibilities and choices.

Our guest today is the author of ‘The Joy of Not Knowing’ (Routledge, 2021), Dr Marcelo Staricoff PhD, NPQH, FCCT, FHEA. 

A former scientist and Primary School Headteacher, Dr Marcelo is currently a Lecturer in Education at the University of Sussex and joint course leader of the BA Primary and Early Years Programme. He has recently worked on behalf of UNICEF with policy makers, educators and textbook writers to help implement a reformed national curriculum in Uzbekistan. 

Dr Marcelo also works for Coram (a children’s charity), runs courses and acts as an advisor to a number of schools and educational organisations.He speaks regularly at national and international events on the principles that underpin the Joy of Not Knowing’s philosophy of education and school leadership. 

Marcelo is also the author of Start Thinking (Imaginative Minds, 2005) and has published widely in the fields of creative, critical, multilingual, multicultural and philosophical thinking and learning in the classroom. Marcelo is a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Education (APPG) and a Trustee of the Laurel Trust and Chair of the Michael Aldrich Foundation. 

Marcelo’s work and his contributions to education were recognised in 2019 by being named as a Founding Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching and in 2023 when he became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
