Kasper Marott’s back with a second bout of electronic mischief for Bassiani Podcast 197. The Copenhagen based selector’s been around for many years and has only improved his knack for rhythms from one to the next, that and his singular aptitude for reading a room and playing to a crowd’s most primal instincts. His releases on Seilscheibenpfeiler, Kulør and his own imprint Axces every bit as catchy as his longer monologues behind decks. A little note on Axces: collective’s a closer descriptor, a group of friends and feedback loop designed to create all manner of wonderful sounds, visual artefacts and memorable parties that includes Marott’s buddies Alfredo92, Popmix, Søren Kinch, A. Waze and Martin Gilleshøj. Back to its co-founder: Marott’s a tried hand whose genre-bending flair is both austere and playful, straddling the binaries that often threaten to typecast aspiring DJs. His airy and saccharine disco a world away from the techno frenzy he manifests for this latest instalment. This is his closing set from the club floor back in December, nine hours of warped loops and general techno frenzy. Pulsating rave from this charismatic Danish phenom.

Returning to the Podcast for yet another round of Mach 4 techno comes Mala Junta head honcho DJ Tool, a live recording from his clubnight’s Bassiani takeover back in March. The Danish-born, German-based selector and former Fast Forward collaborator is every bit the sound and feel of Copenhagen, the gritty, trance-focused beats that have found a home in the Danish city run through his work like liquid mercury and now have Berlin in their grasp. And for one special night earlier this year, alongside D.Dan and Yazzus, Tbilisi too came under his fevered spell. With a manifest focus on inclusivity, support, friendship, and community, his signature sound is faster than a speeding bullet, one that whips up every ounce of a crowd’s energy and leaves behind the type of excited chatter you hear at the cloakroom at the end of the very best nights. It’s a techno that cuts right through and connects with people in the most visceral way, releasing pent up spirits through ferocious tempos and whirling bass. Zenaari's Podcast is back with a very special number, and this one’s from German juggernaut Efdemin. Phillip Sollmann’s nefarious allonym claims a well-deserved space on many a record cover and many a flyer. So large is his footprint that now, years since he first picked up a piece of hardware, or even started building his own, he’s largely liberated from the real world constraints many younger artists face. With nothing left to prove, and all this newfound freedom comes the space to truly probe the possibilities of sound in all its dimensions. This method is tried and tested (think 2019’s New Atlantis), but with each passing year the road travelled gets longer and no less full of surprises. It’s all down to his highly personal and off-centre approach - to be sure, he’s just as comfortable with feel-good techno (and his unconventional treatments make an appearance there too), but the real magic happens without preconceived ideas about genre or format, and the result is both organic and capable of opening doors no-one ever knew existed. Zenaari Mix 013 is a mind-maze in sound, from gentle piano and theremin allusions, to spoken narratives and dialogues that anticipate the world to come, and of course, there are Sollmann’s beloved bells. This is fresh ground trodden, Efdemin bravely charging into the unknown, a strange and spiritual palette of sounds from one of electronic music’s most iconoclastic figures.

Up with a shape-shifting electronic and techno set, the Tbilisi-based DJ and Morevi Records affiliate flaunts the breadth of his talent through a versatile selection and impeccable mixing maneuvers. The result is a two-hour jaunt into the more techno-friendly side of his very own multiverse. From springy uptempo rides to detours into more nuanced, dubbed-out sonics, through genre-unbound meanderings and muscular house flexions, the wide scope of Boya’s mix keeps beckoning us towards the unknown with every bar. Next up in our mix-series is our good friend from Georgia, Kvanchi. Kvanchi is a central figure in Tbilisi's scene, being a resident and a core member at Bassiani. As a regular in Horoom, the club's upstairs, he has earned a reputation as one of the city's finest selectors. His deep connection to the local scene is evident not just in his sets, but also through his work as the label manager for Bassiani Records, where he champions both local and international talent.

For this mix Kvanchi takes us on the trippier and trancier sides of his collection, mixing old school stripped down goa records and minimal groove lockers. Kvanchi infuses the mix with a distinct blend of precision and world building - embodying the essence of his artistry, offering a glimpse into the groovy and rolling realms of trance music.
