Modern physics suggests existence is a 'neural network' of interconnected, vibrating particles (Quantum Entanglement) where everything exists in relation to everything else. Alternatively, in eastern philosophy; the organic world resonates on a certain frequency, a mutual hum, illustrated as the 'Dance of Shiva'. Could this cosmic dance be the same phenomena they are analysing in atomic physics?

Virtual Utopia 02: Faery

To guide us through the next simulated experience; Passing Notes Radio boss and 1/2 of the great new label ‘Companion', Pjenné [Melbourne, AUS], shows us what a utopian existence can sound, feel and look like.

Follow on as she glides through the stratosphere, looking down on the lush greenery and crystal water that our earth effortlessly inhabits... occasionally looking up into the vast display of distant stars and planets, glittering across the stillness of outer space.

Pjenné beautifully illustrates the phenomenology of nature through tracks which touch on each element, whether that be the ethereality of air, the intricacy of water, the depth of earth, or just the pure warmth flowing through this immaculately thought-out audible narrative.

We couldn’t help but think this would be the perfect soundtrack for the day peace on earth is declared, where humanity sits back and appreciates a new world— where collectively, we love what grows, exists and dies.

This small blue dot is our home… our balanced oasis in the desert of space. Perhaps we need the ability to fly to see a different perspective - and we’re sure this will help.

Pilotting the next installment of the Virtual Utopia series is Seven Hills Records (@seven-hills-records), a dual-cored unit residing right in the central processor of the UK, London. Whether it be their DJ sets, or their stellar lineup of releases as a label, these lot really know how to propel you into the future and past at the same time.

This hour long simulated audio-experience takes us from walking endless corridors of cold brushed steel; to wandering the metallic planes of a dusted-chrome retro-futurist world, somewhere on an outdated version of a open-world virtual reality, all whilst being seamlessly embedded with earthy, grounding, organic sub-frequencies that remind us we are still actually living beings.

Travelling through internet cables, with the squeaks and bleeps of passing electrons. Quantum delays and such speeds that cause blurred vision. Groove-infused electronic signals destined for a far alien reciever. All this combined with the immaculate taste and organic sound of Seven Hills makes this an hour of pure 5-star time-decoration.

Virtual Utopia 04: Seven Hills Records

Next to contribute to the Virtual Utopia series is Melbourne-based Sommi (@sommmi) who’s airborne, breaks-infused sound has really resonated with us in the Corporation since we heard his mix at the dawn of the 13th Chime series. 

This 60-minute program guides us through various landscapes, soundscapes and dreamscapes- beginning with a deep meditative introduction that feels like staring endlessly into a misty valley of crystalline refraction. Moving forward, we hover through views of lush surroundings and trickling waters, where Sommi really compliments the sounds of spring.

Gliding past smooth unknown structures of brushed aluminium, the metallic shades reflect the spectrum of existence back at you. A true ascension into a virtual universe. A pneumatic dream-world of mechanical efficiency. What a utopia earth could be.

During the program we will delve deep into a 3D simulated forest, an endless array of fractal trees and vegetation, rendered real-time. It all seems so realistic, until you look closely and see the edges of everything is pixelated.

Looking up at looping digital skies on seamlessly installed LCD screens. You open your eyes.

Hailing from Melbourne Australia, Don Chich  has a natural affinity to the mystical, psychedelic and spiritual sounds of the 90s. He is a true digger and craftsman of ambient, downtempo, chillout, trance, progressive and goa soundscapes.

Don Chich treats us to a driving, powerful and dark progressive and goa journey exploring the depths of the psyche. With a heavy dose of brooding 303s, soaring pads, tasteful stabs and subsonic baselines; this mix transports you to those early mornings on the dark dance floors and warehouses.

Buckle up, Let Go. This one elevates into higher states of consciousness. 

"The Pilgrimage begins in the depths of the cold sea as you float through sprawling coral reefs. You break to the surface; light fills your world as waves cascade and encapsulate you. You journey onwards to the land ahead; vegetation grows ever closer with each step. The scenery changes - water turns to murky mud and mangroves spill across the land as you trudge through the unforgiving swamp. Things turn dark as the trees above close and crows begin sing; there is no turning back you must go on. 

The swamp begins to fade and trees become dense. Wild fauna consumes the earth and flora runs rampant as tribes of animals emerge; you are just a visitor in the Rainforest. Something bites you and your senses begins to change; sound becomes colour and colour becomes sound - Ineffable and mystical experiences of the mind, body and soul.

You awake from your trance; where have you been, what have you seen and how far have you travelled? The forest is no more as the sun beats down, the trees have turned to orange sand and snaking dunes cover the barren land. The desert winds whisper your name; are you delirious or is it God? Is it salvation or is it a mirage? The only sure answer is to continue onward.

Mountains appear in the distance and you sense freedom from the hostile land; a restored faith gives you energy to push forward. You begin your ascent to higher ground in hopes to see civilization and trek the rocky and shrubbery façade. This is the hardest feat yet, your strength wains on this climb towards the peak, but something wonderful, something unexplainable carries you on. You peak the summit; ahead of you is life and civilization, behind you are the landscapes traversed on this journey. It is now time to find rest, peace and reflection before you begin the next chapter of your Pilgrimage" - Don Chich

002 | 'Pilgrimage' by Don Chich

Don Chich is a DJ, Musician and Economist originating from Boorloo (Perth) who now resides in Naarm (Melbourne), Australia. Don isa digger who co-runs the collectives Faith Invention and Sub Sekt, also hosts a radio show on Area 3000. His musical roots are as a touring guitarist and writer for hardcore and death metal bands in Boorloo’s underground punk scene.

This mix departs from his signature deep and psychedelic sounds, instead Don showcases the sounds of Café Del Naarm. These mix is a collection of songs and records he has enjoyed playing out during the Australian summer, exploring the pleasant old + new sonics of Hip-Hop, Trip-Hop, R’n’B, UK Street Soul, Ambient, Downtempo, Balearic, Deep House, Deep Trance and Intelligent Jungle.

Welcome to the latest version of Dream Software's: Virtual Utopia. The tenth update has been programmed by none other than Don Chich (@donchich), a core member of the corporation - that is, and always will be, close to the heart of the label. The southern hemispheres connoisseur of fine trance (and beyond) never fails to impress with his depth of knowledge, ability to synthesisiacally create detailed imagery in the minds of listeners, and his understanding of pace and progression throughout a set that keeps your desires and expectations in a harmonic symbiosis. Alex is a true creative in sonic storytelling, and this one is a timeless novel.

You plug in and feel the familiar sensation of shifting sensory alignment, preparing you for the program you're about to experience. As the landscape renders realtime and your retinas refocus you eventually make sense of what's in front of you. You accept the safety conditions and enter the program.  A dust-covered voyage through lands of future-past, heavy duty steel panels fitted together to the latest interstellar corporations safety 'standards' line the floor as pathways, half covered by orange sand. The panelwork extends to the external walls of buildings, doors, warehouses, and even vehicles - it must be something to do with the pressure or gravity on this planet? Extreme weather? It's hard to be sure. Either way you board a vehicle that feels as if it's waiting for you; the 30cm thick steel door slides closed behind you with a satisfying pneumatic locking system. An increasing drone of engines reaching power vibrate underneath you, the engines stabilise, and the vehicle slowly heads towards the sky, a heavy orange fog, ascending into a distant unknown.

Endless shimmering displays of various gas clouds, exhibiting far more than the visible light spectrum, populate your peripheral vision as you approach a distant quadrant of the net of reality. Constellations you've only seen and heard of through the Ethernet drift by as you allow the gravitational pull of the local solar systems to steer you through this section of deep space. A metallic asteroid being guided through the expanse of existence. Velocity increases as the sizes and number of planets do; light begins to bend in ways you throught unimaginable, layers of reality slowly tear away like burning holes through paper, and as the pace increases, what's revealed below seems impercievable to anything that exists on a dimension lower than it. It felt like a realm of vibrational egalitarianism emitting a pure omnibenevolence and omniscience that made you feel calm and at peace, an entity that felt familiar yet incomprehensible at the same time.

A computerised female voice explains it's time to turn around and head back to the initial coordinate of the program, and due to the rapid expansion of this part of space we must travel at warp speed to counter-act it. As the GForce increases the outside becomes a true spectacle; photons bending and stretching past you as the mechanics of physics become a series of unanswered questions, the phenomenology of 'now' proves the metaphysicality of existence is just as real as the physical. The vibrational information stored beyond of the quarks of existence is now visible to the naked eye and shares secret formulas of nature's code, only perceivable when you realise there is nothing to percieve.

Powering through the dark expanse at such speeds unveils the fracticality of existence. The mathematics of nature is all based on fractal equations and common series' of organic 'numerical' systems which are processed without the desire to categorise or understand. All of this information is embedded within the nucleus of every atom at a vibrational level. Does this mean music is somewhat a language of nature? Is the never ending, fractally peripheral progression of this program an understanding into natures way of doing? Or is this all something we are all too physical to understand?

A live DJ recording from Don Chich B2B GNMR at For The Cause Festival outside of Melbourne in Poowong, Victoria Australia on 29 March 2025. For The Cause is a loving curated, grass roots and intimate festival from a group and community of wonderful and kind people doing it all for the right reasons. 

The guys played a now-legendary closing set the festival on Saturday night/Sunday morning from 2:30am till 7am and we're lucky enough to have it to share with the world. 

It's an immersive, barnstorming 4 and a half hours of the highest grade records, two selectors going b2b for the first time and by the sounds of this, definitely not the last. 

There are gems a plenty in this mix as you'd expect from Don - head chef of the always-reliable Don's Delicatessen channel on YouTube - and GNMR, an Italian selector who held a residency at the legendary Goa Club in Rome.
