o•rbyss aims to help soothe the queer spectrum and focus on the well-being of the community. Queer DJs are invited to submit a mix to showcase an alternative side to their music library outside of a rave and take us on a meditative journey. ✨

Notes on the mix:

“As the final chapter of summer approaches, I chose to create an ambient mix in time for the seasonal shift to introspection, reflection & hibernation. A mix for any time or place, to help you experience your surroundings away from the dancefloor.”

Bethan is a London based DJ, and can often be found playing and promoting at East London's much loved Dalston Superstore, as well as other queer parties across the capital, and is a core member of the long running night 'Happy Endings'.

She creates diverse sets that explore the deep, percussive & emotional side to progressive house, early trance, techno & beyond. However, she is just as comfortable playing at lower BPMs, swirling between ambient, downtempo & jungle.

To begin the mix series of Deities, I am delighted to welcome Bethan as Nova. With a beautiful fusion of etherealness, light & tranquility, Bethan has curated a Deity that holds profoundness, nature and a purpose in life close to them. 

This mix elegantly captures these wonders through storytelling and seamless blends of carefully selected tracks, serving as the soundtrack to their initiation into becoming Nova.

spring ~ the season of new life & transformation. nature awakens from it's dark winter slumber, flowers begin to bloom and creatures emerge from hibernation. leaves & trees unfold as they soak up the sun, overflowing with vitality. as the earth is rejuvenated, spring also allows us to stir a revival within ourselves.

The latest firmware update for the Virtual Utopia servers has been released, offering a simulated experience audio-coded by london-based Bethan (@bethan_l). A luscious adventure through dreamy organics, transiently spanning downtempo to trance, all immersed in sheer chromatic layers of formless, ethereal beauty. 

Here, the water glows with an otherworldly luminescence, and the delicate ripples shimmer with a soft purity that calms the soul. You breathe deeply, the clean air surrounding you radiates a warming hum so present it's almost audible. The hum feels omnibenevolent—so harmonious it seems to stretch beyond the boundaries of the physical, vibrating in tune with a dimension where only pure energy exists.

From beneath the translucent waters, something begins to rise—a presence, a fractal unfolding of light and sound, fluid and formless, bending and shifting with the rhythm of existence. It is a living, breathing connection between the unseen and the seen, a metaphysical healer from a distant reality resonating on frequencies higher than those known in our world.
Below these quiet waters, a lotus begins to grow, its petals unfolding as it reaches for the first soft kiss of light. As it blooms, ascending from the depths, it reveals a pure, radiant beauty, untouched by the darkness below. In this moment, it becomes a whisper of awakening—rising above the shadows, embracing the light with quiet grace, a dreamlike reflection of the soul’s journey.

Kasper Bjørke’s upcoming mini-LP ‘Fountain of Youth’ bends genres such as classic house, electro, post disco and techno, into his own melting pot of late night jams - created entirely for the dance floors. It´s Kaspers joyous return to clubland, after focusing his previous album productions on song oriented compositions, suitable for home listening rather than the clubs. We can´t wait to share it with you!

Before that, ‘Cloud 9’, leading single from ‘Fountain of Youth’ is arriving with a remix package, as always handpicked by Kasper himself.

‘Cloud 9’ comes in two original versions: An instrumental version, that with its dreamy analoge OB-8 pads, haunting melancholic bell theme and 808 breakbeats surely will take you back in time. The vocal mix features Urdur from Icelandic band GusGus. Urdur delivers an infectious hookline, with a clear reference to the 90s vocal house scene.

Weval, soon to release their debut album on Kompakt, provides a stunning and brilliantly different take on the original, refocusing the vibe into a shuffling, lo-fi jam, complete with their signature sampled, pitched vocal bits.

The Italian duo Marvin & Guy, known for their jams on John Talabots Hivern Discs and most recently on Correspondant Records, brings a beefy, chugging Italo vibe to their main version with a classic arpeggio synth anthem. Marvin & Guy’s Dub Remix is pushing the simmering melodies into a dreamy climax - and is a sure shot for the open air sunset slots this summer.
