There is an increased focus on the ethnic side of dark progression in this mix, which I was really ecstatic to be able to play. Dr Foo Live From The Deep End III @ Spiffy Dapper

Sek Sheng, also known by his artist name ‘Dr Foo’, is a sound meditation facilitator, musician and DJ who holds space and prescribes music for healing and integration of deeper aspects of the self. He has immersed in and been trained in sound healing, yoga, meditation and music production in an ever evolving journey in the past 10 years.

Dr Foo believes that sound is a universal language that can re-awaken our innate power and connection with all, and serve as a fun yet sacred medium for healing and understanding. His journeys emphasise the importance of owning our darkness before true healing and expansion can occur.  

His sound healing journeys interweave live therapeutic instruments (singing bowls, harp, melodic drums etc) with electronic music (hypnotic synths, binaural beats), nature sounds, ethnic music and mantras across cultures. It is a reflection of his journey starting as an underground club DJ in Melbourne to immersing in yogic journeys in India & Bali, and then realising the power of sound for therapy.  

In recent years he has curated soundscapes for yoga and meditation events, full & new moon sound healing journeys as well as ecstatic/conscious dance events.

I grew up listening to disco, funk, R&B, was once an aspiring DJ in the early 1980's who for quite a while made a living selling mix cassettes to friends and acquaintances to buy expensive maxi-singles for potential airplay. However, I felt that R&B music had undergone a regressive transformation in 1983 and 1984 so radically that I fell out of love with R&B and delved into punk, new wave, and brit pop. I scrapped my ambition to become a dance club disc jockey for a very long time. In 1996, while going out dancing with my friends in Germany, techno, trance, and house music caught my attention, I would occasionally find a tune worthy of a mix or two but I was not in the correct environment to find the necessary inspiration as my favorite clubs were, one after the other, while living in Germany going out of business, Anyway, time went on, and I expanded my horizons musically by listening to music from many parts of the planet, such as anime, along with mainstream and traditional Chinese and Japanese tunes, finding Yuki Kajiura and Faye Wong particularly inspiring. I stumbled my way back to electronic music in 2012 and noticed that it had evolved so much since 2002, is much better than during my years in Germany. For now my interest in musical styles are changing week after week. For now, I like techno, dub techno, progressive trance, synthwave, ambient, vaporwave, chillwave, dystopian, blade runner, and lounge.

Dr. Foo and Joshen, both members & DJs of local Trance community "Trance Republic", dabbled with the idea of doing a B2B collab after playing at several gigs this year. A mutual appreciation of each other's musical palate culminated the idea of forming a duo. After some explosive ying-yang in the studio together, the two decided to synergise their sounds as Hypnotic Visage!

The beauty of this visage lies in their smooth juxtaposition of each other's different core musical identity. With a keen focus on the art of progression, Joshen and Dr Foo brings out the best of each other in creatively diverse ways, while constantly driving home the reason which got them into the scene in the first place.

Hypnotic Visage is a synergy of passion across the realms of Trance and EDM. Striving to bring back the essence of DJing focused on seamless FLOW and JOURNEY to ethereal dimensions, the fusion of Dr Foo and Joshen is essentially a trip to the depths of the soul to realise the ability to soar to a higher state of mind. The juxtaposition of light against dark is welded by the duo's intricate understanding of melody and progression. No stranger to the dark and ethnic vibes across Trance, Techno and Progressive, Dr Foo strikes up an explosive partnership with Joshen to leverage on Joshen's gift for the magical melodies and to get in touch with the uplifting side of trance again. Influencing each other one song after the other, Joshen and Dr. Foo manages to bring out their hidden personalities in the form of pure melodic and (twisted) progression across the BPM ranges. La influencia del trance llego tarde a mi vida, pero no así la música electrónica, grupos techno como Kraftwerk,  o del synthpop como Nik kershaw, marcaron mi mente allá por los 80s, pero definitivamente, el Goa Trance de Astral Projection, y sobre todo los compilados de Trancemaster, volaron mi cabeza, y a esos artistas, trato humildemente de emular, pero con mi estilo y música nacida de la pasión, por el estado hipnótico de su majestad, "El Trance".   



The influence of trance I'm late for my life, but not electronic music, techno groups like Kraftwerk, or synthpop like Nik kershaw, marked my mind back in the 80s, but definitely, the Goa Trance Astral Projection, and especially the compiled Trancemaster, blew my head, and those artists, try to emulate humbly, but with my style and music born from passion, hypnotic state of his majesty, "the Trance"
