Capping what has been another vintage year, nu-disco star Tim Bernhardt, aka Satin Jackets, sees out 2018 in style with 'Lost In Japan', a cover of Canadian star Shawn Mendes' recent mega-hit. Featuring frequent collaborator Niya Wells ('Primordial', 'Never Enough') on vocals, the pair have transformed the pop smash into a smooth slice of late night disco.

"We'd just finished recording our last single together 'Primordial' and were knocking around some new ideas," Tim explains. "We'd talked about doing a cover so Niya played me the new Shawn Mendes single and as soon as I heard her sing it I was sold. It's always interesting to try and put your own spin on someone else's song, especially one that's been as popular as 'Lost In Japan', but I think together we've managed to give it a fresh take." 

Whether producing modern Balearic house anthems such as 'You Make Me Feel Good', seductively soulful tracks like 'Through The Night' or genuine poolside classics like 'For Days', Tim has established himself as one of the biggest names in the modern disco scene clocking up more than 35 million streams of the debut Satin Jackets album, 'Panorama Pacifico', on Spotify alone.

This is my Spin City Show that aired live on myhouseradio.fm 02.12.2018. This week I had the pleasure of hosting the show with the fantastic 'Patchouli Brothers'. I played out the first hour of the show before handing over to the lads to see the show out. Boy did they do it in style, with an outstandingly smooth set.

A bit more about Goz's guests this week:

The Patchouli Brothers are purveyors of disco music, a style that encompasses a raw and eclectic mix of house, soul, jazz & boogie.

The duo first began throwing parties in an Albanian dive bar in Toronto’s east end, but have gone on to grace the stage at a spectrum of the city’s establishments. They hold down a residency at a a disco jam called Beam Me Up, which is held both weekly in Toronto and monthly in Montreal. They’ve played with Kon, Horse Meat Disco, Joey Negro, Al Kent, Psychemagik, John Morales, Eddie C & Tom Noble, and have had releases on BBE, Basic Fingers & Whiskey Disco, with a project forthcoming on Strut Records.

This mix is definitely a "party mix" for me: a harder sound, full of Italo masterpieces past and present, which is what I'll be bringing for Drift Nieuwjaarsdans. I recorded this live, and almost every song I play is from a 12", with a couple of exceptions: the Strada, which is wildly beyond my price range, Nico Band, and a special edit of Vikki Benson's Easy Love by my friend and Italo hero, George Hysteric. I also play a 12" from one of Toronto's finest Hi-NRG acts, Tapps, as an ode to my hometown." - Automaticamore

Masterworks Music mastermind 80’s Child unleashes the third in his Masterworks compilations. A two-part vinyl release with volume one joining the dots between The Funk District, Oldchap, Dr Packer and Hotmood.

Stepping up first, The Funk District harnesses those glamorous grooves into a DJ friendly, uptempo slice of sunshine, sure to make an impression in those peak time sets. Oldchap takes things into deeper territory with a disco house joint filled to the brim with sleazy synthwork, staccato guitars and dreamy percussion coupled with touches of funk vocal brilliance.

Flip it over and Dr Packer dissects some disco gold, re-stitching into a brass led, boogified roof raiser. Closing out part one of Masterworks Vol. 3, Hotmood lovingly loops up a bass riff and tight percussion with reverberated vocal samples to create a bumping floor filler. Hold on for a spiritual synth solo that elevates ‘Your Big Chance’ into the far reaches of the sonic stratosphere.
