When I came to London last year to join fabric and head the A&R for the artist led label Houndstooth I got dragged down to Hackney Wick for what was going to be a life changing techno event of the rawest level. This happening is what has inspired my series of Warehouse Sessions, where I have reached out to my favourite techno artists and asked them to get inspired by that unique thump thump betwixt concrete sounds that industrialised techno spaces always provoke and provide a suitably banging mix for my Electronic Explorations podcast series.
This week I've kicked off another round of mixes lead by Our Circula Sound man Sigha, London resident Ø [Phase], Semantica Records boss and Spanish producer Svreca, Italian producer and co-owner of Repitch Records Shapednoise (One half of Violetshaped) and finally a US producer who has released on Sandwell District & Stroboscopic Artefacts, Rrose.
December 2012 brought mixes by USA producer Skirt, UK producer Truss aka MPIA3, Stormfield & myself, Irish and Greek producers AnD and French producer Kangding Ray (his being voted EE mix from all shows in 2012)

Q: What do you think about My Favourite Freaks Podcast?

A: The podcast library is one of the most versatile DJ mix library I’ve ever seen. It’s absolutely FrEakY phenomenal!
I’m proud to have delivered more than one DJ mix to that collection.

Q: What kind of style you played in your mix? Do you made something special? Or just a mix?

A: This is a live recording of a 1h part of a longer DJ set I played at a Herzblut label night with Stephan Bodzin and myself.
It’s a peak time Techno set combined with some live elements I played during my set with analog drum computers &amp; synth.

Q: What is your next release and where do you release it?

A: After my first release „Brainwash EP“ on my new imprint Yes We Can, the second one is coming end of August in collaboration with Patrick Kunkel.
It’s a 6 track EP, three of them will be released on vinyl. One track is also in collaboration with vocalist Mehrklang.

I have already produced a new Broombeck album which is scheduled for a release end of this year and will be financed with a crowd funding project at the moment via this page:

We don’t often invite people to run the FACT Mix gauntlet more than once – but if anyone gets to bend the rules, it’s Klock.

The Berlin titan last graced these parts back in 2009, filing a muscular FACT Mix entirely in keeping with his reputation as Berghain’s bosher-in-chief. The last five years have seen him consolidate his reputation as a standard bearer of refined, take-no-prisoners techno; his eight-hour-plus sets continue to shake Berghain’s foundations, and, although his output has slowed substantially, he’s still found time to knock out the occasional release on Ostgut Ton. His Klockworks label continues to tick along, too - new releases from fellow FACT mixer Trevino and Etapp Kyle are imminent, plus, if a forthcoming stint of “studio time” comes good, potentially more new music from Klock himself.

Those expecting pulverising 4×4 might be surprised by Klock’s sophomore FACT mix – a “deeper, dreamy” collection, bookended by two vintage ambient tracks and shot through with wonder. Unreleased Klockworks material features, as do cuts from the likes of Function, Ben Sims, Surgeon, Orgue Electronique and Lucy. The mix is a studio-recorded affair – something Klock sees as a very different kettle of fish to playing out: “Club mixes are obviously more spontaneous and capture the vibe of a specific night, while working in the studio offers other possibilities like re-editing tracks and layering tunes more precisely, which I’ve done a lot of that here.” Set your watches…

Chris Thomas is a young, up and coming House, minimal, techno DJ/Producer, born and raised in South-East London.  He's the founder of underground music event Noise & Girls, an event which focuses on the music he loves supporting artists such as Cera Alba, Kalyde (who featured in our Debut Transmission Section), Markel, Jey Kurmis, Jamie Trench, Low Steppa, Christoph to name but a few.

Founded September 2013, Noise & Girls was the first in Canterbury to introduce the sound of the underground. No frills, no gimmicks; Noise & Girls is all about the music and the atmosphere it creates.  It above all was setup to bring quality DJs who provide authentic music to a group of like-minded underground music enthusiasts.   We've been impressed with Chris for a while here at Data Transmission so we've invited him on to the Spotlight Series today, to show his stuff..

Spotlight Mix : Chris Thomas

This time we have a young talented Spanish producer, born in the city of Toletum. He started his first projects in Madrid with Adolf Marsan, and nowadays he's living in Barcelona.

This Techno Minded Hero just released a remix for HD substance on Albert William's label "Black.", and is affilated with labels like the Russian Wunderblock Records and Labrynth.

His productions and remixes are finding their way in many sets by names like C.7even, Anika Kunst, Drumcell and Juho Kusti.

We are very gratefull for him joining the Drone Family. Now on the Drone Podcast No. 055, Korben Nice!

Biography

Korben Nice is a young Spanish producer, born in the city of Toletum. He started with his first projects in Madrid, he started his learning with Adolf Marsan. His first productions were published in Croatia, Portugal and Italy. He has produced for the American label founded by Michaelangelo in California Labrynth with references to A Paul and Oscar Mulero. He has done some works for the German label Physical and 43Recordins Techno label founded by Michel Lauriola. He has remixed top producer HD-Substance for the label Finnish black. He is referenced to the Russian label wunderblock, which has published and obtained his greatest hits. Korben Nice opts for atmospheric and hypnotic sounds. The style that defines it is the electronic and techno. Actually, he is living in Barcelona

This is a long-overdue homage to one of the best house labels ever conceived. At only ten releases long, and almost entirely created by both The Timewriter and Terry Lee Brown Jr., Driftwood hit the mark every single time with some of the smoothest deep house around. 

It took me quite a while to complete the series, not to mention a good amount of money, but the hunt was worth every penny. I've owned the entire series for about six years now, but just now am finally getting around to compiling a mix of only driftwood tracks. 

Total respect goes to the Driftwood label, Jean F. Cochois AKA The Timewriter, Norman Feller AKA Terry Lee Brown Jr., Hakan Lidbo, Robi Uppin, and Jonathan Axelsson. Special thanks goes to my friend Travis Wolf for originally pointing this label out to me back in 2002 and for kicking off an obsessed passion for this Imprint.
