Last saturday was really special to me. In 1997 i´ve played my first Live Set ever at the old Tresor in Berlin as DisX3. Now for their 25th Label Birthday, Tresor invited me to play a special DisX3 DJ Set. I´ve spent 3 weeks of preparing all the old Tracks that made me dance when i was a young boy and went to Tresor almost every Weekend. So for me this DJ Set was kind of time travel. Just recently THNTS has discovered electronic music, before he was mostly interested in Hardcore, Black- and Doom-metal. A record collector and enthusiast he especially appreciated the created atmosphere. Soon he began to find the similarities in atmosphere and sound also in experimental kinds of techno. His DJ-sets resemble this development: sometimes driving, sometimes dreamy, but always telling a tale. 

After 1,5 years of involvement in the apathy crew he was a founding member of the new project ESCH which was born in the beginning of 2016. It is focusing on the challenging and hypnotic interpretations of techno while sticking to the road less traveled and supporting under the radar talents.

For this episode of the Drone Podcast, we have a Techno Minded Hero out of Hamburg, Germany. 

Since 2012 he has been really working his ass off, and it's paying out. It is not labeled as regular, if people who have done remixes of your tracks are: Kyle Geiger, Hans Bouffmyhre, Developer and Black Asteroid. With releases on labels such as Dmom, Illegal Alien Records, Unknown Territory and Micro.fon, he is now currently working together with the great DJ Emerson on an album. We are really looking forward to that.

Also worth mentioning is his release under his alias THOPE. The Dope Frequency EP is out on Alex Bau’s label CREDO and definitely worth listening.

It must be a kind of special liquid, thick like a lead weight that runs through Hamburg-based DJ and producer Thomas Hoffknecht, supplying his techno machinery constantly with energy. From head to toe he is pumped with pure Detroit Techno, which can be witnessed when attending his sets, where he seems to be grown together with his decks! With his powerful and pumping sets he turns a party night into something magical. Thomas’ special grasp for the moment and the crowd did not just help him succeed in the republic’s clubs but also with his productions. His dark and pumping studio-fallout can be found on labels like Micro.Fon or Unknown Territory and is praised in clubs and magazines at the same time.

Diese Woche präsentiere ich euch den Athener DJ und Producer Nick Devon von meinen Freunden von Steyoyoke Records aus Berlin. Seit über 20 Jahren hat sich Nick bereits der elektronischen Musik verschrieben. Bereits mit 16 hat er angefangen mit Spielzeug-Pianos und allem was Töne erzeugt Musik zu machen.

Anfangs produzierte Nick drum&bass und Trance, bis er seinen Sound mehr in Richtung Techno weiterentwickelte. Diese vielen verschiedenen Richtungen hört man seinem jetzigen Sound immer wieder an … mal tiefe deepe Bässe, Acid-Lines und trancige Melodien. Nach wie vor ist Nick auch ein Vinyl-Liebhaber und versucht das schwarze Gold in seinen Sets wenn möglich zu integrieren.

2010 hat er sein Soloprojekt ins Leben gerufen und sich stetig weiterentwickelt. 2015 hat er gleich zwei mächtige EP auf Steyoyoke veröffentlich die für Aufsehen gesorgt habe --- „The Poem“ und „Cosmos“… seitdem ist er von Steyoyoke nicht mehr wegzudenken. Auch seine aktuelle EP „Devotion“ überzeugt mit seinem ganz eigenen etwas düsteren Stil.

Für uns hat er einen wunderbar spacigen Podcast eingespielt der an eine Reise zu den Sternen erinnert. Vielen Dank Nikos für deine Mühe und euch da draußen eine wunderbare musikalische Stunde.
