For the next installment of our podcast series, we are more than pleased to welcome DJ Aakmael, who delivers on a one-hour mix filled of raw and deep house of the purist variety as per usual.

DJ Aakmael (aka Greg Stewart) is definitely not an ordinary deep house DJ/producer. The Richmond (VA) based artist is an absolute legend and storied DJ/producer who has got started behind the decks at the tender age of 16 doing parties, school jams, weddings, house parties, etc., playing everything from hip hop to r'n'b, house, classical, jazz, reggae and opera, and has been releasing records since the early 2000's (when all of the DJ magazines, radio and A-list DJs only paid attention to progressive, big-room, tribal house...), devoting his life to producing and curating some of the best house music the world has to offer and keeping the deep, soulful and raw house sound pure.

Whether it be educating the ears of countless listeners throughout his 20 years stint on WDCE 90.1 FM or representing the sound of Virginia on international labels, the American musician has done his part in keeping the fire of house music alive in the States.

Roughly 15 years into his craft and responsible for releasing heater and heater over the last decade for respected dance labels such as Second Hand Records, Nite Grooves, People of Heart, Uzuri, Scissor and Thread, Church, Freerange Records, Axe On Wax, Release Sustain, Kolour LTD, Hizou, Monologues Records, Dogmatik Records, Flumo/ANMA, as well as his own imprint UnXpozd Entertainment, DJ Aakmael is slowly, steadily making his mark on the lexicon of house and it seems like he is somehow only getting started and a bright future awaits him.

Aak has graced the dance floors of About Blank (Berlin), Fáklya Klub (Budapest), Good Room (NY), Bossa Nova Civic Club (NY), Output (NY), TBA (NY), MotorCity Wine (Detroit) and many more, and played alongside Frances Harris, DJ Spinna, DJ Sprinkles, Patrice Scott and Kai Alcé, just to name a few.

Drone Time Podcast #035 | Morgan

Originally hailing from Australia, Morgan's beginnings saw her experiment with hip hop, soul and disco. However, Morgan found her true calling in electronic and house music, listing in 2017 in Mixmag's 20 Artists rising from the underground and we definitely agree.
Nowadays she's a NYC based fresh talent, artist, producer and DJ known for releases on labels such as Budare, Sunday Money Music, Guy From Downstairs' GFD,  Loco Dice's Desolat imprint and for her collaborations with Guti on The Martinez Brothers' Cuttin' Headz. The latter, including a Dan Ghenacia and Chris Carrier remix, are expertly crafted tunes that vary from dancefloor focused tracks to more soulful and downtempo productions.

Beyond that, she's also one of the driving forces behind the infamous Golden Record NYC party series.

From the material she's supplied thus far, it's clear she has plenty of versatility to share.

Ah, Byron, Byron, Byron—what can we say? We're absolutely enamored with this guy's music. And, we couldn't be more thrilled to welcome him into our family on Low Recordings.

We are back with our second vinyl release, featuring Byron's "Love 4 Music." This 4-track EP is a celebration of love, with Side A and Side B showcasing two distinct styles where Byron truly shines. Side A delivers the club hits, while Side B envelops us in a soulful/R&B/deep house vibe.

Kicking off Side A is "Creepin' With U." The track begins with haunting chords that exude an eerie and raw vibe, swiftly leading into a thumping, club-certified kick drum. As the song progresses, a hint of nostalgia from the lo-fi days creeps in, complemented by vocal samples that add to the eerie atmosphere. Yes, it's eerie, but it's also robust and captivating—perfect for enticing bodies to move on a warehouse dance floor.

Next up is "Work That Girl (Tribal Mix)," the heavyweight of the four, tailor-made for the club/warehouse scene. The track starts with the clicking and clacking of hats and snares, Byron's vocals weaving in and out of the mix. The lyrics are crafted for a sweaty night of dancing, and as the kicks thump in, the energy rises. Byron's trademark chords seamlessly ooze into the mix, uniting our bodies with the song. Acid-sounding notes eventually lead us in and out of the groove—a solid club anthem.

Flipping over to Side B, we're greeted by "Inner Visions," where Byron slows things down and takes us in a different direction. A classic synth line initiates the track with a smooth kick, creating an airy vibe that melds perfectly with its melody. As the song grooves, Byron's soulful vocals pierce through, infusing warmth into his words. The warmth persists as the song progresses, with his voice echoing slightly more dissonance, leaving us with a proper vision for the closing track.

Closing out the EP, Byron guides us with a vision for a fun night in "Make Me Feel." Deep with a touch of R&B, the song exudes warmth and is all about feeling good with the person who got you through the night. Byron's sultry voice sits perfectly on the track as the basslines guide us through. His playful nature keeps things light and fun, rounding off the EP on a high note.

On the B-side the title track “Something ’Bout The D“ takes the vibe back to 90s oldschool Detroit inspired house music - spiced with some 909 euphoria, some uplifting chords and a technoid, abstract but soothing melody. Closing out the 12“ on B2 is the much beloved and hard to find Move D contribution to Out To Lunch’s “Airbag Craftworks Vol. 2“ compilation “Marshmellow Boots“. Really glad to welcome on board another great Detroit legend: ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Santonio Echols.

Santonio is member of the first generation of techno producers to emerge from Detroit in the late 1980’s, alongside Eddie Fowlkes, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson and Juan Atkins.
His musical career started in 1987 jointly with Detroit legend Kevin Saunderson as former of the famed duo Reese & Santonio, who are responsible for timeless underground classics "The Sound / How To Play Our Music", "Bounce Your Body To The Box", "Truth Of Self Evidence", which came out on Kevin's KMS Records, and the internationally renowned "Rock To The Beat", which was distributed in 1988 on the UK label FFRR (Full Frequency Range Recordings).
After completing production in England with FFRR, Echols had the confidence to continue his passion for producing techno and house music. He developed a relationship with Paragon Productions and James Pennington aka Suburban Knight and his track “It’s Not Over" was released on the compilation “There’s No Way Out”.
Additionally in 1989 Santonio remixed "Take Me Away" by Bridgette Grace, written by Jeff Mills and T. Srock for Paragon Productions.

From then, his career has been steadily rising: he started DJ’ing when he was 19 years old with his brother Duane Evans in the old school traditions of the West Side of Detroit and never stopped being committed to going to the next level, to the point of being able to perform in Europe in well know clubs such as Tresor Club, with which released also his famour "Clouds Of Thunder" EP, beyond of over 30 releases on labels such Cyren America Records, Express Records, M.I.D. Records (Made In Detroit) and on his own and Kevin Saunderson's Serious Grooves, till to start in 2012 D Records, a vinyl only label, sub label of Chapter 2 Recordings and Cyren America Records, where his latest "Detroit Bounce 2" EP came out a pair of months ago.

In the last years Santonio has worked also with great artists such as Orlando Voorn, DJ Deep, Greg Stafford, Claude Young and friends in music and life such as Blake Baxter, Eddie Fowlkes and Mike Anderson.
