For episode thirty I thought I'd change things up a bit. So far the mix series has been focusing on showcasing DJ's that I enjoy what they are doing at a local level here in Australia along with further abroad too. This is the first mix in the series that I have put together myself the recording from a recent visit to Brisbane Meanjin via a live stream from @QUIVR which is a venue, education facility and livestream location all in one. Well worth checking out if you happen to be in the area.

RecThera Podcast 030 : Drox

Hydroz (aka Hydraulix) is the Miami Electro Bass outfit consisting of AshRock & JimiTheGenius. Together they have been releasing music since the early 2000’s and continue to push their sound till today. Drawing from their childhood influences (2 Live Crew, Debonaire Records, Cut It Up Def Records, MC A.D.E, Dynamix II, etc) to create their own unique hybrid.

With 20+ releases on labels like Kuad, Touching’ Bass, Monotone, Frite Nite, Zone, etc - and currently working on new material set to be released later this year, including a new track in this mix.

For the thirty sixth episode we invite @noisecasino to provide the soundtrack, who hails from Bogota, Columbia and currently based in Berlin. The mix is a melting pot of bass influenced breakbeats, rhythms and grooves staring at a steady 100bpm slowly working with the tempo as the mix progresses, keeping it modern and engaging which is a nice refreshing change from the more high octane sets I have come across of late. 


This was recorded at the @delphiciris Records launch party, a new label I co-own which was recorded at @kimchirecordz in Berlin.
An excellent soundtrack that paired well with the informal afternoon summer vibe of the launch and was a standout on the day (as were all of the guests). Im happy to have a chance to review the track list to dig into some of the excellent producers and labels that are new discoveries to me also.

RecThera Podcast 036 : Noise Casino

I got asked to get a mix together for the ever excellent electronic/electro podcast 'Modulations' by @Agent808...so I thought I'd do something a little different. 
This mix is an homage to that period 1990-1992 when the breakbeat sound morphed into hardcore. House music may have been my first love, but she got well and truly jilted during that period....well, for a while at least!
I think it's wonderful that a new generation of producers are hearing this music and re-interpreting it in new and interesting ways, so there's only one old skool track on this mix, and a modern take on another. 
I do think you'll agree that the spirit is alive and kicking in the rest of this mix. It's an homage to the following venues, parties and DJs that blew my mind weekend after weekend:

Let's just say they need no introduction whatsoever!

Their iconic Soma Records label boasts in excess of 600 releases, hosting McMillan and Meikle's own productions and many of today's most cutting-edge techno artists.

Slam have also remixed tracks from the likes of Planetary Assault Systems, Clouds, Dax J, Damon Wild, Richie Hawtin, and Truncate, to name just a few. Slam also host one of Techno's most respected weekly podcasts, Slam Radio, which is approaching it's 600th episode. Truly remarkable.

Born in Melbourne and currently based in Berlin, Matt has been playing records and hosting events for over 20 years.

Originally a more straight up techno deejay, inspired by the likes of Mills and Garnier; these days Matt likes to traverse the dark line between techno, house, electro and acid music.

His artistry behind the decks is a perfect blend of infectious energy, deep musical knowledge and seamless mixing, expertly reading the room who is equally at home in an intimate club space to an expansive warehouse party.

Here is the recording of my 6ish to 8pm set in the courtyard of the Lord Gladstone Hotel here in Sydney. Summer is in full swing here and I embraced the after work vibe and weather I think. With full GOT Music crew in attendance, collaborating with Electro Mondo for a two room affair, overall it was an excellent vibe with the resident dub siren making a smattering of appearances at various points in the recording. 
The mix includes a bunch of dub experiments, new and old, a fair chunk of b-boy breaks, electronica and classic acid house. I hope you enjoy!

This b2b mix unfolds in 30-minute chunks, blending deep, rounded grooves, otherworldly synths, and lush sunny textures—including a few rare vinyl gems to kick off the year. Drox delivers choice house and Detroit deep cuts, while 16 Faces leans into UK garage, bass, and grimey-tinged flavours.

A soulful, summery ride with just the right amount of grit.

It’s a shift from our usual darker, more pensive sound—but a perfectly timed to the Euro summer on the horizon. Hope you enjoy the selections.

Happy to present my next guest @drox My first guest from Eora/Sydney. Our connection was forged through the love of similar tastes through Soundcloud. Drox is a DJ, live act and producer whose DJing style can be described as heavily influenced by electro, industrial and bass music. His sound embodies a spontaneous charm that nods to early 90s Detroit machine music, rich IDM sounds, and dystopian sci-fi tones.

Drox describes his approach for this mix the idea  to imagine playing to the tail end of an all nighter — last set of the night or morning when people are winding down. 

He included a bunch of records he'd been slowly collecting together to record a deeper mix like this with some old favourites like Photek, The Connection Machine, Echospace and Basic Channel, some top shelf releases from friends — Albert Chiovenda, Neotex and Simon Mann and a new one from my label by a Berlin based artist Insomanist from the First Light EP that was released this May.
