Brick and Mortar, a contra alto clarinet trio, showcases the contra alto clarinet's brilliance as both an accompaniment and solo instrument. The first movement begins with a rhythmically consistent theme, highlighting the power of the instrument's lower register. This is followed by a somber and intimate second movement that utilizes the contra alto clarinet's silky upper register. The third movement concludes the work with an intense rhythmic pattern that supports a melody passed among all three voices.

A three-movement piece for soprano saxophone and piano, Interests highlights the instrument’s unique timbre and capabilities. Starting with a stately, canonic first movement entitled “Mass Movement,” we hear an intertwined melody that moves throughout both parts. This is followed by an emotional second movement, “Sunset Reflections On The Window Pane,” that shifts between two main themes, and concludes with a hectic and energetic third movement, “A Philosophical Exchange.” Interests brings both performer and listener to a variety of emotional states.

"The River" for oboe, English horn, & piano, traces the life of a river through sound. The opening bursts with energy as the oboe and English horn weave rapid playful lines above flowing piano textures, evoking the river’s youthful twists and turns. The middle section is tranquil and temperate , reflecting the river's serene nature as the waters ease into a whisper. Gentle melodies and soft harmonies create a sense of stillness and introspection. In the final section the pace returns with renewed force. Spirited rhythms and surging motion suggest rapids and the river's unstoppable journey toward the sea.

This piece is the perfect selection for a double reed recital or chamber music performance. With three unique movements, Subsequential Motivation presents both performers and audience members with a new and welcome addition to the double reed repertoire.

Composer's notes about the piece : Movement 1, "Creation Encompassed," plays with the consistency of time and the elasticity of creation. The piano maintains a relentless pulse and a fluctuating theme that is at once celebratory, somber, and reflective. The flute manipulates the theme of a repeating sixteenth note followed by a dotted eighth-note pattern.
The second movement, "The Playful Spirit," is a brief, fast-paced movement. It reminds the listener of the intense and childlike nature of humanity, with a dance-like and erratic character.
The final movement, "Tidal Shifts," is a commentary on our planet's oceans, the life within them, and their dependence on the moon and the universe. I explored several key concepts in this movement, which resulted in multiple themes weaving in and out. The concluding section is an homage to the opening theme from "Creation Encompassed." I wanted the piece to end with a sense of incompleteness, emphasizing that these enormous spiritual and physical realities that we exist within will continue long after our ability to comprehend them or witness them for ourselves.
