Perc Trax’s 2nd and final sub-label launches with a release as special as it is unique. Pairing boss man Perc with industrial legends Einstürzende Neubauten to provide a link between the current cutting edge wave of techno/industrial fusionists and one of the true cornerstones of first generation of industrial trail-blazers.

Einstürzende Neubauten innovated both musically with their philosophy that any sound can be incorporated into a composition and also their DIY mentality, an attitude shared by similarly groundbreaking UK artists such as Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire. Now Perc takes the dub-mixes from Neubauten’s 1981 album ‘Kollaps’, a release mentioned many time by Wells as one of the key influences on his trademark sound, reworking the source material to add a contemporary touch which is respectful whilst showcasing this classic material in a new light. Serving up everything from echo-soaked dub workouts to sonically and physically imposing percussive assaults this is Perc at his most innovative, open-minded and confrontational.

The collaboration between Einstürzende Neubauten and Perc will start and end with this EP. There will be no follow up releases making this release even more intriguing. The EP was mastered by UK mastering engineer of the year Matt Colton at Alchemy in London and the striking artwork is by long time Perc Trax collaborator Jonny Costello.

“In transition.” “In transit,” she quipped. “Always together, even when apart.” On that note he turned to her, all serious and sullen. “I want you to know this,’ he went on. “What we shared has forever changed me, and disrupted the world around us, for a while. I will wear your sweet-saline kiss eternal. All I ask...” He paused, hesitantly. “...Is that you take a little part of me with you too.”

Despite the watery divide between them, Brooklyn-bound Greg Schappert and London-based Tom Russell have fostered a production partnership as Donor / Truss for the last six years, emerging today as one of techno’s more robust and hardworking duos. As solo artists they’ve racked up notable releases between them on labels like Stroboscopic Artefacts, Perc Trax and Our Circula Sound, outside of Schappert’s own Miniscule imprint. Meanwhile Russell has been stepping out as the acid-charged MPIA3, lately flexing a ‘less is more’ approach with outings on Avian and R&S.
For Grey Series 05 they don the Donor / Truss moniker once again after a spell apart, proving themselves as accomplished and unpredictable as ever with the fully formed ‘Aber’. On the A-side swampy techno is bruised with house in “Spacial”, turning soupy on the sluggish and barely rippling “Beneath”. Fidgety “Ease” then does an about turn on the B-side before plunging headlong into swollen substrata stuff on the close.

Sawf, Perc Trax’s most mysterious artist returns to the label he calls home after EP’s for Modal Analysis, Audio Assault and M-Rec. This is his first new material for Perc Trax since his well received album ‘Flaws’ in 2011 and shows him introducing new influences to his trademark grinding, industrial sound.

First up is title track Menete, built around a 16th note synth line that recalls everything from classic EBM to more modern synth-led techno such as the recent Sleeparchive EP on Tresor.  Closing the a-side is Toolio, a far too modest title for a track that is far from a disposable techno tool.  An expert exercise in building percussion, this is closest to the sound people know from Sawf, but the best example of it yet.

Opening up the b-side is a remix from Yuji Kondo; know best for his work under both his own name and as half of Steven Porter on Semantica. The remix is everything you’d expect from Yuji. A wall of broken-beat noise topped off by cut up vocals samples and a fluid, ever-changing arrangement. Closing the 12” is ‘Diin’. A deeper, almost house-like cut from Sawf, building on a probing bass guitar line, proving he can do subtle and atmospheric as well as he does tough and confrontational.
