DUDJ Mix Series 023: Käse

The 24th instalment in the DUDJ mix series is now live! Our equipment member Elias aka Chungy delivered an energetic mix to start the year right with DUDJ.

Banging bongos, infectious bass lines, and  trad beats can be expected, though his eclectic selection in the mix goes beyond this into occasional chugging IDM beats seamlessly transitioning into world dance sounds. Featuring tracks from Afro Celt Sound System, Cain, Sleep Dee, and Hunee, you’re in for a good time with this one.

DUDJ Mix Series 024: Chungy

The three Bs: breaks, basslines, & bangers. This is the sound of the 26th instalment of our mix series, brought to you by Louis Clarke. The mix features a healthy dose of some of the filthiest wubs we have heard over here at DUDJ HQ in a long time, at times offset by dreamy pads and vocals that sound like they were ripped straight out of some sesh gaff in Croydon to deliver you from the monotony of your boring degree. 

Crank the A/C for this one, it’s designed to make you move with tracks from artists such as Special Request, Diemantle, Samurai Breaks, & Bakey. Louis manages to carefully splice the eclectic sounds of his selection into a mix with depth & a flow which builds the energy in a seamless fashion. The mix finishes off with a healthy dose of jungle & dnb carnage to get the last finger guns and skanking out of you through a healthy dose of chopped amens.

The 25th mix in our DUDJ mix series by Asa Nisi Masa is now live. A spicy selection of tunes ranging from ambient, downtempo, noise, and leftfield dance is on the menu and we are loving it. The mix traverses an eclectic sonic palette in a seamless manner. 
At times haunting, dreaming, and reverent Asa Nisi Masa’s selection, featuring artists such as Tim Hecker, Autechre, The Body, and Silver Mt. Zion, has created a universe you can’t help but become immersed in when listening to the mix.

French philosopher Georges Bataille once remarked: “I believe that truth has only one face: that of a violent bass and drum combo.”
The tone of the 27th mix by Sandy is filled with club heavy sounds, bringing out some of the finest contemporary Irish and UK underground dance sounds and wubs. 

Can you imagine a world without heavy bass sounds drenched in reverb and dubbed with top layers of riddims and airy pads? We couldn’t either, thankfully Sandy has delivered the goods, to deliver us from the banality of our existence with sounds that will force you to jump out of your chair at once and skank around in your room like a bellend.

Some of the tunes will make you want to commit seditious acts (acts which we can’t necessarily endorse here at DUDJ HQ, but might at least turn a blind eye to). The police siren that can be heard at 16:50 is because the beats are borderline illegal.
It is hard to construct a mix which moves between many subgenres smoothly while simultaneously ramping up the energy in an organic fashion. Sandy, however, carefully curates the sounds of artists such as Tim Reaper (big ups), Prozak, Sully, Van Wilkins, & Roaming Data.

DUDJ Mix Series 027: Sandy

The 28th instalment in our mix series is finally here and it is brought to you by S-Agenda.

The release timing is perfect with clubs reopening this week, she has put together a delicious mix filled with club-oriented, dance-inspiring sounds. 
Whether it’s icy pads and cavernous percussion, or squelching acid lines overdubbed with distorted drums and breaks, the mix radiates and reflects everything a club mix should be.

She has not confined the mix to one sound, instead there is an expert precision in fusing genres and seamless manoeuvring across the spectrum of 4x4 dance music.

DUDJ Mix Series 028: S-Agenda

Mix 29 in our series is brought to you by selector extraordinaire Gump Mode! As an integral member of the Shed Residents collective, he brings a passion for speedy beats together with an ear for melody and well-timed suspense. There is much to be said for fast techno but typing this is giving me carpal tunnel syndrome so I will refrain from doing so. 
Rolling stompers are of course to be expected anywhere you see the name Gump Mode – step into his world for an hour and hear the cavernous sounds at the forefront of no-frills hard techno.

DUDJ Mix Series 029: GUMP MODE

Mix number 30 in the DUDJ mix series is finally live! DJ Boyfriend brings an hour of contemplative ambient and bedroom beats to the table for a breath of fresh air here at DUDJ HQ. Just because the sun is gone doesn’t mean you have to do away with the bliss of neglecting assignments. The mix’s sonic palette is one of sonder, introspection, and lush arrangements. 
I say this for every mix but prepare to be transported by the airy synths and ethereal Foley sounds that would warm even the coldest selekta’s heart. There’s even like violins and stuff at one point it’s beautiful. Bet you weren’t expecting that from the DUDJ massif. 
This is something we haven’t heard in quite some time and is a marked change from the usual output of our mix series so be sure to give it a listen!

DUDJ Mix Series 030: DJ Boyfriend

Mix 31 in our series by Sahana Desert is finally here. We first met Sahana at the start of the year and she has since played at a few of our gigs, proving herself to be a fantastic selector. This mix packs a punch from start to finish. Expect no nonsense breaks, thick basses, and a healthy assortment of stretched out vocals.
If this doesn’t get you finger gunning and 2-stepping while “studying” in the Lecky, you may be beyond salvation. I found myself saying WOIII several times while listening not sure what I can say to entice you to listen other than that.

DUDJ Mix Series 032: DJ Get Luc(y)

If life is a highway then Mix 33 from Joe Pickles is the Autobahn: Blue Mitsubishi locked in and rolling. High octane rhythms meet the crunchiest of kicks, a timeless combo that brings high energy from the outset. The mix kicks off on a euphoric tip with peak time vocal         slammers sidewinding into each other at breakneck speed. Pickles then moves it into 5th gear with stunning hardgroove rollers that pepper the ears with tribal percussion and old school stabs. 
The brief M1 organ that comes in around halfway sent me places and had me shouting insiiiide in my kitchen, as if Berlin had met Sheffield in the briefest of trysts. This moment of peace in a sea of thumping rollers is the dream of all DJs: to capture the ineffable - a feat Pickles carries out with ease. Last but not least tasteful sprinkles of breaky and bassy electro round off a belter of a mix. Perfect for my Tokyo drifters, this latest addition to our series keeps it fast and furious.

DUDJ Mix Series 033: Joe Pickles

Laurenz’s offering is an all-out breaks affair touching on strands of hardcore, electro, jungle and dnb – an impressive feat in just over 45 minutes. It launches straight in with some really nice old school breaks embracing the hardcore continuum – it really will never die! A stunning selection of properly percussive breakbeats slot into each through tight phrasing that weaves through acid, baile and other tasty bassbin business. Playful samples keep the momentum varied and the listener locked in on this drum journey special.
 
Pushing through some breaky 140 tribal techno not out of place in a bufo set we head into 160 realms before the unmistakeable Vivaldi-esque mandolin strings of perhaps 2021’s biggest jungle track career into focus. Baroque made Jungle à la Sully. Such a track never fails to lift a dancefloor and here it stirs the very fabric of the soul: Jungle ex Machina if you will. Winding it down, Laurenz ends on a more sultry note with LTJ Buckem style drums recalling that classic ’96 liquid sound. Beautiful stuff!

This new mix from Jeff captures the euphoria I felt on seeing Avatar 3D in 2009 at the cinema: It’s a high I’m still chasing. This excellent offering of hypersonic trance, deep groove techno and ravey electro with just the right amount of nostalgia, had me hurtling through the nether regions of space towards undiscovered worlds. Exquisite phrasing makes this riot of sounds the smoothest of journeys - this is the sort of stuff you could vogue to all day.

A particularly rude bit at 15 mins had me moving mad on O’Connell street as hypnotic rhythms were breached by ruthless electro breaks: proper cinematic stuff. Hyperdrive engaged once more, the hard techno/trance fusion train resumes its route, tasteful sprinkling of vocals leaving the ears enamoured by those lovely kickdrums and stabs. All in all, a fantastic way to kick off your Monday; lock into those grooves!

Neo cortex blesses your eardrums this week with an old skool sound blending elements of hardgroove, techno and acid. 
The mix features tracks from Sella, Dylan Fogarty and  Bailey Ibbs and is certain to get you moving with its fast paced drums and melodics.


Neo Cortex has only been mixing since august but has already played at several ents events and usually plays alongside production tutorials officer Oisin MacCann under the name mac n cheese. Last week they made their somewhere else debut so keep an eye on their instagram for upcoming gigs!

DUDJ Mix Series 007: Síofra

Next up for our now-famous DUDJ Mix Series is a man who needs no introduction but we'll do it anyways...

Tadhg O'Míocháin was Chair of our fabled society in the 2018/19 academic year and has left himself a legacy that most of our members could only dream of. He's now studying a Masters in Trinity in the geographical sciences.

Tadhg, under his leadership, transformed the society from the WaftSoc and Hawaiian Shirt days of the mid 2010s to making DUDJ undeniably the COOLEST and CLASSEST cunts on campus - opening us up to broader and more forward-thinking ideas and people. 

Tadhg has likely played more DUDJ slots over the years than anyone else currently enrolled in Trinity, and some of these classic T'OM vibes are brought out in full force this mix with tunes from Joy Orbison, Boddika and Phillip George, harkening back to the halcyon days of DUDJ at Berlin d2 on a cold Tuesday evening in 2017.

This also is Tadhg's first mix under his new 'Burnout' alias for his forthcoming productions and mixes - which serves to explore and paint the many shades of hardcore through the mediums of bass, breaks, downtempo, jungle and all round tuff shit. This is highlighted by his one of a kind mixing style and in his future-yet-retro selections littered throughout the mix from Peder Mannerfelt, Detboi Machinedrum, and more. 

You'd be mad to sleep on this.

DUDJ Mix Series 012: Soozy

Jack Martin is someone that we've kept on our radar for a while now - although the Trinity Music student has more of reputation on campus and in the city at large for his aptitudes on ACTUAL instruments (unlike us disc-spinning, talentless hacks over at DUDJ HQ), as well as his whirlwind livesets, Jack can also tick off DJing off on his seemingly endless list of skills, as evidenced in exemplary fashion in his contribution to our Mix Series. 

Weaving in between electronica, hip hop, and club music - from artists that live in worlds as disparate as FKA Twigs, Madvillian, Aphex Twin, JPEGMAFIA, Dave and Vegyn - Jack's mix is definitely one for the headphones and the perfect companion to accompany the seeing out of sunsets towards the end of summer.
