Satin Sheets was a popular country hit song written by John Volinkaty and first recorded by Bill Anderson and Jan Howard on their March 1972 duet album, Bill & Jan or (Jan & Bill). It was then famously covered by American country music artist Jeanne Pruett in February 1973 as the first single and title track from her album of the same name. The song was Pruett's only Number One country hit, as well as her only chart entry on the Billboard Hot 100.
Nat & I were asked by Jerry Madden if we would collaborate on this classic cover and we were all too happy to do so. Jerry shows his tasty guitar playing throughout and we thank him for giving us the opportunity to join him here.

Working with Hans is always an inspiring process.  The music relationship both Gal and myself have formulated with him over the last few years has never grown stale, because he is so endlessly innovative when interpreting the songs we regularly wing over to his studio in Hamburg.  By contrast, what we say to each other on these occasions is always the same.  “It’ll be nothing like we’re expecting” is our mantra and, sure enough, what comes back never is.  His arrangements are always - and I do mean always - so much better than anything we could possibly have imagined.

It was during what has become a regular exchange of emails that Hans said something which became the inspiration for this song.  He runs his own company, in what could be described as both a creative but stressful industry - advertising.  Not so long ago, his frustrations with certain clients was getting under his skin, feeling that far too often he was wasting his time and energy on those who supplanted boldness and enthusiasm for unnecessary worry and reservation. “It takes loop after loop after loop of needless discussion which means nothing really happens…”, was how he put it.  Having had to tolerate many similar frustrations during my working life - I’d  retired some years before due to ill health - I knew precisely how he must be feeling.

His cri de cœur of “Loop after loop after loop” stuck in my mind and the next time I picked up my guitar, strumming random chords in the way I often do, these were the words I sang.  So this song for my wonderful friend Hans is from the heart and one I hope will bring a quantum of solace for all he is forced to tolerate in his working life.
