Rising Argentinian label LOGIA Records reaches its season finale with “Velocity”, an essential 8-track EP by none other than Alex Aguayo (FREEDL038 as Mahkina) in collaboration with m i l l o, who jumped in with some post-punk overtones and Dark Disco influences to deliver “Broken”, the fourth and last but not least original of the release. Insightful remixes made with love by BT COP, Playa Del Carma, Corresponsal, and Celestino (SXDNS009) provide the icing on the cake.

If Logia is closing its 2021 activities, the same cannot be said of Alex. The Mexican producer has been having an extremely busy year so far: His originals and collaborations appeared on vital Indie Dance labels such as HEARec, Espacio Cielo, Paradiso, Boite Music, Emerald & Doreen, Odd Pleasure, Nein, Mélopée, NUFF, among others, and it is extremely possible something else will pop up before we can say “Happy 2022”. 

Premiered here, the title track, with its 119 BPM, is not as fast as its name suggests but is definitely one of the highlights of the EP. The bouncing bassline, energetic guitar-like synth layer, and melodic leads bring to life a must-have piece. It pairs perfectly with packed and filthy dance floors.

You may already know this one… We lock-in the first reload of our burgeoning story so far with a return to Darlyn Vlys’s ‘Wuzu’. Previously featured on the second V/A ‘Muy Duro’ EP, it’s loaded with an instantly recognisable desert-bound vocal, a warm undulating bassline and that perfect balance between space and tribal intensity. And now it’s loaded with a new original and remixes, too…

‘Arrival’ is brand new material from the rising Spanish artist. Perfect for big entrances and mix intros, once again Vlys has nailed that balance between the space aged and tribal with its staccato voodoo voices and purring, velvet machine prowess.

Remix-wise Disco Sentimento founder Tyu strips back ‘Wuzu’ for a woozy percussive twist while Modular Project add a whole new layer of bassline space dust to their remix of ‘Arrival’. Both complement Vlys’s originals, his hip-slinking hypnotic signature and the label’s ever-flourishing remit perfectly.

We expect we’ll hear more from Darlyn on Duro very very soon ...

Last March we’ve been lucky to have him featured on Lost Tapes Vol. 3 (Pt. I) with his ‘Computer Controlled Drum Rhythm’. Now Jepe will finally release his first solo EP on AEON. 
The Berlin-based Portuguese producer and DJ has created an uplifting yet nostalgic EP including three originals and a remix by Johannes Albert. The Restless Soul EP began to shape during last spring, as Jepe was roaming between enjoying sunsets on Kreuzberg’s Admiralbrücke and the white sandy beach of his hometown, Aveiro.  
The first track ‘Congo Bongo Acid’ is an, at times, trippy combination of 80s inspired synths and an electro drumatronic Congo pattern. Following the opening track, ‘Reasonable Doubts’ feels a bit more sunny thanks to a combination of luminous synth arrangements. However, some parts of the song make you reasonably doubt the truthfulness of the ecstatic melodies. Lastly, ‘Restless Soul’ reflects just that with its urgent bassline that leaves hardly any time to breathe. With some delirious keys embracing you, you find yourself listening to disco disguised as house, driving your convertible on a Los Angeles Highway.
To complete The Restless Soul EP, AEON invited Johannes Albert to remix the record’s title track. The Berlin-based honcho of Frank Music is never shy to add a soothing melodic touch to the mix, taking ‘Restless Soul’ on an acid- driven tour to the dancefloor.
Altogether, a versatile set of tracks delivered by the forward-thinking German label.

Despite the challenges and weirdness of the year, boundary-blazing bandoleros Duro (@durolabel) continue to shoot through 2020, all-pistols-blazing. Releases have fired from all corners but one of the strongest themes has been the ‘Muy Duro’ volumes. The Mexican label’s flagship V/A series, each EP digs deep into the dark disco psyche, celebrating the label’s widest sonic outposts and reference points with friends and shared spirits from across the world, old and new. Marking a year of the series, with tracks from Israel to Istanbul, ‘Muy Duro Volume 5’ is certainly no exception.

Veteran cosmic groover Tim Paris makes his long-awaited debut with the slouching funk and broken drum swagger of ‘Better Slightly Unchanged’ before two more collaborations join the party with their Duro debuts, all hailing from Israel; Middle Sky Boom and AckerMan whisk us through the stars on ‘Temp Goes High’ while Rina X Benji pay homage to mind alteration on the electroid bumps and asteroid grinds of ‘Koshmaro’.

Professional belly dancers and long-time friends of Duro Hanzo & Yaman follow with ‘Hokus Pokus’. A springy, playful slab of house music laced with pitched bells and a riser that teases and teases, there’s a late 90s/early 200s mischief to this that, like the label itself, just won’t quit. 

The final word comes from the label bossman Theus Mago (@theusmago) and French brother-in-arms Id!r (@idir-wm)… And that word is techno. Deep bleeps and endless pulsations, ‘Soft Light’ is an epic moment of pure late night hedonism that sits somewhere between Bobby Peru and Plastikman. Blazing boundaries and still fully loaded, the Duro bandoleros keep on shooting.
