Back on Soma with an almighty bang, legendary producer Funk D’Void returns with his first original, solo material in 7 years with Pepis. Forever held in the highest of regards, Lars Sandberg is one of the most influential DJs/Producers to come from the early ranks of Soma’s roster with a glowing list of past credits. With his latest offering, Pepis, FdV ups his game even more and delivers a rocking house track, soaked in his signature style. The EP is further bolstered by a jacked up remix from Boys Noize’s Strip Steve and things take a heavier edge as Miki Craven turns in a banging Techno remix. 

Kicking off a straight up party vibe, Lars’ bouncing percussion keeps the groove as lazer like stabs and pads sweep though over the top of the track’s infectious, melodic lead. Going into the break, Lars uses a perfectly toned sample that gives Pepis a real summer vibe dropping the drums to devastating effect. This track is a shining example of Funk D’Void’s intimate knowledge of what will immediately funk up a dance floor. 

French born, Berlin based Strip Steve steps up with his remix next and immediately hits the ground running. Picking up the pace a little compared to the original he adds a more ‘Chicago’ feel to the tracks, chopping up the lead and bringing more of a jacking feel to the percussion. Quirky breaks in the drums keep the track flowing nicely as claps and snares flourish with woodblocks giving it that old school feel.

Miki Craven polishes off the EP with a completely stripped back Techno version. Big heavy subs and kicks are the order of business here as a pretty punishing loop belts out from the beginning. Miki works some of the vocal cuts that hover around the backbone of the tracks as cutting high-end percussion keeps the track rattling. Miki lightens things momentarily as he works in the original stabs whilst keeping his version in the Techno tool division. 

Nothing makes us smile more than having one of the greatest names in Soma’s history making his comeback and showing why he will always be held in hearts and dance floors across the world.

@MindTripRec does it again, which to be honest is expected, when the lavish label is ran by none other than the force named Pfirter (@info-52) with his own works released on Chris Liebing’s CLR to Lucy’s Stroboscopic Artefacts just for starters.

The next release is a back to back effort compiled with 2 originals from Tripeo and @Simon-Haydo, whilst the remixes are supplied by @JuhoKusti (one half of Deep Space Helsinki with Samuli Kemppi) and the ever consistent @Jonas-Kopp.

It is however a slight detour from Jonas Kopp‘s usual offerings for this DT:Premiere, harder, intense and pretty full throttle from the off. His rework of “Contortions” has a refined intensity that is met by deep, sweeping atmospherics and a sonic barrage of modular/acid chimes that lure you in, before launching some filtered and relentless snare and hat patterns.

As a now respected veteran of Germany’s techno scene, Emerson struck a chord with multilayered techno; enriched in quality and indicative of his synthetic electronic style. Founder of the esteemed Kiddaz.fm & Micro.fon imprints, he has opened the door and brought driving techno from its barren lands to a new territory built upon groove and bounce.
With releases on CLR, Nonlinear Systems, Desolat and AnaylticTrail Emerson has moved through the last decade unearthing a fledging reputation as a turn-to-producer for those who love a gutfull of groove despite how driving and hard faced the music may be.
As a young DJ and producer Emerson started out in South Germany, tinkering through various clubs before getting a break at Munich’s legendary second Utraschall Club, that led to a nationwide tour with the respected Tanith & Timing Recordings Crew. Subsequently, opportunities arose with several major clubs in Germany, before Emerson decided to take his sound abroad to the USA, South America, Asia, Ibiza and Eastern Europe amongst others. DJ Emerson is a prolific producer and much loved DJ both in his native Germany and across the globe. The positive response to his work inspired Emerson to start kiddaz.fm in 2000, a label which has clocked up over 80 releases, selling more than 100,000 vinyls in the process.
His underground cuts such as Anonymous and Audiopot as still manage to twist handfuls of percussion and melody around a more industrial tech house backbone etching his name into the collective consciousness of worldwide techno followers. Emerson is without doubt part of a pedigree of underground artists vastly aware of a changing German music scene that sees him deliver his gritty beats and analogue architecture to dancefloors with ease.

Bjarki just dropped the first part of a 41 track archive released over three LPs... whatever you do, don't call it an album. The three LP's will instead represent a snapshot of his genre-defying archive.  The three LPs aren’t albums in the traditional sense - the concept was simply to release the contents of his burgeoning hard drives. 

The first part of the three part archive is cyrillic for "B" and although all the tracks are solid, there is one that stood out to us in particular. "The Lover That You Are" kicks off with some ethereal pads and filtered down percussion that slowly begins to reveal itself in full as the resonance gets turned up to eleven to suddenly drop you into a break-heavy moody Techno banger. One of the best qualities of this track is how skilfully it plays with tension and release and honestly we can't get enough of it. Now that we are firmly underway into our second year, it's time to celebrate Second State's family vibes as we bring you the sophomore installment of our annual HUB release. This year we have Clint Stewart taking the helm and over the course of four collaborative tracks with The Reason Y, Michael Klein, Stephan Hinz and of course Pan-Pot, the American displays his prowess for creating powerful, emotive dance floor cuts.

Kicking things off in grand fashion, the EP starts with the alliance of Clint and the boss men Pan-Pot on a massive tune entitled "Zau!" featuring the insanely talented Portuguese percussionist, Peter Xoben, and the inimitable artist Luio Onassis who graced us with his signature artwork for this release. After a chance encounter in Berlin a year ago, Clint met up with Peter and Luio for an impromptu recording session that would later go on to become Zau! after Pan-Pot heard an early working session. With rapid fire blasts of Peter Xoben's drums laid over a captivating groove, the track grows with intensity as deep sonic blasts of low end rumbles and sharp rhythmic hooks engross the aural space.

Soon, wildly unforgettable bursts of neural jabs begin to play a game of call and response with the existing elements as lush, rising pads install a relentless tension of ecstatic proportions to absolutely demolish any dance floor scenario. Following up "Zau!" is Clint and Stephan Hinz who after last years hugely successful HUB collaboration "Shimmer" are back with another incredibly heady tune, aptly titled "Fall To Earth".

Spanning spaces somewhere between deep, euphoric and driving the guys deliver an exquisite "nail biter", testing patience only to deliver a huge pay off of lush strings, melodic bass lines and stirring melodies carried by a heaving groove perfect for those intimate moments.

Embarking into the second half of the release we see Clint team up with Michael Klein to drop what could be the heaviest and most psychedelic tune of the release. 'Artifacts' is a white knuckle ride from beginning to end. Fast paced, swirling arps, unrelenting percussive builds, malevolent jabs and truly hefty roars of bass set the stage for what can only be described as a 'Draconian' opus of epic breadth transcending time and space. Wrapping up the collaborative release is Clint's pairing with Berlin duo The Reason Y for an uplifting ride on 'Aubade Flares'.

Persistent and unyielding grooves lay the foundation as abrasive yet opulent tones partner with rich low end which continually grow before rising to a fever pitch. As the vitality gets to be almost unbearable, a wash of dreamy, intoxicated strings bring it all together into a grandiose symphony of gorgeous harmonics. As heard over the course of these four collaborative HUB tracks, the comradery of the Second State crew is organically becoming more and more solidified and that was always the plan, yet it has past all our original expectations, and we think you will agree.
