My friends!! ...please enjoy my sunrise set from Disorient at Burning Man 2013.  The man had just burnt and the playa was at his highest capacity ever.  The set began in the darkness and the sun came up right around 2:08:00...and if you listen close enough, you can hear the one-more-song chant that broke out around 2:47:00.  

I want to personally thank Disorient for having me and for the amazing people who danced along...your energy was the best medicine.

To be honest, it's criminal that New Jersey native, Flamingosis, hasn't made a Boiler Room appearance yet. The now Brooklyn-based producer has been on our radar for a while, most notably via Sean Keating's regular office stereo plays — this year's future funkified 'Bright Moments' and the hazy brilliance of 'Pleasure Palette' from 2015 especially.

Both of those releases nonchalantly tread the tightrope between hip hop and disco/funk; often smooth and late summer afternoon-themed with the analogue punch of boom bap.

As he's noted in his description, this 50min blend comes after a similalry warm experience in more ways than one. Upfront 089 is blessed with incredible music that is custom-made for afternoon and late evenings spent horizontal. Gritty funk/rap knockers are shock absorbed by downtempo (sometimes saxophone-laced) jams from Flamingosis and his clearly talented group of friends.

It was Monday midday and I had just pulled out of the Burning Man desert. I turned on my phone and the first notification was from my agent: “You think you can make it to Buenos Aires this Saturday? They want you at the Bow!” ...and just like that, one week after I played my yearly Bubbles & Bass sunrise, I was on a plane heading to Argentina.

Buenos Aires has very quickly become one of my favorite audiences in the world and I have no doubt that I will continue to play there for years to come. And even though I was there again back in January, I wanted to commemorate my first time by releasing this set, live from The Bow, September 18th 2018.

Lovers of Music! Here we go again, this time with a 2,5 hour live set I played at AfrikaBurn earlier this month. Being at AfrikaBurn is always such a highlight of the year for me. Being there with people I love and then playing for a crowd who really likes what I am doing! (Lucky me ;-)) This year I played for the Leopard Mafia on Wednesday and on Thursday for the Space Cowboys. The week before I played at another sold out Suikerbossie in Cape Town (thanks to Caroline/Karen to make that happen again). So I already had a nice warm-up for the South African crowd. I never have expectations before I play somewhere because I always want to go all-in with a blank mind. And so I did on this trip as well. But knowing what the crowd and atmosphere was the years before I always feel very excited to bring some nice pieces of music with me. Please listen yourself what happened during this sunset set. After ‘Follow The Sun’ we went into nighttime mode and although the temperature dropped my heart was heated by the love and happy faces I saw in front of me. Hasta La Vista and till next time! The Chaos EP

I'm happy to release this new studio mix for you. I've been releasing mixes much less frequently these days - I used to be on a monthly cadence, but I started working on this mix in July.

Counterintuitively, it gets increasingly harder for me to finish studio mixes, even though I think I'm a better mix-maker now. Sure, the newly added demands of touring, music production, event production, running a label, and home life all pull away from the time needed to complete a studio mix. But beyond that, I think there's a bit of an artist/curator's dilemma: the more resolute and refined I evolve in my taste, the harder it is to achieve satisfaction. Every track selection carries an increasingly large weight, every transition is held to a higher standard of detail, and more broadly, I constantly feel compelled to try to say something I haven't sonically said before. Otherwise, what’s the point?

I worked to build tension in the first half of this mix, much like stacking weights on a fragile plate of glass. Inevitably the glass breaks, and in this case, the ‘break’ is a literal one with the 2nd half of the mix inspired by 2-step, drum n bass, and experimental broken beats spiraling out of control.

I had a lot of fun with this one, especially after the glass breaks. Hope you enjoy listening, I hope you hear something from me here that you haven’t heard before.
