@nozagam is a solo project by French experimental-club producer Etienne Zastko who takes a bleak view of a destructive Anthropocene Epoch, in which “utopias can’t exist and we’ve lost our way in our blind devotion to technology”. The album pieces together a chronology of catastrophic events. A fictionalized soundtrack to humankind’s end-cycle. The abrasive textures and suffocating atmosphere immerse us into a total universe where everything that could have gone wrong has. Affirmations and tech bro optimism didn’t quite cut it. And if those disembodied voices that sporadically reach out are the survivors, that’s not good news.

The visual aesthetic of Zagam is one of fusion, a medieval plague doctor mask with a 23rd-century twist. “Anthropocene” mines a similarly disparate set of influences, spanning an evermore hybridized clubspace. Gqom, grime, industrial techno, footwork: everything is fair game. The rich musical background and hard sonic palette of Zagam make for a perfect match for the hybrid electronics approach of Unizone.

Pounding traditional drums and grinding synths herald Dawn, the new album from post-industrial Tokyo duo IN THE SUN, their first release on Chinabot.

Dawn was inspired by the musical traditions and wild mountain landscapes of composer TIDEPOOL’s childhood in rural Japan. Layers of ethereal synthesizers and wailing saxophones by Kim Pueru evoke the mist and granite of mountains are beaten with rhythms that hit like shattering rocks.

The record “embodies a fusion of synthetic and percussive elements, evoking both mysticism and raw energy,” says TIDEPOOL. “The juxtaposition of dystopian undertones and the resilience of nature serves as a thematic backdrop, reflecting on societal shifts and personal introspection.”

Dawn’s instrumentation may be inspired by Japanese taiko drums and African percussion, but it remains extremely contemporary, with swirling rhythms of singeli, juke, footwork, gabber, and minimal to create an evil cacophony. The album also nods to the GORGE movement, which is experiencing a resurgence in Japan.

TIDEPOOL describes the record as an “epic poem.” This is evident on Twilight, where urgent synths and nimble per- cussion makes you wonder what Akira would have looked like set in on a mountain range instead of in Tokyo.

On Voidance, bells, drums and saxophone are whipped up onto a violent stormwhich builds and crashes repeatedly, a powerful statement of intent from one of Tokyo’s most exciting contemporary acts.

Organized by TIDEPOOL since 2011, IN THE SUN has a fluid lineup, with Kim Pueru joining on tenor saxophone for Dawn. TIDEPOOL utilizes ethnic drums, synthesizers, and laptops and is influenced and inspired by artists such as Haruomi Hosono, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Throbbing Gristle, Geinoh Yamashirogumi, CAN, among others.
They supported Baltimore duo Matmos during their Japan tour and organized the party known as “RAW TEMPO” at Bushbash.

The album CLEMENCY holds exceptional significance for CHARITY SsB, as it represents not only a music collection but also his bold venture and evolution in the realm of music production. This album signifies his transformation from a rapper into a versatile music producer. Moreover, it marks his first formal album after years of collaboration with the renowned Shanghai electronic music label GENOME 6.66 Mbp.

CLEMENCY comprises ten diverse tracks, each capturing CHARITY SsB's life reflections and musical insights at various points in time. From 2020's Only One and The Meaning of Life to Wood House and Zhuangzi created during Shanghai's lockdown in 2022, these tracks span several years, showcasing his creative depth and rich emotional world.

The album's title, CLEMENCY, embodies a profound philosophy. CHARITY SsB believes that in a world filled with desire, conflict, and war, and within the complexities of societal systems, music is a divine gift of mercy and solace to humanity. Music creation is his sole pathway to experiencing true freedom and spiritual liberation. It holds significant meaning in his life, serving as his soul's sanctuary and the pillar of his spirit.

Many tracks in the album, such as the nearly ten-minute-long Wood House and the ambient-rich Courier, display intricate segment connections and rich musical layers. These songs resemble unique journeys, with each journey offering distinct life meanings. Through these musical works, CHARITY SsB conveys his profound insights into life and his boundless passion for music. To him, music is like a utopia of the spiritual world, providing him with endless solace and inspiration.

Based in Santiago, Chile, the label WeTransa, run by Syntrovert and Martin.PDF, appeared a little more than a year ago with their debut release called Primera Transa, produced by the founders themselves. The characteristic format of the label consists of EP outings made of three tracks composed by two different artists, seeking to establish a virtual and possibly physical connection between different projects and scenes that gravitate in the realm of club-oriented music. WeTransa, publishing digital albums in the pay-what-you-want download form, especially focuses on emerging producers searching for further opportunities to be known and have their message heard.

The second entry in the Chilean outcome, accordingly called Segunda Transa, sees the Chilean-raised, Berlin-based producer Sebastian Saavedra-Reib aka VHS Afrika join efforts with the Argentinian Rodrigo Nicolás Núñez aka KRXNX from San Miguel de Tucumán. The former, influenced by the sounds of his childhood spent in Zanzibar, started dabbling in electronic music at early ages - first meddling with a battery-powered keyboard with local rhythmic presets - to then move on to acid techno and other fringes of electronic music, up to the release of their genre-bending debut EP ººNaavigation Systaamºº which saw the light in June 2020.

The latter is instead a multidisciplinary artist and self-taught musician who started sharing his music outings on the Internet, set on forcing the restrictive boundaries of compartmentalized music genres in the Argentinan mainstream music community. Their first release called Testimonios Desde el Abismo appeared on the CDMX imprint DNTFCK in May 2020, well-received in the contemporary URL circles due to its futuristic, stunningly intimate, and emotionally variegated take on contemporary, post-club music.

Today, we're very happy to be premiering the third piece of the record: Eudaimonia is a heart-shattering track that starts off with a poignant melody followed up by anguished singing, culminating in the rattling, metallic explosions of the percussive elements that go to define the melancholic yet firm grandeur of the finale. Segunda Transa, mastered by Sky Parnes, will be out on Bandcamp on March 12th: don't miss it!
