"Oubliette and the Devil's Secret" begins as a seemingly ordinary love story but quickly transforms into an epic exploration of archetypal powers and the subconscious drive to survive and love. Oubliette embarks on an extraordinary journey into the depths of Hades, where love, courage, and unexpected revelations collide.

At its core, the story revolves around Oubliette, a brave young girl on a hero's quest to rescue her true love's soul from the dark recesses of Hades. As her marionette counterpart Jack dances across the stage, Oubliette faces daunting trials, battles mythical creatures, navigates treacherous terrain, and confronts the formidable forces guarding the underworld, all in her pursuit to strike a deal with Lucifer to save Jacks soul. The audience is drawn into a gripping narrative filled with suspense and emotion as they witness this epic clash of wills.

Yet, as Oubliette delves deeper into the underworld, a surprising revelation shakes the very foundations of her mission. Her journey takes an unexpected turn, taking the audience on an emotional rollercoaster ride as they share in Oubliette's newfound insights and revelations.

The stage is adorned with exquisite hand-painted backdrops, each depicting a unique realm from Oubliette's adventure. The show was always performed on a puppetstage altar adornded with flowers by candlelight, with aromatic herbs burning. The marionettes, meticulously carved from wood gathered from symbolic trees, come to life in the skilled hands of puppeteers Chains and Amber. While Amber Amnesia masterfully crafted most of the script, Chains wrote Lufifers speech and takes on the role of narrator and all voices except Oubliette, The Witch (amber) and Jack (Geoff) and delivers a captivating performance.

Every element of this mesmerizing production, including the puppets, backdrops, music, and recording, was painstakingly created by Amber and Chains. Their dedication shines through, despite the challenges of working in a remote off grid cabin in the desolate Mule Mountains of Arizona with minimal equipment demonstrating their commitment to bringing "Oubliette and the Devil's Secret" to life in all its enchanting glory.

Seattle. September 2008.

It was something in the air,
the sea brought us here with the stinging of salt water entering pores.
An aching came upon, stricken with the night.
"Your home," they screamed, "lead us there!"

Confined to wheels, and to smoke,  
streamed a whirlwind of unconscious knowing.
To hold back this rush of love,
to not reveal this parallous flight.

It confines you to me and me to the world
Sit quiet above a fire pit that glows red in the eyes.
Let the waves wash 
every ounce of alcohol into the pit of filtering sand and stone

Voices speaking voices.

Stumble up the cliff to find you, to leave me.
All poured out, frantic sickness leaves the body.
Do not see the glowing eyes of a beast 
staring at the rising chest.

The voices keep on voicing. Losses keep lossing.
The heart sits still, as dawn approaches,

With the release of his debut solo album small flames, Austin-based musical firebrand Dylan Blackthorn shares with us a masterful cache of mysterious & heartfelt accordion-driven songwriting. Truly keeping Austin weird, the album’s 13 tracks roll through the liminal landscapes between apocalyptic love songs, psychedelic blues songs & mystic melancholic folk.  Blackthorn’s first solo effort brings several of Austin’s musical luminaries to the studio, including Dr. $ick of the renowned Squirrel Nut Zippers. These guests lend haunting flute, fiddle & guitar tracks to help evoke a sound that is a bit “left-of-country”.
