Good morning, and welcome to the quietest week of the year. Did you have a good holiday? Before I sign off for the year, I think I’ve got one more gem to share with you. Here's a wonderful label showcase and a reflection on this past year from a lovely independent Valencia-based imprint, Archives, curated and operated by Agustín Mena, aka Warmth. I’ve profiled plenty of its releases since its inception in 2015, and I must admit that Warmth’s Parallel (2018) has been on repeat more than others. If anything, it is only rivalled by Glow, which is his collaboration with Fionnlagh, recently released on December 8th, 2023 (you’ll hear a few tracks on this mix). Music From 2024

This month, we are thrilled to feature a mix from The Visions Reel. The artist behind the project, Adam Jade, is a music producer based in the South West of England whose works delve into cinematic, emotionally-driven electronic music, with an increasing emphasis on intricate melodies and carefully crafted sound design.

With releases on labels such as Kizen, Re:st, and others, Adam also co-runs Captured Visions, a cassette label alongside Tom Barefoot, which focuses on ambient music that highlights atmosphere and texture.

This mix is a 2-hour recording from a party in London last year, hosted by Unknown Species—one of Adam's favourite events in the UK and a very special night.

Conscious Listening Mix Series - 34 - The Vision Reels

A welcome return to the series for our friend Faru with an inspired hybrid mix that captures the bittersweet essence of summer's farewell.

Faru is a Berlin-based musician, designer and explorer. He is crafting Drone and Ambient music from his nature recordings from around the world. His works have been described as a natural orchestra in a dream-like manner. Exploring movements of nature, noise and harmonics. Labels include Silent Season, Faint and Carpe Sonum (FAX)

About the mix he said:
"This hybrid mix drifts through layers of sound that feel like half-remembered dreams and moments suspended between past and present. It carries a sense of nostalgia, of looking back at places and times that still echo somewhere within. The sounds paint old memories into focus, though never quite as they were. Sometimes blurred, sometimes distorted, always shaped by the way we remember them as individuals. Textures and gentle warmth intertwine, like memories fading in and out of view. It’s music for reflection, for wandering through old feelings, and for revisiting those fragments of time that never completely leave us."

With the colours of autumn coming alive and the first morning mists rolling in, we're delighted to introduce the latest Deep Breakfast mix, carefully curated by the talented Vidění.

Vidění is a project in constant search for sounds that create mental, hypnotic, deep and ambient constructions. Inspired by unconventional rhythmic structures in which light, darkness, tension, organic elements and an infinity of emotions coexist.

Deep Breakfast 329 ~ Vidění

This DJ set was presented @ Dragon Dreaming Festival 2018 in Wee Jasper, Australia, NSW. The starting time of the set was at 2.30 am - 4.30 am on the early Monday morning. Play after our dear friend Sumiruna. The night was balmy and the dance floor was in a good spirit to dance all night long and digging the sound that I was playing to them.
 I would like to pay my respects to the Ngunnawal and Wiradjuri people to let us play on their sacred land. 
A big shout out goes to the organizers of Dragon Dreaming Festival for the effort they do every year to create an amazing playground and a high standard festival and the amazing crowd that kept dancing, grooving and cheering throughout the set.

From a very young age, music has been a big part of Dymka’s life. When he was five years old he started playing an organ owned by his grandmother. He also discovered Fleetwood Mac and Eric Clapton cassettes . Impressed by his ten year older cousin he became more and more interested in electronic music. While his school friends were still listening to Metallica and Guns ‘n’Roses, Dymka was spending his time listening to Dune, Snap and 2 Brothers on the 4th Floor.  When he was introduced to Trance music he was instantly hooked! 

Just about a year later Dymka came across Fruity Loops; a demo version came included with a German computer magazine. In the years after that he got to know a wide variety of mainly electronic music. With names like Royksopp to Armin van Buuren, all sorts of Ambient and Psytrance. It wasn’t until his later years that Dymka started mixing music. Investing in a second-hand Pioneer CDJ-400 kit in January 2011, his love for mixing music continued to grow. 

While looking for great songs to mix, his interest for progressive house, techno, deephouse and minimal continued to grow. Luis Junior, 16 Bit lolitas, Noa Romana & Deersky, F-ACT, Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Henry Saiz and many more he considers to be his favourite. Occasionally he turns to Indie Dance and Nudisco.

Over the course of 2011 and 2012 Dymka started performing and did so several times in Jyväskylä Finland, Berlin and in Groningen. As of 2013 he has started producing again, as he puts it himself,  “a leopard can't change its spots”… Rhythmic beats, sensitive melodies and carefully worked up climaxes are some of the characteristic sounds that are Dymka’s tunes. 

Dymka – the name

Dymka likes to light his pipe, whether it’s before, during or after a session at the turntables. He especially likes the aromatic tobaccos, more often than not complimented with a glass of red wine or whisky. This did not go unnoticed during his time in Finland. A fellow student from the Czech Republic pointed out the fact that a pipe is called dymka in his language. The word appealed to him and shortly after he adopted it as his stage name. DJ Dymka was born.
