Abstract Division – Contemporary Spaces

Looking back on a wide array of releases, it is safe to say that 2015 has been a great year for Dynamic Reflection. So it was only natural to set the aim even higher for 2016, beginning with the long awaited return of Abstract Division to their native imprint, by the release of their first ever double EP: Contemporary Spaces. 

Always being credited as great storytellers in both their music and DJ-sets, exploring the format of a truly extended play seemed like a logical progression from Abstract Division’s work until now. Not set out to be an album, but certainly being more than just an EP, Contemporary Spaces explores the current state of techno, providing the listener with wayward and timeless pieces drawing their inspiration from the broad spectrum of electronic music. Yet, while each individual track stands in its own place and time within this spectrum, the EP as a whole compliments the diversity of past, present and future influences and styles. Contemporary Spaces is one of their most extensive and widely aimed projects to date and solely consists of original material. It is released as a limited double 12”, pressed onto lush white vinyl. A special piece of artwork with download codes giving access to the digital formats is included as a special bonus to early adopters.

Primrose
Characterized by a looped phrase of beautiful piano sounds, this track fuses skillfully constructed rhythms with a powerful low-end to create a deep sense of immersion. The repeated phrases gradually build an uplifting feeling, crafting a strong and vivid sonic world.

Kiri
A minimal groove formed by the interplay of three distinctive tom phrases leaves a lasting impression. Despite its simplicity, the track unfolds with depth, creating a unique flow on the dancefloor.

Aster
An aggressive bassline combined with percussive techno elements makes a striking impact. Toward the end, FM sounds intertwine with a wavering main synth line, producing an unparalleled sense of exhilaration. This energetic track shines with its creative and distinctive approach.

A luxurious remix by Jack Fresia, of Amsterdam’s.While retaining the original’s aggressive elements, the remix incorporates unique short breaks and a highly danceable drum track, directly striking the dancefloor and delivering an overwhelming sense of immersion.

Antarctic
Included as a bonus track, Antarctic is an alternate version of Northpole, featuring a danceable yet catchy melody. Its hypnotic phrases and deeply immersive soundscape evoke a desolate world reminiscent of the extreme natural environment of the Antaric.

The B-side starts with Unfair, a peak-time weapon crafted to tear the floor apart, then moves into Calx, a trippy and mental journey deep into hypnotic territory. The release closes with Snakeholes, where nostalgia and power meet in a distinctive blend.
