There's less wildlife activity in cloud forests than in the rainforests but the sounds you might come across can be pretty unique.

Located on the top of a hill above the river so you can hear some distant pink noise. It was 6:00 morning time after spending the night camping deep inside the cloud forest of Cueva de Los Guacharos national park.

This was the night ambience being kilometers away, over the mountains from the nearest rural settlement.

Cueva de Los Guácharos is a 90 km2 protected area of dense preserved forests and thick vegetation. It's the last mountain before the Amazon basin. The highest peak reaches 2621m. Only a tiny bit of a park can be accessed by trails but the majority is entirely inaccessible. There are areas and surely caves that are undiscovered. The 90 km2 size does not seem so much but thick vegetation with steep slopes, avalanches makes this place very difficult to access.

Morning in the Colombian Cloud Forest

5 AM, still in the darkness of mid-March morning, a pair of tawny owls starts vocalising at their would-be nesting grounds. They are probably still in courting phase. Female was desperately calling all through previous evening and male repeatedly approached. In the morning, first thing they did was passionately-sounding lovemaking...  At least that is my interpretation of the audio  recording.

Jan is a sound recordist and expedition leader with 8+ years of experience who travels to some of the world's most wild and endangered natural habitats to document their sounds. His work involves conducting extensive fieldwork, carefully listening to recordings, and compiling audio libraries. While he enjoys adrenaline-fueled activities, he also values slowing down in nature and practicing mindfulness. He follows a path in which the practice of recording sounds develops a deep connection with oneself and the natural world, embracing the wonders of life in the present moment. In 2018, he created Earth Experience, a platform dedicated to sharing the natural soundscapes of our planet with a wider audience across the world. His idea is to give people the opportunity to listen to the beauty and diversity of nature and to inspire a deeper appreciation for our incredible yet endangered natural world.

Over the years, he has visited some of the most remote locations, from the Colombian Amazon Rainforest, the Colombian Pacific, the Andaman Islands, Borneo, the Andes Mountains, and European primeval forests to the Indian Himalayas, successfully capturing the acoustics of these habitats with detailed metadata.

With the numerous field activities, he has gained extensive first-hand experience in planning and performing all the technical aspects that are needed for a successful expedition doing fieldwork in remote and demanding environments. Staying for many weeks out in challenging or dangerous field conditions and performing sound documentation is, by now, well familiar to him.
