James Hayford's ‘Paper Cuts Mixtape’ is a chopped up, and fuzzed out, beats-meets-psych-dub journey, made up of eleven tracks as one twenty-five minute mix, tied together with interstitial noise and recurrent sampled themes. James has explored this type of extended mixed album for the Numero Group label with his acclaimed ‘Eccentric Breaks and Beats’ album, and his blended edit suite ‘Slow Soul Flow’.

The tracks featured in ‘Paper Cuts’ started back in 2007, while James was completing the classic releases ‘Resoled’ Volumes 1 & 2 (Plimsoll Records) under his Shoes alias.
These compositions began as a series of rough chopped samples mixed with influences from the album ‘Donuts’ by J Dilla, and the dub explorations of Scientist. These musical sketches were made quickly, rough, and left with all clicks and messy swing of the moment.

Inspired to find more spontaneous influence through collaboration, he gave the songs to his long-time Shoes collaborator, Joe Andrew.
Joe channeled his college influences of space and psych rock from bands like The Flaming Lips and Spiritualized.
While sitting on the floor of his apartment with a guitar, microphone, effect pedals, and a four track tape recorder, Joe creates layers of hypnotic melodies and noisy harmony that perfectly go with this collection.

Over the course of the pandemic isolation, James revisited the ‘Paper Cuts’ compositions by remixing, rearranging, and fusing more samples and clamorous sonic themes that turned these ideas into a unique, trippy, and addictive mix.

The mixtape is complimented by the original photographic artwork of Caural, who said about the album - “I've listened to this thing like 6 times. I can not stop!”

Well, Bunuel.'s latest EP 'Somewhere Between A Groove And A Dream', released August 2021, contained the uber-earworm 'We All Win (When We All Love)' which struts along as P-Funk rhythm elements intertwine with ethereal sythns and a Daft Punk-ish vocoder vocal. We commissioned 3 remixes of the tune to showcase its versatility as a dancefloor burner.
James Hayford of the popular Shoes edits, strikes the perfect balance of ethereal and grit with his big breaks version. By displacing the time of the original vocal he has created an entirely new outlook on the track.
Positivity reigns on 'We All Win (When We All Love) : REMIXED' with each track imbued with the full multicolored spectrum of light. This package is sure to get feet moving and butts on the dancefloor in praise of love.
James Hayford is a sample based producer who lives and makes music in Dayton, Ohio. He is known for being behind the game changing Shoes edits, and making cross genre electronic dance and downtempo music on Filtered Deluxe Recordings with elements of house, funk, broken beat, afro-latin, and ambient electronics.

The legendary SHOES edits crew returns to dance-floors, living rooms and lounges with four new edits in a range of tempos and styles. "BE HAPPY" in classic Shoes style references both sample sources of MARY J BLIGE and CURTIS MAYFIELD and the many tracks that have sampled her vocals, resulting in a filtered midtempo breaks laden disco affair. "THE CEDDO JINGO THEME" mashes together afro-beat from MANU DIBANGO and 90's techno references with CARL CRAIG's classic remix of HOT LIZARD. The B-side kicks off with a hip hop beat laced edit of TAJ MAHAL's reggae soul track "MUSIC KEEPS ME TOGETHER". A message we all need right about now. FInally, roundingout the EP SHOES brings the baby making soul vibes with "HEY GIRL" an edit of KEM's sexy soul, adding downbeat chug. (SHOES RECORDS)

James Hayford makes music under a variety of names: chunky, funky edits as a part of the Shoes Crew, dark and heavy ethnic beats with Broken Compass and also runs the edits/remix label Plimsoll Records, and does remixes and other work as Earwig. 
The Earwig solo palette includes elements of afro-latin, dub, and techy future vibes. Recent remixes for Tal M. Klein "House on the Left" and the Automats "Pass Me By" showcase this sound.
