Locked away in sonic solitude, Mind Vortex have been building these next four cuts with absolute precision. And being such a pivotal signing for the RAM imprint, it’s no surprise that this EP has been met with almost unbearable anticipation.

Few acts capture the vibrancy and pent-up energy that Mind Vortex commands. Another charged assault on the ears, the ‘Colours EP’ is definitely a return to form. An impressive feat, having already set the bar high with tracks like ‘Hotbox’ being showcased on label head Andy C’s revered Nightlife series.

With an authoritative vocal sample leading you ear-drums first into the mix, ‘Underworld’ is foreboding from its first bass riff. A jittering coaster ride, this is roller explodes on impact, taking you deep into its namesake. The artists manipulate synth in a way which often can’t be matched, distorting sounds and smashing the prototype to pieces with carefully fashioned hits of drum. 

One of their biggest releases to date, expect this EP to resound in both underground dancehalls and the headphones of dnb-heads everywhere. These four blasting production behemoths will ensure that Mind Vortex stay on the agenda’s forefront.

When Technique Recordings bosses Drumsound & Bassline Smith come with a fresh release, they've got some big expectations to fulfil. True heads will know that their roots were firmly planted back in the old skool of nineties rave culture. And, this millennium, they've built and sustained a reputation as architects of the big room style that's seen drum and bass explode in popularity. So, how are they going to live up to that this time?

Well, “The Truth” promises great things from the outset. A panoramic landscape is laid out before us, with dunes of unforgiving percussive sounds overcast by clouds of minor key tonalities and dark-child dialogue. It's the quiet before the riot, punctured by an alarm call signal flare which sparks things into life. Then the drop delivers a straight-up punch-up between bass and treble, as call and response patterns merge and collide to create an unrelenting groove. This is the EDM paradigm delivered with a junglist mentality and rarely-seen layers of subtlety to satisfy the listener as well as the raver.

“Outlaw Renegade” teleports us straight to the wild west on some distant technologically-advanced planet. The intro lays out a scene of the deserted main street where building percussion and feedback sweeps are the harbingers of the gangsta vibes about to ride through. The drop is constructed around road-hard drums, which provide a rock-solid foundation for the bassline to go to work. And that low-end drives through with sub-shattering force, creating a wave to overdose even the most hardcore bass-addict.

We all know that Drumsound & Bassline Smith deliver nothing but big tunes. The two tracks on this release serve as a reminder that underpinning that floor-filling, rave-filling, arena-filing reputation, are some seriously impressive musical and technical skills. These pieces are cinematic in ambition and attention to detail and that means they're going to be drawn for time and time again by knowledgable DJs across the globe.

They had watched silently and stealthily from the cold vacuum of space, processing the activity of the civilization on the planet designated by the prime species as ‘Earth’. Monitoring the frequencies below and this culture’s increasingly advanced, but still infant communication technologies. The enforcers of galactic order - observing and calculating the potential for breaching the rift at that critical moment of social and technological advancement at which so many races had fallen. These primes were culturally schizophrenic, with much of the race confusing universal anomalies for the supernatural whilst the elite reached ever deeper towards a true understanding of the mysteries that would unlock access to the depths of the galaxy. The exploration of volatile sonic forces both powerful and dangerous, with the potential to turn simple civilizations into dangerous swarms with the capacity to disrupt the galactic harmony. Cosmic law had been established to prevent the untold destruction these errant and infectious signals had caused in the past, to coldly, brutally and entirely annihilate those who dared to handle powers beyond their means of control. That moment had come… they were on the verge and it was not to be allowed. Drop-pods ascended from the Underverse into real time planet-wide, falling from the skies in vast numbers, crushing everything in their path, full of their deadly, precise and unstoppable cargo. The podbay doors opened, spilling the civilizational surgeons onto the planet surface, commencing their operation of maximum DAMAGE…
