This playlist more or less compiles my FM synth music into one handy playlist in a semi-chronological order. This way, if you want to listen to my FM/Genesis music, you can browse quickly through this list instead of navigating my profile (I still totally recommend you do that though! ;] ). I have been meaning to do this for a while; I hope you enjoy! You can even listen to how I got better at this stuff over the years.

This doesn't have *every* FM chiptune on here - A few others I am saving for their own playlists. This is mostly for soundtracks. I have included one or two tracks just for a sense of where they "fit it."

Shenhua R-Type (Shenmue)

This is the remix of the Shining Force Boss Theme. Yes, I know that there are multiple boss themes but this happens to be one of my favorites in this game. For those who don't know what this game is, Shining Force was an epic SRPG for the Sega Genesis. I guess you could compare it to the Fire Emblem series that was for the game boy advance. Anyhoo, I made this remix around 2007 and decided that it was time for it to hit SoundCloud. I would appreciate feedback and I hope that you guys will enjoy it! I tried to keep the original sound while adding my own thing to it.


Shining Force- The Worthy Rival (Battle of Kain/Mishaela/Rindo Circus)

My contribution to DJ Mokram's up-and-coming Dynamite Headdy tribute album, Secret Bonus Point. It is a remix of the Tower of Puppet song. Dynamite Headdy has probably one of the best Genesis soundtracks, no lie.
I decided, after failing in my first attempt at a jazzy rendition, to take a more relaxed, and ambient approach, despite how frantic the level itself is. I used cool tones, and to compliment that I added in a warm saxophone (thanks to finding one of the best Saxophone VSTs ever); however, I think the bamboo percussion carries the piece.

EDIT: In the album, this will be titled "Towering Bliss" for space considerations. Ha ha.

Part of my original soundtrack created for the video-game project WindMiles, created by ChozoChild. 

The final battle! After the player's arduous quest through the pollution-infested level, he or she squares off against the bad dude responsible, the Pirate King! I tried to flex my creative muscle this piece, being very inspired by the off-kilter goodness of Hisayoshi Ogurashi and ZUNTATA (though obviously not as good as those guys).

A short one this time. I might aim to try and make these things more frequently but shorter. Perhaps a weekly remix with suggestions from people on the channel. It's a little bit short but the source material is kind of limiting. I'm not a massive fan of the original game but the tune is kinda catchy.

Mark’s collab with Clare Stagg ‘How Can I’ was our 2nd release on Outburst back in August 2014 and with only one mix of it being released so far, we felt that it was time to re-boot the project for 2015 and give you some alternative vibes to play (and hear) out in the clubs! Armada favourites Solis & Sean Truby deliver a slightly slower but real power-house of a remix, that has a totally different approach to the Original Mix with new chords, new lead riff and a great overall huge sound. Fellow Scotsman Nick Callaghan also delivers his interpretation, which is in a true ‘tech-trance’ sound that is heavily influenced by some of the much loved classic Tiesto and E-Craig productions from yester-year. There is definitely a mix for you here so make sure and check them both out!

A remix of the Title Theme by Ryohji Yoshitomi from Metroid II: The Return of Samus for the gameboy, released in 1991. 

This remix was written in 2012 and included in the fan-album "Metroid: Harmony of the Hunter 101%", featuring remixes from dozens of contributors.

[Harmony of the Hunter 101%] The Lady Returns ~ [Title Theme - Metroid II: The Return of Samus]

Commissioned by user @Falkalore. The parameters of the project were thus: 
1) a piece that takes its inspiration from the soundtrack of Shining Force: The Legacy of Great Intention, particularly incorporating the motifs of the main theme by Masahiko Yoshimura
2) a piece that utilized the soundchips found in the Sega Genesis/MegaDrive, keeping true to the original works' limitations
3) a piece that, more than a mere "remix" takes inspiration but also goes beyond in telling its own story

Following these stipulations, this work tells a story in four parts:

Act 1: Gathering Storm ~ The March of Darkness
Act 2: The Arrival of the Shining Force, and the Raucous Joining of Battle, A Brief Reflection at What is At Stake
Act 3: The Enemy Regroups: A Desperate Counterattack
Act 4: The Shining Force Holds Firm, a Decisive Victory, Hope for the Future

The piece imagines a a scenario in which Max and his Company are called forth again to save the land of Rune (and the world) from the forces of darkness, who have risen again. A battle ensues, signalling the beginning of another epic tale of the Shining Force!

Above all, this piece of music has as its origin the dedication and confidence of Falkalore, who reached out to me to commission me to write a piece in the style of Shining Force. Being a fan of the games and eager to write a more orchestral-sounding piece, I eagerly agreed. He can take the most credit for getting my mind to push forward what I could personally do with FM instrumentation and arrangement. 

Secondly, this commission stands at a milestone for my profile, surpassing 25,000 plays from my tracks. Over the course of seven (!!!) years, it's been incredible to see my audience grow into the thousands from anonymous listeners, friends, dedicated followers, and more. The reason I write music is because of your support, vocalized or otherwise. I am truly thankful for all the feedback, compliments, and critiques I have received over the years, and am always striving to improve for both your and my sake, whether with FM synth chiptunes or with more conventional music.

Now I say "remix", because there was no way I could feasibly do a 1:1 cover of a nearly hour-long prog epic, and this song is incredibly difficult to follow as it is written in all manner of uncommon time-signatures. I luckily found some decent sheet music to help me create the cover and figure out the rhythm. All the work was done inputting the notes by hand - no MIDIs here!

Manuel Rocca closed a great 2012 with his first vocal collaboration, 'Heat of Love', for which the talented Charmy provided her voice. Now a diverse range of artists got their hands on this successful single to deliver a very interesting remixes package, featuring a breathtaking modern uplifter with a perfectly detailed groove and magical use of the vocals for a deeper perception of the original idea that also exploits its euphoric potential to gigantic proportions, all of this crafted by the hands of the incredible duo C-Systems.

Another intriguing uplifting vision comes served by Mark van Buuren, who rounds up a more fast paced feeling that keeps building lots of energy, just to let it out between many teases and inside a dark atmosphere that oozes a classic trance touch all over it.

Slovakian rising artist Miroslav Vrlik's remix goes towards the more progressive and clubby side of the track, dropping an irresistible chunky bassline and playful percs combo, while flawlessly sliding the melodic synths in between mellow vocal cuts, as it leads the path to its exceptionally driving climatic part aptly embraced by warm pads to keep that 'Heat of Love' burning bright.
