http://www.democracynow.org - New research shows many so-called experts who appeared on television making the case for U.S. strikes on Syria had undisclosed ties to military contractors. A new report by the Public Accountability Initiative identifies 22 commentators with industry ties. While they appeared on television or were quoted as experts 111 times, their links to military firms were disclosed only 13 of those times. The report focuses largely on Stephen Hadley who served as National Security Advisor to President George W. Bush. During the debate on Syria, he appeared on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, and Bloomberg TV. None of these stations informed viewers that Hadley currently serves as a director of the weapons manufacturer Raytheon that makes Tomahawk cruise missiles widely touted as the weapon of choice for bombing Syria. He also owns over 11,000 shares of Raytheon stock, which traded at all-time highs during the Syria debate. We speak to Kevin Connor of the Public Accountability Initiative, a co-author of the report.

On the streets of early 20th Century America, nothing moved faster than 10 miles per hour. Responsible parents would tell their children, “Go outside, and play in the streets. All day.”

And then the automobile happened. And then automobiles began killing thousands of children, every year.

Many viewed the car as a death machine. One newspaper cartoon even compared the car to Moloch, the god to whom the Ammonites supposedly sacrificed their children.

At first, pedestrian deaths were considered public tragedies. Parades were held in dozens of cities to commemorate the dead children. Cities built monuments. Mothers of children killed in the streets are given a special White Star to honor their loss.

The main cause for these deaths was that the rules of the street were vastly different than they are today. A street functioned like a city park, or a pedestrian mall, where you could move in any direction without really thinking about it. The only moving hazards were animals and other people.  

But automotive interests wanted to claim the streets for cars. 
So they put forth a radical idea--cars weren't to blame, it was human recklessness. They found that they could exonerate the machine by placing the blame on individuals. 

They also coined a new term: "Jaywalking."

Federal police employ 120,000 full-time officers, plus undercovers, part-timers, informants, and officers who do not arrest directly. They don't give a fuck about the law. Traitors.

There are 18,000 state and local law enforcement agencies, with more than 1 million full-time officers and 100,000 part-time employees, plus undercovers and informants. The are 90,000 local governments in America. From 2004 to 2008, full-time employment by state and local law enforcement agencies increased by 57,000.  Sworn personnel increased by 33,000. Nonsworn personnel by 24,000. In 1992 to 2008, the growth rate for civilian personnel was double that of sworn personnel. Tyrants all.

450,000 people die every day and nobody mentions it.
