This was one of only 2 accapellas I could find by Eyedea & Abilities. It's very old and probably the lowest quality of any accapella I used, but I really wanted to include one of their songs. Eyedea is my all time favorite emcee but unfortunately he died in late 2010. The accapella not only contained scratching from the amazing DJ Abilities but for some reason also had hi hats still in it, so I just went with it and didn't use hi hats.

Ecid is a kamikaze visionary: an artist with an all or nothing approach to every aspect of his art and life. Ambitious almost to a fault with an “us against them” DIY mentality, Ecid has self-booked, self released, and self-made his own movement. Ecid doesn’t try to sell you on any one way of life, he only sells you on the idea that you can live however you want. A Minneapolis native and a participant in the Twin Cities hip hop scene since 2003, all three of Ecid’s most recent releases have charted on the College Music Journal’s Hip Hop Top 40 chart. Collaborating with the likes of Eyedea, Awol One, and Kristoff Krane along the way, his smashing new album, Werewolf Hologram, is destined to make even bigger waves.
Ecid pushes the limits of sampling, it’s not so much what he samples, it’s what he does with every note. Pitch shifting and chopping every sample to the point of no return, slapping together psych-rock vocal chops with 808 booms and hand claps, then adding more layers of drum breaks, and echo heavy guitars. Inspired by the duality in humanity, Werewolf Hologram tackles heavy thought provoking topics that really dig into your head. The hooks explode: layer upon layer of melodies evoking color and nostalgia. Ecid brings you into a new world, his world. With a knack for slap stick, smarty pants, one liners that make us smile while shaking our heads in disbelief. This song was written and recorded in 2001 for the Sage Francis "Sick of Waging War" mix CD. It features Eyedea and Slug on vocals. Not only was this beat produced by Eyedea, but it was also recorded and mixed in his home studio. We lost Micheal "Eyedea" Larsen in October 2010. While on tour in Ontario, Canada in January 2013 I was lucky enough to have time to record a song with Baracuda originally of Guelph Ontario's "Plague Language" family of artists.  Cuda & I originally recorded our verses in London Ontario at Richard Catesh's apartment over a beat that was grabbed online which featured a (pretty heartfelt) Reggae singer doing the chorus.  I had been trying hard to get one of my rap idols NGAFSH of CVE (Goodlife/Project Blowed) on this album and after recording this song and reading some of FSH's online rants about hard work - I KNEW he would feel this one.  The only problem we had was that the beat had already been used by countless others online who had already made youtube music videos etc. Like a champion, my long time friend & bandmate Max Heath of Child Actor completely re-made the beat, I recorded a new chorus, Natalie sang some ad-libs and the Work Song was created!

 At first glance most would think a skinny, blue-eyed hipster looking dude in a flannel with obnoxious Nike’s to match, would be in a post-electro indie-band. But this is the 90’s for the third time and one of rap’s most exciting new voices, ECID, is not your average newsstand heartthrob. Minneapolis native Jason Mckenzie, an only child raised by a single-mom, had a lot of time to himself growing up. But he was never bored. Ever. He started writing songs at age 13, released his first “album” before his 18th birthday and hasn’t stopped since. Released earlier this year, Post Euphoria volume 1 brought Ecid’s true charm to the surface with sexier beats and punchlines on steroids (and kush).

 Amidst the chaos of artistic evolution, Post Euphoria 2 exploits the best parts of Volume 1 while preparing us for the upcoming full-length Pheromone Heavy. After spending the first half of the year training to be a yoga instructor Ecid bought a MOOG, stopped quantizing and found a way to make songs with a more human approach. Minimalistic drums and urgent melodies give his percussive vocals and no-fuck’s-given personality room to breathe. “Communication Abuse”, a snarky response to society’s infatuation with their phones and themselves, continues ECID’s agenda to challenge the “pack” mentality. ECID lives and dies by the dream and Post Euphoria 2 is what happens when you finally catch that elusive carrot.
