Cabezas’ new EP “Raya” is a distillation of the conversations that have shaped him over the last decade. From the Danceteria-ready sheen of “Madonna” to the nocturnal-italo pulse of “Sergio”, Cabezas covers a wide swath of sonic ground, starting in almost-familiar places and spiraling out into the unknown. 

This is Cabezas’ second EP, following up his 2018 Börft Records release Mi Calle. 

Born in Chile and living in Sweden, Patricio Cabezas is a multi-talented musician/producer. After years as a touring bass player, he re-com- mitted himself to electronic music, trading his pickups for a circuit board in search of the boundaries of sound. 

Since childhood Cabezas has thrown himself into the in-between. With a life of hybrid timezones, cultures and identities, his approach to music is similarly liminal. Driven by discovery and experimentation, Cabezas hybridizes genres, themes and instrumentation to create electronic music that lives on the edge, built for the mains, headphones and everywhere in between.

Delayed piano stabs tease us in with encircling robotic, tropical soundscapes before a playful electro beat pounds in our eardrums. Layered percussion and woozing pads leave us longing to know where the track will take us before a wave of 80s stranger synths envelop the song, zapping us straight to a dimension of yesteryear's future.

The full 3-track EP by Jauge titled ‘MBE005’ is scheduled to be released on the 25th of March 2021 by the Vietnam based record label; Magic Box Engine.

The second Premiere we feature today is again taken from the debut compilation from BS Radio; the Milan based party collective Burro Studio. Expertly curated by eclectic DJ's External Love; the compilation consists of eleven tracks hand-picked to reflect the spirit of warm summer nights by the sea. Man of the moment Fitzzgerald turns out his trademark downtempo balearic boogie groove on his 'Higer Res' track. Moog bass stabs and lazy drums shuffle under soft keys and shifting apreggios while mellow pads melt away across the sparkling sea. It's the perfect track to accompany a strong cocktail as a deep orange sun slips down behind the distant horizon.

Hell Yeah llama a su alegre equipo de creadores de groove adulto,  para volver a revisar las pistas clave del aclamado álbum Passages de Quiroga, con Whodamanny, Jazz N Palms, A Vision of Panorama y My Friend Dario, toda una junta de artistas que solo destilan clase allá donde crean un remix.

El álbum original fue calificado como el Mejor Álbum Balear de Piccadilly Records de 2019 y un año después nos sigue brindando consuelo en estos tiempos extraños. El primero en agregar su propio toque es el asociado Whodamanny de Nápoles, cuya versión mágica de 'Martinica Feelings' llegó a la excelente compilación reciente de Buena Onda, que ya está disponible. Es una reinterpretación vocal de gran corazón llena de beats infecciosos y sintetizadores retorcidos que traen el funk junto a efectos de ciencia ficción fulminantes y  unos acordes de piano para derretir la pista en felicidad.

Después le sigue uno de los hombres del momento Jazz N Palms, residente en el local de culto de Ibiza Pikes y habitual en el Ronnie Scotts de Londres. Recientemente ha comenzado su propio sello homónimo y aquí ofrece una loca versión de jazz latino de 'Africa Addio' que rebosa energía y sol. La percusión ocupada te hará mover el culo y todo tiene un ambiente sexy de los 70.

La leyenda balear de San Petersburgo, A Vision of Panorama, es aclamada como la reina del sonido balear moderno gracias a los EP de sellos como Omena. Él se ocupa de 'The Zoist' con melodías sentimentales y ritmos de puesta de sol para morirse. 

Por último, el descubrimiento de Hell Yeah, My Friend Dario (que pronto tendrá un EP en NuNOrthernSoul, recientemente remezclado Calm and Gallo) aborda 'Chiaia Sunset'. El resultado es una pista relajada y catártica que se despliega lentamente con tambores que caen y golpes de madera mientras los sintetizadores dejan estelas de vapor en lo alto del cielo azul.

Estos son otros cuatro remixes de clase alta que mantendrán vivas las vibraciones del verano hasta bien entrado el otoño.

PREMIERE: Quiroga  Martinica Feelings (Whodamanny Reinterpretation) [Hell Yeah]

As the world and its wife tries to board the last plane out of 2020, Eclectics rolls up with a charter flight big enough to ferry all-comers to Shangri-La. The Oh! EP, from Ibiza-based Italian producer Luca Averna and legendary British veteran Chris Coco, is 35 minutes of delightful, deep-dive distraction from a world gone mad.

This isn’t simply a collection of tunes sitting cheek-by-jowl with their remixes, this is a soaring suite – a movement in five parts put together with care, confidence and consummate craft.

First up on the in-flight entertainment is “There Is No Planet B”. Despite the distress-signal sentiment of the title, it’s an audio hug of breathy synths, languorous lead lines and slow, whirling propeller percussion. A mid-paced reminder that we really are all in this together, the melodic flow coalesces midway through, giving directions to the dance.

The Veteran Delinquents (Joe’s Bakery and Passport to Paradise stalwart Craig Christon along with producer Tim Hutton) pick up the baton and increase the momentum like veteran DJs reading the room. Their remix follows on seamlessly from the original, bigging up the boogie with handclaps, piano and a beat that channels electro and new wave New York.

Next up is Jazxing (The Very Polish Cut-Outs/ Transatlantyk), who find another gear and chug straight ahead – full steam in widescreen. Increasing the bandwidth even further they throw in guitar licks and percussive punctuation, forcing the familiar melody into bold new territory.

And suddenly, there you are, in the middle of a four-to-the-floor groove for discerning dancers after a journey so smooth you couldn’t even feel the corners.

As the bass peters out, title track “Oh!” blossoms into view, building slowly, layers lapping over each other, gentle yet steady, fragile but with a firm foothold. The pace has quickened, but the pin-perfect pacing means you don’t realise until you’re halfway in and committed to the ride. Oh! indeed…

Then, the final act. Once again, Eclectics frequent flier James Bright tales the controls and banks away beautifully from the original, leading you into territory littered with broken beats, rippling synths and an afro-infused groove. This is all played out against a gentle backdrop, a watercolour wash of sound that smooths the flightpath, tempers the turbulence and joins the dots between guitar flourishes and snare snaps.   You have reached your destination. Enjoy.
